The Orangerie is a beautiful restaurant nestled near the majestic Château de Chenonceau. If you're wanting some gourmet cuisine before exploring the castle, the Orangerie is the place to be!
We came to visit the castle on a rainy Monday or Tuesday (close to noon I think but still early) so the restaurant was pretty quiet. We were seated right away by a couple (handsome!) French waiters/hosts. Both were very accommodating even though my French was a bit rusty. :)
My friend started off with a vegetable soup while I had the foie gras. IT WAS SO FREAKIN GOOD. Melt-in-your-mouth goodness! It came with a brioche and some type of condiment with savory onions, mmm. I ended up needing more bread, which my helpful waiter/host was more than happy to bring. Yes, foie gras is quite rich so you may need more bread too! We then had our salads, both with goat cheese. I ordered the one with two types since I love cheese in general. The salads were stinky but oh so yummy. I had a glass of red with my meal so I think that helped enhance all the flavors. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to order dessert so I can't really comment on that part. I'll definitely be back to try some other options. Go with a friend or go alone, you won't regret it! Vive la France!
FYI: We were in France in mid-March so your experience may vary. ;) read more
