My wife and I found this jewel while visiting Basel on April 13, 2016. Neither of us speak German,…read morebut we were able to recognize "medallions of pork fillet" and "spinach noodles in pesto" on the German-only menu and were delighted with our entrees. The restaurant interior was charming. The food was delicious and the presentation was most impressive. The price was modest for the value received. I might add that we had been walking and riding trams all day and I found the iced tea so refreshing that I drank two carafes. It was easily our most memorable meal in Switzerland, yet far from the most expensive! It was well worth the (scenic) trip from the Messeplatz to the Bruderholz watertower.

i heard of this restaurant because they once composed the menu in the first class of SWISS airlines…read moreand also they have the highest ranking (gault millau, michelin) in the region of Baselland. on my birthday i searched for a restaurant, and i thought its finally time to try this one out! Food: they offer a different degustation-menu daily. which means theres no a la carte, but obviously if you don't like a meal, they would make something special for you. it was a 4-course meal and cost 120.- quite pricey but totally worth it! every meal was excellent!!! Service: young personnel and the owner was very nice. she is the host and takes the orders, while her husband works in the kitchen. Atmosphere: it is in the outer skirts of basel but not too far away and right next to the main street. the interior is very modern and fits the restaurant. they also have an outside area which is very nice in summer and also quiet because the street is on the other side of the house. I came here with high expectations as this is the highest rated restaurant in the canton of baselland. and the expections were even exceeded!! they totally deserve their rating and i'll surely be back!! :)

I can't say much negative about my experience at this Restaurant…read more I went there for a company social event with 59 other people from work and we had Fondue Bacchus. Look it up, it's a great dish for, sitting together and have good time when it's cold out there. The servers were flying around like bees brining more meat, fries, wine for the crowd. All in all it was a great experience.

The Restaurant Krone in Schönenbuch is a friendly place in a rather challenging environment…read more Challenging because it's pretty far outside of Basel near the French border, so they not only have to bet on people who got lost out there but also with some French "auberges" with exquisite cuisines right next door. However, they are doing a good job out there. Super friendly staff and always something new on the lunch menu. I was a bit unlucky with my lunch choice though, for one, the pork steak wasn't cooked enough, and the meat was somewhat chewy, but our server took care of it. On the cooking part, that was, the meat was still on the cheap side. But hey, the place is nice and cozy and staff friendly; I'd give them another chance for sure when I'm back in the area.

My brother and I stopped by here on our way through Basel for lunch. I ordered the pork and potatoes and my brother had the spicy pizza. Before we ordered our waitress brought us a glass of sparkling water with limes and small berries. It was light and refreshing which hit the spot! She also served us bread with a pork fat spread that had our eyes wide in amazement. Usually spreads are sweet but this one was savory and delicious! The pork was cooked right and the potatoes were filling, however my brother won the food choice award with the pizza. They serve a thin cracker type crust with pepperoni style meat, arugula and some type of creamy cheese that melted in your mouth! I'm not a fan of arugula's strong taste but with this pizza it made it! So delicious and so good! Our waitress spoke wonderful English and helped us translate the menu. We always try our best to learn some of the lingo but she made it easy and enjoyable. Overall this restaurant is great! If I ever come back through Basel I will definitely eat ordering the pizza again! Highly recommend this place for locals and travelers alike!
