We had a lovely meal at Dom Joao. It is away from the main tourist area. The room is very nicely decorated and it has a nice welcoming feel.
It is a family restaurant. The service was very good. We ordered a bottle of wine to enjoy while we looked over the menu. I asked about a couple of items on the menu but the server suggested that I order another dish. If they do not have the fresh ingredients to make a dish they will not serve it. We started off with garlic shrimp. We asked to have the head removed. The server said it was better with the heads attached but we do not enjoy the taste of the shrimp with the head attached. For entrees my husband had the sea bass and I had swordfish. Both the dishes were well prepared and very good. We finished off our meal with a nice apple pie. Our server was multi lingual and conversed fluently with different tables in their language. When we asked him how many languages he spoke he said that he was fluent in 6 different languages. A great skill that is a great asset for his job. He was absolutely charming and he took such good care of us during the evening. We were offered a complimentary port at the end of our meal. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and the nice ambiance.
It was a great evening but unfortunately it was our last night in the Algarve. We will return on future visits to the Algarve read more
