We both grew up with Lafleur's and Norman' but we knew this place would sate our appetites. When you walk in you'll see a very long counter to your right where they take your orders. Ken ordered us both two steamies and french fries (the taste cannot be matched anywhere else in the world - and only those who come from Québec understand this). Le madame at the cash/took the orders and before long we were seated at a bench next to the window. The steamies (Montréal-style steamed hot dogs) were prepared "all dressed" avec mustard, relish et coleslaw (it used to be made with a vinegar based dressing back when I was a kid). Had to have vinegar with my fries (yummy ), which is how I've always eaten them. Had a large drink to wash it down and upon completion of our meal, we were both completely satisfied that we had stopped here. What I like about being in Québec (apart from my family) is that they recycle, even in restaurants so when you're finished with your meal you have a choice of two receptacles to put your trash: recyclable items (paper) and trash plastic forks, soda cups). My husband was craving a steamie and I was craving poutine and we just happened to be visiting the area so off we go our favorite bad for you food place. The poutine is a generous serving of fries with gravy and squeaky curds. If you let the gravy get cold, it becomes a gelatinous mess so eat up quickly. The steamy has the requisite slaw and steamed bun. My husband was in his glory. The venue itself needs a good cleaning but we'll still be back next year for the same mess of bad good food.

Happened upon it thanks to recommendations from our awesome CM Risa (who told Mariko, who told me, who told... U get the picture) because it happens to be right in primo hiking and camping territory right off the highway (117-N). (Like literally RIGHT off the highway: SLAM ON YOUR BREAKS! OH NO, YOU MISSED IT! OH MAN, HAFTA GO BACK AROUND! ...and it is SO worth it, so do go back around if you miss it lol.) This seems to be a little family run spot. Son is definitely the best at providing friendly, sweet service, Dad's not terrible but not super bubbly or anything and Mom ...well she's a weird one, but it seems like once she recognizes you service becomes sweet and very attentive all of the sudden, so bonus points when you come often! Chicken burger: hmmm the chicken was really good, but had an odd texture, same toppings as the Burger so that's amazing too, but the bun is slightly too big and the chicken slightly too weird for this to be something I'd order regularly. They also boast many vegetarian options here too like the pogos and veggie dogs and I am told it's amazing, but I'm not buyin into that, gimme the meats! Price is quite expensive for a little road side truck stop, but the quality and love put into this food makes it worth every penny spent so I can't even remove a star for that. There's one tiny bathroom which is not ideal, but does the trick. There's outdoor seating and 'indoor seating' (screened in dining area). And also a kyoot space for kids to play (swing set). This place is quiet at the beginning of the season, but gets busier as summer goes along. We were always in and out within 10-15 minutes, though. Imagine you're making home fries at home and there's those rounded end pieces of potato that aren't quite the A grade cut potato for a french fry. It doesn't quite fry up right and we unconsciously push that rejected fry to the edge and eat around it. Now imagine almost all the fries are from that reject pile. Quite unappetizing. The poutine was assembled in a peculiar fashion of B-Grade-Reject fries, drizzle of poutine sauce and chopped up curds piled on top. When assembled this way, your poutine of disappointment does not melt the cheese curd. Great steamy hotdog though. I think I'll make spaghetti next week and enjoy carbs without disappointment.
