Listen, I don't know what those crazy Danes put in those sea buckthorn mojitos, but my God, a few sips from one of those things seemed to induce the craziest, most long-lasting case of supercharged speed giggled that my friend and I have ever had. I still call it 'the magic mojito,' and in case you were wondering, we were NOT drunk, not even buzzed.
It was a sunny Sunday in late May when my friend and I took the train from Copenhagen out to Roskilde to visit the Vikingmuseet (missed the chance to go out on the fjord - boo!) and, being in the mood for a proper sit down meal, we chose Snekken over the other options around the museum.
The ordering and seating method was weird - pick a table, then go up and order and give them your table number, but no numbers on the tables? huh? Maybe we missed something - but in any case, my girl knew i was feeling snarky, so she had this magical sea buckthorn mojito sent out to me, along with a seafood plate for her (including Denmark's tiniest lobster, see photo) and a 'burger' for me.
Somehow we ended up talking about an old catchphrase from our collective group of friends back in the day and dissolved into a fit of unstoppable giggles - I am sure our table's neighbors thought we were drunk or crazy, but they were also amused and/or indulgent, and after 10 minutes of repeatedly egging each other on and then begging for mercy to stop, lather rinse repeat, we finally got hold of ourselves and tried to resume our facades as grown women with manners. Sort of.
Decor was fabulous. View sublime. Outdoor seating lovely. Food okay. Prices high. Buckthorn mojito MAGICAL. read more
