While I had not made a reservation in advance, I stopped by the restaurant, walked up the stairs and asked whether they had by chance a table left for lunch. The waitress told me they only had the last one on high chairs. I asked to reserve that table, since I had to pick up my mother in her wheel chair from my car parked on a lot nearby. And I also asked for someone to activate the lift on the stairs for my mother to be moved then to the restaurant level. Having picked up my Mom not even 5 minutes later, an elderly waiter shouted down the stairs that meanwhile the table was taken, since I had not waited at the bottom of the stairs and they did not want to miss out on other customers and loose money. While I voiced my disbelief, sine I had made my firm verbal reservation just minutes ago, the waiter and another colleague of his - instead of offering an apology - they told me in an even more rude tone that it was my fault and I should go my way.
