Pizza here in Switzerland is dominated by the Italian style of pie... small, crisp round discs of…read moredough spotted with an assortment of toppings, eaten with a fork and knife, and given various semi-descriptive names. Most restaurants have between five and twenty pies on the menu, even if they're not really pizza places.
Pizzeria des Allées crushes them all into oblivion, with a menu that offers over two hundred different pizza names! Unfortunately, they are all really the same Italian pizza with some combination of the twenty or so different toppings they stock. Don't get me wrong... they make a good Italian pizza, even if I can't really understand the logic between a New York (tomato, mozz, ham, bacon, mushrooms, onions, asparagus, peppers, olives, and oregano???) and a USA (the same pizza with an egg and no olives or asparagus)... the names are just random. On an amusing side note, some of the spicier pizzas named after devils were recently re-christened after angels (with the requisite handschrift write-in next to cross-out marks), but you can still order a Ben Laden, Fidel, or Adolf if that's your fancy.
The one strong point for me, besides the excellent friendly service, is the calzone is substantially less crispy than the usual Italian frisbee, so I've been working my way through the four or so of those offered on the menu. The wine is decent and reasonably priced for Switzerland, and the desserts are fine indeed. Anything on the menu is available for take-out at a reasonable discount (10 or 15% I think) if that's your pleasure.
I like this place... they're open on Mondays, and very conveniently right next to the Bas des Allees stop on the Onde Verte, and the footpath through Paradis Plage campground. They have their own parking, and if you like multitasking the recycling collection boxes are out back.
