I managed to start with their french onion soup which hit the spot in the cold weather , but it could have simply be my meal for the night!!! I have had really good experience here with their food quality, and great service. The sitting room is also unique and charming. See my pix. The price is higher than average but a few more francs are worth the quality. I have been to at least 10-12 other restaurants in Neuchatel over the past 3-4 years. Le Cardinal is on the top of all of them that I've tried!

Currently on a bike tour, our hunger was major! The waitress took her time to come over to our table, which I don't understand- she was totally able. So we had a quick drink and mosied on by, but the last time I was here it was so alive! I came for lunch a while back and the service rocked. They gave me a table with "reserved" on the top. They carried Boxer beer with the bugel top cap. My first time with it 'n enjoyed it to the max. My savory and sweet crepes were both so lecker, but we couldn't wait around for crepes with this weather! So my suggestion is to come at lunch and not in the 'morn- cuz if you come with hunger, you'll leave there forlorn!

But if you want to experience the full potential of the cuisine, you need to come see the masters. Salty or sweet, stuffed with strange cheeses and meats, or with exotic liqueurs or just sugar, different batters... it's all here on the menu. Don't expect to leave after just one... life just doesn't work that way. And the house special coffee comes with a sweet surprise... but I won't spoil that for you. This place has been around forever, according to my local source... and likely will stay as long. They keep their own hours, but are often open on Sundays and Mondays and other times when other restaurants are closed. It's a pretty safe assumption that if they're open they'll be busy... but the place is large enough that you'll likely find a seat anyway. They're right on Avenue du Premier-Mars with no parking, but there's a public garage not a block away by Place du Port, and also a large public lot by the beach up Rue des Arts.
