Heute zeichnet sich die Alm durch ihre wunderbare Lage mit dem Blick ins Tal - hinüber zum Wilden Kaiser sowie das urige Ambiente . Manche sagen sogar romantisch ;-). We had a group of 7 so it was a little hard to fit us in at first. We ate a mix of their Italian offerings. One smart person in out group ordered the diavolo pizza. Topped with large thin slices of salami, spicy peppers and garlic, this pizza was unbeatable. I have had dreams about this pizza over the last three years. We came back to St. Johann this year and have been back for the pizza twice. Would highly recommend it. If you have room for desert, a classic apple strudel and espresso will do the trick.

On one side a terrace overlooks the mighty Wilder Kaiser and the other a lawn shaded by old trees. Inside the decor is Austrian country house and the guests likely to be smart. The food - all local produce - will be imaginatively prepared in Austrian nouvelle style, but try and hold on for the sensational puddings - particularly the lovely heidelbeern (known locally as moosbeern and to me as myrtille)- pudding - but you'll have to be there in summer to get it. The local wines are absolutely delicious and although you will find plenty of the now internationally fashionable white Grüner Veltliner, try the red Zweigelt -Johann Topf or others - as well. This is a place for a very long weekend.

Tip: always make a reservation for dinner in Kitzbuhel. We enjoyed a mix of dishes, some Italian influences and other Austrian. After a Greek salad, which was only partially that style, I had the veal liver which was served with mushrooms and rice. Really tasty. Others in the group had dishes including Veal Schnitzel, Goulash, and lasagna. Most were pretty good. The staff was efficient and helpful and they had a full drink selection including wine, beer and simple cocktails. And the price was decent too. Don't know if I'll get a chance to come back, but I'd easily be a repeat customer here.
