To be honest, we didn't really enjoy their pastas (one fishy, the other bland) or tiramisu, but the pizza was delicious. Very fresh and my fiancée can't stop raving about it. The service wasn't the best, as they didn't pay much attention to us and cared for the larger tables more. I don't know if I'd return given the plethora of dining options within Zurich.

Il Faro is one of a small chain of Italian restaurants in the Zurich area. (At least I think it's…read morea chain as there are about four restaurants I know of in the Zurich metropolitan area with the same name!) The one I like the best is in Herrliberg which is a tiny and hilly village south of Zurich - direct on the Zurichsee. In fact there is a ferry boat across the lake just a little bit south of here. Il Faro is designed for a bit of old-world charm. The menu is your basic standard Italian - to me not the most interesting cuisine in the world - but it does these all-too-familiar dishes well. I opted for a pizza called the Exotica this time as at least it was a little bit different having green bananas as one of the toppings. This rather large Exotica pizza was good enough although not exceptional. The salad was small but really good - tasty dressing and crisp salad ingredients. A Feldschlösschen Bier was a nice accompaniment. The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive! Anyway, if you find yourself travelling around the Zurichsee (Lake Zurich) by foot, car, or boat .... keep this place in Herrliberg in mind for a lunch or dinner stop. And in warm weather there is an attractive outdoor eating area overlooking the lake.

When we arrived, the place was full, so make a reservation. We were greeted with a prosecco as we waited a minute or two for our table to be ready. This was the real deal. The staff appeared and sounded quintessentially Italian, the clay oven was in plain sight, and did the place ever smell delicious!  Shortly after being seated, I noticed the restaurant had framed certificates noting they'd been awarded the world championship awards multiple times since the 2000s. At that moment it occurred to me that we might very well actually be in for the world's best pizza. We ordered four different pizzas and split them four ways, giving us all a chance to taste a bit of everything. My favourites were the prosciutto & mushroom pizza, though their award winning special was notably the hit at our table. Truthfully, I don't have anything bad to say about any of the pizzas. The toppings were incredibly fresh and I can only assume directly from Italy.  I mean, it was the best pizza I've ever had. I highly recommend if you are in or near Zurich. It's definitely pricey by North American standards (Approx. 30 Francs per pizza), but the quality did not disappoint.

Team and the Mexican German Italian owner are very friendly and dedicated and experienced professionals. The delicious food was cooked à la minute and was really delicious: pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and salted crust fresh fish (which O have verified) was fantastic. The homemade "zuppa inglese" (not easy to find in Switzerland) was an extraordinary experience. The Italian olive oil was tasty and genuine. Very impressed.... pricing are on average for this kind of service and restaurant. I recommend and will return with my family.

I told them we didn't need food, but asked if they had a menu for the wine, to which they looked at me like I was crazy and then pointed to 4 bottles sitting on the top of the bar with no prices, no description of the bottles they were poring. They also pointed to the wall as well. That was it - nothing else, no explanation further. Why on earth would I spend my money here? We immediately left and went to Drinx Bar up the street, with which we were very pleased. Such an awful representation of the kind service we've received elsewhere in Zurich.

They only have two options each day. When you dine in, they ask you if you want a second serving...! When you dive out, the price goes down...! The price is much lower than the competition, (competition being every other random Italian restaurant in Zurich) and the interior decor has a rugged-chic feel. I love it. The first time I ate there I had a pasta with mushroom, beef, random veggies, and cream. It was nothing I would normally go for and it was uh-mazing. The second time I got my food to-go which cost me 3 francs less and it was a penne with bolognese. :) Bolognese is hands down my favorite food ever and this wasn't any different, absolutely amazing. I don't even know what else to say. Love it. Go try it. Boopideebapee! (that is the extent of my italian)
