*! First time at Miggelenberg (bad experience):
-For 2 people, we got a 4 person cabin because it was cheaper than a 2 person one, for whatever reason...
-Driving up to our cabin, we noticed that our cabin was extremely close to the road, making my girlfriend and I feel like we had a bit less privacy than we were hoping for on our vacation. Absolutely no front yard, just a tiny spot to park the car in-front of the cabin.
-We got into the cabin itself to discover that it was very unclean and had little silverfish bugs everywhere. The floors, counters, table and other surfaces were streaked like they had been lazily wiped off with a cloth soaked in dirty water.
-We knew this going into the cabin that the bed in the main bedroom has 2 separate mattresses/box springs. For a couple, this was very uncomfortable to sleep on when we wanted to be close to each other, we kept falling in/laying in the gap between the mattresses.
-The kitchen looked as though it could have used some updating and there wasn't a lot of space in the kitchen because of the big table and chairs sat in the middle of the room. There is also a small refrigerator.
-For a 4-person cabin, the couch was only big enough to seat 2 people. Not that it mattered to us because it was only the two of us, I just thought it was strange.
*! Second time at Miggelenberg (good experience):
-We saved up for the luxurious 2-person cabin, for a 2 week stay, it cost over 1,200 euro ($1,595 USD).
-Our cabin was off the road and surrounded by a hillside, making my girlfriend and I feel as though we finally had enough privacy.
-Upon walking into the cabin, there was an odd smell, like burnt food, but it faded away fairly quickly.
-The cabin was a lot cleaner than the first one, but my girlfriend insisted on cleaning everything again anyway because she didn't trust it.
-The bed in the bedroom is a HUGE bed, I'm guessing it was a king size, plenty of room for a couple to sleep (and other stuff) comfortably.
-Another plus is there is a wall-mounted TV in the bedroom.
-Big, comfortable sectional couch.
-Nice, updated kitchen area, large refrigerator with plenty of room to move around while you cook.
-Toilet and bathroom were combined into one room, like they are in America.
*! Overall PRO's of Miggelenberg:
-The beautiful, hilly, tree-filled landscape of the park made me feel at home, since where I live in the states is very hilly and tree-filled.
-Lots of activities and places to walk/explore.
-Has an indoor pool (which we've never used, but it's nice that it's there).
-All cabins have access to the internet if you bring your laptop.
-Petting zoo.
-The restaurant in the park, Timbers, caters to vegetarians by labeling menu items that are vegetarian friendly.
-Has a little grocery store in-park that has basic foods and fresh baked breads, rolls and croissants.
*! Overall CON's of Miggelenberg:
-Internet in the cabins is painfully slow. If you want to upload a video to the internet about your vacation to share with your family and friends, you might be waiting a very long time for it to upload. Average time for my videos to upload were around 200-500+ minutes.
-The restaurant in the park, Timbers, was rather expensive. My girlfriend invited her family to come with us to dinner at Timbers and the bill was outrageous. My girlfriend and her mom ordered steaks and both steaks arrived cold. Portion sizes were a bit lacking on the steaks and the schnitzels were kind of puny. The pasta I got, which had the most food out of everyone's, was the cheapest thing on the bill... weird.
-Snack bar sadly didn't have vegetarian croquet on the menu, only a small con, but still kinda sucked.
-I'm not sure on this because we never did any of the activities in the park, but I read in some other review somewhere that you have to pay to do a lot of the activities in the park. With the price of cabin rentals, you shouldn't have to pay extra for the other stuff, like miniature golf. I can understand bike rentals, but c'mon.
-Amusing con, one of the goats in the petting zoo is extremely greedy. If you buy some of the feed to give the animals, he will stand up on the fence and wrap his head around the board and try to lick the feed out of the machine before you have a chance to give any to other goats. Helps to have another person with you to block either side of the machine to get the feed out. Also split the feed up between you and the other person so the poor other goats can have some too because the greedy one will butt the other's out of the way so he can have all of it. We call this goat, Phil the greedy b*st*rd.
*! My opinion of Miggelenberg:
-I like this park, regardless of my first bad experience there. I will probably continue to vacation here with my girlfriend so we can get away from her parent's house... at least until she gets a place of her own, but until then...
