If you are working out in the countryside around here, it's a long way to go home for lunch. So, all the restaurants have a set menu at lunchtime priced to be affordable for hungry workers. Some are good three course meals and others are one plate wonders, usually a meat dish with frites.
Le Roquentin is one of the best. A comfortable and welcoming, modern village restaurant with a sunny outside terrace and a range of fixed price menus starting from 11,90 Euros. For that money, you get three courses of excellently cooked and presented traditional dishes made from fresh local products and served by a super-friendly and efficient family team.
The dishes change with the season and today's menu included a vast selection of hors d'oeuvre varié followed by a choice of boeuf Bourguignon, entrecôte steak or sole cooked with lemon and almonds and a choice of fresh, home made tarts and desserts to finish.
Between the three of us we sampled each of the main courses. The slowly stewed Bourguignon was falling apart good with deep, rich flavors, the steak was a fine cut of local beef cooked perfectly and unashamedly "a point" and the sole was fresh-tasting with a perfect balance of sauce that did not hide the flavour of the fish. Special mention has to go to the clafoutis aux abricots, I'd have paid 11.90 just for that! None of it is haute cuisine but solid, delicious local cooking made and served with love.
Three people, bottle of vin rosé, coffees and two very relaxed hours in the sun on the terrace: 52 Euros. A little gem. read more
