Recently the place was renovated and turned into a luxury hotel. The setting is wonderful at the edge of the Svendborg Sund / by the water. The rooms are good sized (by Danish Standards) and have free Wifi. The place has a really fantastic kitchen. We had individual small plates for breakfast. We had 2 courses for lunch and 3 course meals at dinner with really good wine. The food is top notch and very tasty. There is also a small bar and great facilities to hang-out. In a neighboring building they have meeting facilities. The coffee / tea was not fantastic for the meeting, but the rest was wonderful and at a very reasonable price.

Probably the best compliment that you can give a hotel. Especially the General Manager Peter Ibsen, the F&B chef Kim and the entire service staff including Jacob did a terrific job. They have been at the forefront at all times and worked very hard to please us and make this wedding a once in a lifetime experience. Everybody walked the extra mile for us. The hotel Stella Maris is absolutely wonderful. It is a very charming, lovely and stylish boutique hotel with a very good eye for the details. The rooms are kept in a very nice Scandinavian interior design. From most of the rooms and the terrace you can see the Svendbørg sund and it gives you the feeling of being right by the sea. The restaurant and the food is fantastic and sustainable. The ingredients are very local or being delivered from the island Vejrø where they grow vegetables, pork, eggs etc. that are being used in the cuisine. Some of our guests mentioned that this was the best food they have ever had at a wedding. Also the a l a carte menu is excellent. We have not had a single menu that wasn't great. Also if you have time we would also recommend you to visit Vejrø, stay over in the lovely rooms and eat at the skipperly. There you can see and experience how the ingredients are being grown and kept. If you plan your wedding or just want to stay for a romantic weekend escape and want a wonderful hotel in a great location with competent, experienced, service oriented staff and fantastic local food - go there! We would do it any time again.

All in all a meal I shall not soon forget. Food: Recommended to choose 3-5 courses per person at 130 Kr. each; I chose 4, but 3 actually may have been enough. My four courses: 1. Tartare of Norwegian lobster with walnuts & crispy lobster 2. Cod with egg yolk, cress & sauce with marrow 3. Roasted halibut with snails glazed in garlic, potatoes & bisque 4. Crisp sweetbread with pumpkin, chanterelles & chicken sauce There were lovely aspects to each dish, but the cod with egg yolk was absolutely one of the top five dishes of my life. Never thought I would feel that way about cod, but you have to experience the smells and textures of this dish to understand. The marrow was smoked, the yolk was spherified, and the cod was the perfect temperature. I could go on and on about each dish, describing how well these plates were put together, but it's really just best to go and have the experience (but I will say that the crispy lobster will blow your mind). Choose wines, beer, or cocktails to go with your dinner. You can have a lot of fun with pairings here. Service: Impeccable. Vibe: Seaside-modern-easy-chic. Young and hip staff wearing black with brown leather aprons who are knowledgeable about the wines and the food. This is absolutely my kinda place. We sat in the sun room surrounded by windows and it was the perfect place to enjoy the evening. Family-friendly: No way I would bring children here. It may be just fine to do so in Denmark, but I would rather save this type of experience for me and my missus. Summary: Restaurant Sletten represents all that is right these days in the food scene. And I guess I mean that it's so much more about the food than the scene. Well-intentioned flavor combinations that really work. I generally hesitate to use words like "well-balanced," because it's an over-used term that describes a situation that can be very hard to achieve. But Sletten absolutely achieves it in every sense. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to dine here.

You simply cannot give this place less than 5 stars !…read more Beautiful interior, delicious food, friendly and informative staff, super cozy atmosphere. I was a part of a big family and friends group, celebrating a birthday. At the arrival we sat at the biggest table the had prepared for us, with everything elegantly set on the table. After a while they brought fresh bread and buns with home butter, and some small amuse-bouche. One was quail egg with truffles and a small onion tartlet. For starter we got a beautiful plate of foie gras, very good but comparing to the plates that came later it wasn't as exciting (perhaps because it's not my favorite dish, the four gras itself). Second starter was my favorite dish of the evening- probably because I love mushrooms. It was a mushroom ravioli with beef stock and morchella mushroom on the side. It was probably the most amazing mushroom dish I had tried in a long time. For main course we got a beef filet with a mix of chanterelle mushroom with a gravy infused with wild berries and on the side mashed potatoes with slow cooked beef. Delicious dish, meat was just melting in your mouth and mixed with all the ingredients it was heavenly. Last course was a dessert which was a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a merengue, cream cheese and a flambéed peach. All in all a great place with a very modern cuisine, great food, great atmosphere, located at a pedestrian street in the middle of the city. 5/5 is certainly deserved.

Not once but twice have i been to this place, and I have observed numerous costumers getting bad treatment, so i know it's not just me. At my first visit the waiter got abnormally irritated at me for requesting something from the menu that was out of stock which i couldn't have known, and then an even worse attitude when i asked for recommendations. Not a good first impression but i let it slide. seated outside, beside us were a couple who then got scolded for adjusting the chair (which was a horrible broken seat) and i could go on. Second time was far worse when i ordered moules frites and couldnt possibly have fitted the empty mussel shells on the small plate under the bowl so i separated the two, simply to make it easier for the poor waiter to take away when the owner personally came up to my table and rudely waved his hand in my face, actually yelling "we don't do that here!!" And claimed i was "making a mess" keep in mind i am an adult woman and the tone he told me that would've been equivalent to how you would lecture a small child. I was simply trying to help the cleanup be easier, and i respect if i misjudged that decision, but a simple nicer request for me to keep the bowl on the plate would have been a lot more polite and not make me and everyone else in the restaurant extremely uncomfortable (which they visibly were, hence the very tight and not so spacious seating inside where everyone heard everything anyone was saying). Of course i paid for the food but left without finishing my meal, simply just embarrassed and disappointed. Cause god forbid i would make a mess in their 3 star bistro. I am usually not a complainer, but i am making this review in hopes that i can prevent other people from going home feeling sick to my stomach for being lectured by a grumpy old man with a gut-wrenching attitude. I would go into details about the food as well, but i don't think the fact that the "french" food was incredibly bland even matters, i think what matters is that you should be able to enjoy a meal without the judgement of a stranger with no regard to customer experience. The tartar sauce for the dried out fries was decent though, that's all.
