It's nothing too creative or exciting, but it is fresh and good. They serve a lemongrass and ginger lemonade which is very good though you don't really taste the lemongrass and ginger. It's still a nice change from the usual lemon spritzer. The service is friendly. I really want to come back to try their Friday special which you can see on the photo below. Fried chicken and potato salad for only €5.50! They have a nice playground mostly for small kids, but also including a large trampoline. They have a kids' menu for around 5 euros. Friends mentioned how they enjoy coming here for a hot chocolate after cross country skiing in the Steinhofgründe. I must try that next winter. In the meantime, I plan on hiking up sometime with the family on a Friday for that special and another lemongrass ginger lemonade!

Personally I'm not a fan due to the following: - I like my meat to fall off the bone, - I don't like strings of fat or chew in my bites. If you are the opposite of me, then you'll love these ribs! We had 4 portions of the 3-rack sampler giving us the flexibility to try all flavours. Stay away from the cheese ribs unless you like wet and stinky meat. Otherwise for the tough rib, these rank high with the likes of strand café and zur alte kaiser mühler. I also tried the crepe with nuts inside. OK if you want watery tasting nuts in a wet crepe.

I've eaten here probably three or four times over the years- think somewhat modernised spins on Austrian classics( e.g tafelspitz with citrus) The set menus are not to be sniffed at, nor the excellent wine list (of essentially local wine only). I'd recommend coming in the winter, when there are fewer tourists, it's not as rammed - although the outdoor seating is nice in summer- and the service is a bit more attentive.

Witwe Bolt was across the square and had a non-smoking room, so why not? Dinners start with bread and tasty spreads and I opted for a glass of Prosecco as well. Sadly, it was flat - but that was really the only downside of our meal. We split a mixed salad which was nice and fresh, and I opted for the tafelspitz. Witwe Bolt's version was tender and not fatty and served with carrots, parsnips and turnips. It was the second best tafelspitz of the trip, edged out by Boheme down the street. My husband tried Zweibelrostbraten - essentially flank steak with onion strings. He was really happy with his dinner - he said the quality of the meat was very good. Our waiter was really friendly, and never let glasses go dry. The other patrons were quite friendly as well - we ended up talking to an Austrian/British couple who recommended some of their favorite local places for dinner which was really nice. As a bonus, the restaurant is quite historic - it was built in the late 1700's and one door bears an inscription letting you know that Emperor Joseph II was kicked out of here back in the days when this was a tavern. If you're interested in Spittelberg history, our dining room had several books on this, including one with photos of buildings pre and post restoration.
