Restaurante Jumbo is a Peruvian Restaurant for locals, but enjoyable by everyone. It is located near the airport so I would say it is a great choice if you have an overnight layover and are staying nearby. Note they open for dinner at 8:30 PM.
My wife and I chose Jumbo to add some variety to our week long consumption of Spanish food. Peruvian food was perfect as it has latin roots but with a completely different flavor profile.
The restaurant is someone typical of all the local places with tables inside and outside and open doors between the two. The interior seemed newish with very good lighting and a specific decor. They have nice bathrooms and also a very unique feature ... a phone charging area.
We arrived at 8:15 and enjoyed a beer and the gratis potato chips and fried corn until the kitchen opened at 8:30. My wife ordered chicken fried rice and I ordered a Chicken stir fry with vegetables. Both dishes were pan fired in a wok. I could see the flames flare up in the kitchen with each dish, and this added a nice char flavor to the food. For my stir fry, the tomatoes were the best I've had all week in Spain.
To close out the meal we both had coffees, which is always Espresso in Spain. We love the Cafe's and importantly they grind and prepare the espressos by hand versus using the automatic machines in most places. Nice touch.
Our waitress was very nice and attentive. We didn't speak Spanish and she only spoke minimal English, yet we made it work smoothly together.
I forget to take a picture of the menu, but they generally had rice and non rice dishes based on char grilled chicken, steak, octopus, and a unique one I've never seen before...cow heart. I didn't have it but I saw many people ordering lots of the different dishes. When we arrived the place was empty. By the time we left at 9:45 it was mostly full.
I hope you give it a try and enjoy this unique experience. read more
