Good Afghan food, yet the service can be much better. Forget about our orders, poured the wrong wine twice, and asked too early if we wanted to have the bill. read more

Having eaten it while sitting in the dirt in Afghanistan to places in San Francisco I'm pretty sure I've got a good idea of what I'm eating. With Bamiyan, this is easily one of the best Afghan places I've eaten at. The quality of food an service was outstanding and I enjoyed it all. The only negative is that menu is missing out on some of my favorite meals like bolloni and carayee. But I'll keep on going back and hoping they add it to the menu!

The Mahicheh (lamb chop) was absolutely tender and very delicious. They serve two types of rice, one with saffron and mulberries, the other with carrots and raisins - both done nicely. We had the mantu and mirzaghasemi as appetizers; both were good. We tried 3 of the kebabs too. Not bad, but strongly outplayed by the other dishes. They have a lovely house bread that one should not miss! The yoghurt-and-shallot side dish was excellent. I didn't like the house yoghurt soda much though. We had the walnut ice cream and the saffron ice cream for dessert. Both were prepared well and came in big portions. The cardamom tea and the mint tea were great. So we ended at a high. Overall, delicious meals and a very pleasant experience. I would definitely go back to have more Mahiche and try the stews.

It has 4.7/5 out of 620 reviews on trip advisor and 9.6/10 out of 936 reviews on the fork nl. I would give this place 10 stars out of 5 if I could. As shown in the photos, our favorites we would highly recommend are both the Chopan Salat and Mantoe for the appetizer, the Lunkho dish (if you like lamb this is one of the best lamb dishes I've ever had) for the entree, and the traditional Afghan milk pudding for dessert. Not pictured, but their house made lemonade is also fantastic and it made sparkling with mint (not too sweet). I initially found this restaurant on yelp and its high reviews and photos of the food caught my eye - I knew my father and I had to try it. We both cook and travel a lot (my father has been to 70 countries) and it was hands down one of the best meals my father and I have ever had anywhere. I did not take photos of the restaurant but the decor was absolutely beautiful as well as the traditional flute music they played at a perfect volume. The staff and the chef himself were all very kind and informative throughout the dining experience and went above and beyond to accommodate us. I will say come to this place with all your appetite because you will not be able to take your leftovers to go. The chef made an exception for us once and gave us one of their china plates with foil on top to allow us to take our leftovers to go since we did not know about the rule. Luckily we are staying close by and were able to return the plate because we wanted to return the above and beyond hospitality - the chef originally even told us to keep the plate! Food, service, and dining experience were all above and beyond. I am moving to Tilburg for a year for university and I will definitely be back multiple times.

This was a great place to try the cuisine for the first time, as the employees were so friendly and kind and had no problem explaining the dishes to us or making some dishes vegetarian. We had the 3 course menu (€27,50), which gave us the opportunity to try just about everything! There were many starters to whet our appetites. My favourite was a sort of meat dumpling served in a yogurt sauce, although the fried vegetables we got were made stellar with the spicy coriander sauce. The big rice dishes were served on beautiful plates and were so flavourful! They went well with the stews, and I think the lentil was my favourite. Normally I don't order dessert but seeing as it came with the menu, I at least had to give it a try. It was dried figs and other dried fruits, coconut ice cream, a delicate pudding, and mulberry ice cream. It was the perfect end to the meal, so refreshing! Now I have to find an Afghan restaurant this good back home..
