Had dinner here with a group of people from work. I've been here a few times before and it's always been very good, I can't give it five stars though, I've never found it to be that amazing, but I've also never been disappointed here. This time I had the pumpkin soup for a starter and the veal fillet for my main. The soup was good, very tasty. The veal was also very good, well cooked - still a bit red. The veal came with some tempura veggies that were excellently cooked, a nice crispy batter and excellent taste. I had a beer with dinner, but they have a nice selection of wine as well. They had a small selection of deserts. I tried a few And they were all very nice. It's a very nice restaurant and it was all very tasty, but for the price I expect a bit more. read more

I really don't like it when people write "it was the best meal I ever ate" in their reviews. So it pains me to write this review since I have to say, "it was the one of the best meals I ever had.". The sea bass was out of this world amazing. Five star restaurant experience, from the atmosphere to the service to the food. Try the meza platter for an appetizer, the eggplant was particularly good as was the curried hummus. It is pricey but even crappy food in Basel is expensive so you my as well spend your money on something great. read more

Oliv is one of the few places in Basel that consistently delivers food you will love. The daily specials are creative and prepared with fresh seasonal ingredients, so I often find myself going for those. The fish dishes tend to be my favorite, as they are good at dressing it up beyond 'simply grilled'. They also pay attention to vegetarian options, so it's a good place to take your vegetarian foodie friend from San Francisco! It's a nice, intimate dining room, but you will not be writing home about the location or the views. If they were on the Rhine, you would think you were dining in heaven, but it is just as well as then the angels would hog all the nice tables! read more

This was our first meal on our trek to Basel, and it was fabulous. The chef even came out at the end our meal to talk over how we enjoyed the experience and food. I had the ravioli special with duck liver (unbelievably delicious), and my spouse had the sea bass. Both dishes were outstanding and very different flavors (yes, we do share so we can enjoy both experiences). The wine list is solid - trust that they wouldn't put a bad wine on a list at such a location. We had the cheapest bottle of Spanish red, and it was lovely. My biggest mistake coming here was that I was very casually dressed in a T-shirt and jeans. Nonetheless, the maître d' welcomed us warmly and insisted that we stay for dinner despite my wanting to leave and grab a button-down shirt and blazer. Our food was gorgeously presented and delicious. Service was impeccable and the wine selection amazing! I cannot wait to return in more formal attire to enjoy this amazing restaurant just one block from our apartment. read more
