The service was amazing, the ambiance was incredible and the food was second to none!! I had ordered the mussels as a starter. They were so delicious, I easily could have eaten just them with some bread!! Yum!! I ended up ordering the fish for dinner and I was more than pleased with my meal!! The fish was light and tasty without being overly cooked. Also, we ordered a dessert for the table, which ended up being one of the best "cheesecakes" I've ever tasted!! It was sweet and creamy and just about melted in my mouth! What a fantastic dining experience on our first night of vacation in Copenhagen!! While we ate at numerous venues, some of which were also great, unfortunately, none quite lived up to our meal at Restaurant Zeleste!! read more

This is probably your best bet if you are dinning in the Nyhavn area. It is one street away from the canal that offers a beautiful and tranquil outdoor seating without the hustle and bustle. While the lunch we had was delicious, the service was a bit slow and the price was also on the high end. I tried the fish burger and it was absolutely delicious. The fish was fried but you can definitely taste the freshness of it. My friend got the steak sandwich and it was very tender and juicy! Pair it with a beer or wine and you got yourself a great lunch there! read more

So you'll never find a great deal in Nyhavn, which is tourist central in Copenhagen, but if you turn the corner onto Store Strandstraede, you can find Restaurant Zeleste, which is as charming a bistro as you can find in these parts. And crowded. I don't know the Danish word for "Oy!" but... Oy! Was it crowded with a mix of tourists and extended families from what I could tell. I was lucky to get a table for one in the large cobblestone patio in the back. Unfortunately, it was leaning quite a bit because of the uneven floor, so I kept worrying my wine glass was going to slide off. Anyway, it was tough getting the attention of the waitress once I got seated since I didn't represent a big tip. Flailing my arms reflected a sad act of desperation. Fortunately the ambiance of the tented interior courtyard and the food itself helped make up for the hectic evening the staff was having that evening. I started with a bowl of their Jerusalem Artichoke Soup (95 DKK = $16.84), which was a nice creamy blend of artichokes and pumpkin that warmed my palate (see photo). The entree was the Grilled Entrecote (192 DKK = $34), a nice slab of beefsteak, nicely grilled and accompanied by a hefty wedge of pommes Anna, heavily buttered, a cauliflower puree, and wild mushrooms (see photo). It was a hearty portion which definitely satisfied my appetite. The interior maintains the charm of its 17th-century origins with private dining nooks, but a fifty-dollar tab for one is a bit steep for this penny-wise tourist. FOOD - 3.5 stars...superior bistro fare, but the prices appear targeted to the more monied tourists AMBIANCE - 4.5 stars...wears its centuries-old history well SERVICE - 2.5 stars...on the passive side for this solitary diner TOTAL - 3 stars...if you need to dine in Nyhavn, this doesn't strike me as a bad option read more

As you have probably read from the other reviews, the biggest pitfalls of this restaurant comes from its prices. Now, if the food were above and beyond then this wouldn't be necessarily notable, as you would be getting your money's worth. However that wasn't the case here. Don't get me wrong, the food was great, but it wasn't unlike anything I've ever had before. What makes this restaurant so enjoyable is the ambiance. The walls are beautifully decorated, the waitstaff is attentive without being overbearing, and although it's near Nyhavn (maybe why prices are higher?), it's far enough away that your meal isn't interrupted by noises outside. read more

love this lovely place In the winter and raining day, after a whole day transportation, and a happy shopping, we found this small place for dinner. It is modern and homelike. The service is really friendly. We choose the tasting menu , every dish is full of the chef's sincerity. The main course is a traditional danish food, the duck breast, very tasty and home flavor. While my husband was watching our son as he took a nap, I was tasked with finding a restaurant for that evening's meal after shopping at Magasin. I said I couldn't promise much since we were staying in Nyhavn, which is tourist central. I spotted Zeleste's cozy location (in one of the oldest buildings in Copenhagen - a former blacksmith's shop), just off Nyhavn, after a bit of looking. I went inside and inquired about making a reservation. They were very accommodating and we were set for an early evening meal. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly - the manager and server (Sophie) were very attentive and willing to help us with our toddler and his stroller. The ambience was intimate, cozy, and inviting. The food was wonderful. I ordered pumpkin soup with pomegranate seeds and fried duck, which was savory and warming - with notes of cumin and coriander. The fried duck and pomegranate seeds provided a nice textural contrast to the velvety soup. After tasting it, my husband ordered his own soup as well. For mains, I ordered the bavette, served atop a head of butter-fried romaine, with pickles, potatoes, and red-wine sauce. The meat was tender and flavorful. The fried romaine was a revelation - buttery, slightly charred, with a hint of sweetness. The pickles served as the perfect compliment to the rich beef. My husband had the 1/2 lobster, which was perfectly cooked. The outdoor fireplace and patio (what was the forge) provided a nice view from inside and warmth when stepping out. The staff was extremely hospitable and generous to our toddler son - they made us feel welcome and cared for. We will certainly be back. read more

I have been here a few times, and I have to say the best thing about this place is their very charming outdoor courtyard with fireplace in the middle of the restaurant. Inside they have all these different cozy, intimate rooms. The location is amazing, and the atmosphere is so hyggelig. Their brunch is fantastic, but heir dinner is just ok. One time I brought a friend, and he said their burger was the best he had had in his whole life, so that's a big compliment. Downside is that, because it's Nyhavn, it's pricey, but I only think it's worth to pay for this place because of the atmosphere and their courtyard. It really is special. read more

We came here on New Years Eve and had the set menu. We were warmly welcomed and our server was the lovely Emilie My. The ambience was festive and the staff had taken care to dress the tables so they looked really special. The food was outstanding and every one of the seven courses was delicious. The standout dishes for me were the 1/2 lobster and cheese course. The wine pairings were also excellent, although the first white wine was a bit light on taste and body. I would have given 5 stars but for the wine and that we were not given any bread (not that I'd have had room for it). It's a bit on the pricey side but worth it for a special occasion or treat. Zeleste is my favorite brunch haunt, hands-down. The food is really lovely and the cozy ambiance always makes for a warm visit. I also believe that they do a nice job greeting customers when they enter the restaurant. At times, I've noticed that the service from the wait-staff can be a little spotty. When it's busy, and there are only 2 people servicing the whole establishment, you can wait a very long time to get something as simple as water. I forgive them -- but they would earn 4 or 5 stars if they had slightly more attentive service. But for Copenhagen, I think I'd consider this place pretty good, service-wise, as they don't roll their eyes at you or assault you with attitude, which sadly is the norm in CPH. Give Zeleste's weekend brunch a taste! read more
