For those hardcore food fanatics, French Cuisine is probably top of their list. My Uncles had…read morebought me to Auberge Navet. Normally they would come to here to celebrate something, but since they got a VIP (me). We went on a Monday evening and it wasn't really busy, but we did had reservations just in case, because they can be unpredictably busy. Ordering from the menu was quite easy since they actually print out English language menus. Everything on the menu was on season. For appetizers, we started with a chicory soup. It came in a nice narrow cup and it tasted delicious! When it came to the items we ordered, I started out first with a egg Dutch shrimp salad. The salad was presented very elegantly. The salad was very superb, all the flavors fused together very well and the texture OMG so good! Then for the main course I had a . My uncles had sweet bread which I wasn't brave enough to pick for my main course. But my uncle gave me a bite of the sweet bread it was so graciously done. The sweet bread is very crispy on the outside and it's tender and soft on the instead. There was absolutely no taste of organ odor or anything. My main course was the beef filet. Mines was classically done. It was done a very perfectly medium rare, the sidings were all so delicious. To finish off our meals, we ordered Irish Coffee and all the in-house made sweets to help accompany it. The restaurant is very proper. Right when we enter the restaurant, one of the staff was there was ready to take our coats. They always service individuals to their right. The server is friendly and does everything promptly. The waiter would serve food from your right side. Though they are a very proper restaurant, they don't mind if you come in with shorts on a hot summer day. I believe that Navet is just probably focused on giving the patrons the very pleasant experience instead of just exclusively on being proper. ------ + Pro: Great proper service, delicious food! - Con: none! d( ^,^)-b Overall: Pleasant experience that I would love to come again whenever there's a chance.

The oreo cheesecake is awesome, as is the merlot. The salad coming with the steaks was different - and great - each night (we went there two nights in a row, it was so good). The service was very attentive and the food comes out fast. The outdoor terrace is lovely, but secretly I wished it was raining so I could sit on that massive leather couch inside. Too bad. Only a very minor point deduction for not crisp french fries - although some people like them this way, so not sure we can fairly deduct.

This place would have been better off with a buzzer and picking up your own meal at the counter. Instead, we spent too many moments at the table ackwardly trying to make eyecontact with the waiteress in order to get our orders through. In all honesty, she did seem very busy. It was Friday night, they said. It was busy, they said. But none of those things should have come as a surprise. Friday is listed on the calender and happens every week and for the busy; wel they take reservations so they could have known. Something went terribly wrong here in the staffing. From cooks to service, everyone seemed below 17. Nothing with that per se, but waiting tables is a profession and takes some years to learn properly. Which is why it might seem they were also desperately busy, while on the other hand eveyone was waiting. In addition, we came in with an a "Albert Heijn 2e gang gratis actie", which turned out a total ripoff (they raised the price of the menu by 50% compared to the weekly menu, and then gave us the second one for free..). It made me feel naked and ashamed afterwards. All in all, the food was not bad. I had a vitello tonato which was worth recommending and a duck which I will soon forget. My company had the soup tasting out of which one was way to salty, one was way too spicey and third was a tomato soup with a spoon of quark. The dessert was an hour too late and after it came, we had to wait for cutlery for five minutes so it almost melted on our plates. They say never say never again, but I don't know whome "they" exactly are. Certainly none of the people I was dining with. Never! P.S. While paying I had a quick peek in their kitchen (also staffed with youngsters). It was hardly what you would call a neat and clean workplace. I didn't get stomach cramps afterwards or anything, but if I had, I'd need not look far for a cause.

First time at Miggelenberg (bad experience): -For 2 people, we got a 4 person cabin because it was cheaper than a 2 person one, for whatever reason... -Driving up to our cabin, we noticed that our cabin was extremely close to the road, making my girlfriend and I feel like we had a bit less privacy than we were hoping for on our vacation. Absolutely no front yard, just a tiny spot to park the car in-front of the cabin. -We got into the cabin itself to discover that it was very unclean and had little silverfish bugs everywhere. The floors, counters, table and other surfaces were streaked like they had been lazily wiped off with a cloth soaked in dirty water. -We knew this going into the cabin that the bed in the main bedroom has 2 separate mattresses/box springs. For a couple, this was very uncomfortable to sleep on when we wanted to be close to each other, we kept falling in/laying in the gap between the mattresses. -The kitchen looked as though it could have used some updating and there wasn't a lot of space in the kitchen because of the big table and chairs sat in the middle of the room. There is also a small refrigerator. -For a 4-person cabin, the couch was only big enough to seat 2 people. Not that it mattered to us because it was only the two of us, I just thought it was strange. *! Second time at Miggelenberg (good experience): -We saved up for the luxurious 2-person cabin, for a 2 week stay, it cost over 1,200 euro ($1,595 USD). -Our cabin was off the road and surrounded by a hillside, making my girlfriend and I feel as though we finally had enough privacy. -Upon walking into the cabin, there was an odd smell, like burnt food, but it faded away fairly quickly. -The cabin was a lot cleaner than the first one, but my girlfriend insisted on cleaning everything again anyway because she didn't trust it. -The bed in the bedroom is a HUGE bed, I'm guessing it was a king size, plenty of room for a couple to sleep (and other stuff) comfortably. -Another plus is there is a wall-mounted TV in the bedroom. -Big, comfortable sectional couch. -Nice, updated kitchen area, large refrigerator with plenty of room to move around while you cook. -Toilet and bathroom were combined into one room, like they are in America. *! Overall PRO's of Miggelenberg: -The beautiful, hilly, tree-filled landscape of the park made me feel at home, since where I live in the states is very hilly and tree-filled. -Lots of activities and places to walk/explore. -Has an indoor pool (which we've never used, but it's nice that it's there). -All cabins have access to the internet if you bring your laptop. -Petting zoo. -The restaurant in the park, Timbers, caters to vegetarians by labeling menu items that are vegetarian friendly. -Has a little grocery store in-park that has basic foods and fresh baked breads, rolls and croissants. *! Overall CON's of Miggelenberg: -Internet in the cabins is painfully slow. If you want to upload a video to the internet about your vacation to share with your family and friends, you might be waiting a very long time for it to upload. Average time for my videos to upload were around 200-500+ minutes. -The restaurant in the park, Timbers, was rather expensive. My girlfriend invited her family to come with us to dinner at Timbers and the bill was outrageous. My girlfriend and her mom ordered steaks and both steaks arrived cold. Portion sizes were a bit lacking on the steaks and the schnitzels were kind of puny. The pasta I got, which had the most food out of everyone's, was the cheapest thing on the bill... weird. -Snack bar sadly didn't have vegetarian croquet on the menu, only a small con, but still kinda sucked. -I'm not sure on this because we never did any of the activities in the park, but I read in some other review somewhere that you have to pay to do a lot of the activities in the park. With the price of cabin rentals, you shouldn't have to pay extra for the other stuff, like miniature golf. I can understand bike rentals, but c'mon. -Amusing con, one of the goats in the petting zoo is extremely greedy. If you buy some of the feed to give the animals, he will stand up on the fence and wrap his head around the board and try to lick the feed out of the machine before you have a chance to give any to other goats. Helps to have another person with you to block either side of the machine to get the feed out. Also split the feed up between you and the other person so the poor other goats can have some too because the greedy one will butt the other's out of the way so he can have all of it. We call this goat, Phil the greedy b*st*rd. *! My opinion of Miggelenberg: -I like this park, regardless of my first bad experience there. I will probably continue to vacation here with my girlfriend so we can get away from her parent's house... at least until she gets a place of her own, but until then...

It far and away exceeded my hopes of finding good food in an area we knew little about. I enjoyed a lovely Trappist Beir. It was a wonderful start to the best meal I've had in 20 years of visiting the Nederlands. We shared the Duck Pate (Marbre van eendenbout, eendeniever, pruimenchutney, Aceto balsamico and brioche). It was fantastic. Absolutely Fantastic!!! Then we moved onto the Rump Steak with Frites (Dun gesneden rumpsteak van de houtskool BBQ, huisgemaakte frieten, seizoensgroenten en rodewijnsaus). The steak was excellent. Wonderfully tender with an outstanding sauce. To be totally honest though, the star of the meal though it was all perfect were the Frites. The absolute best frites I've had in all of Europe and the World. So crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Having the skin on set them so far above all the others with that added flavor I love from the skin. The meal is worth traveling 100 miles for. It will be a must go back to place for me on my next visit. Even if I have to rent a car and drive myself.
