The sake is a great choice and pairing it with the Tuna tar tar was a great combo. The sushi chefs are exceptionally considerate in their preparations and I've yet to encounter fish here that wasn't fresh which is not at all the case on several other places I've tried in the area. At the end of the day I eat sushi more often than anything else and I travel extensively. Zen is easily on part or above most top end sushi place in terms of prep and clearly at the top of the list in Poland regarding ingredients... this isn't the fish market on Tokyo (where I ate last week) but for Europe it's great. Also be sure to check out their little Japanese runs upstairs. I didn't even realize they were there until yesterday. Wow... I just some people to do some private dining with... anyway enjoy this place. I will continue to.

I have visited Kraków multiple times during my time in Poland and typically when visiting Kazimierz…read moreI have to have a zapikanka, because they have the best in Kraków. But now, I have to have sushi when I go to Kazimierz. Youmiko Sushi was honestly a last minute decision made between friends for a place for dinner. Finding the restaurant is a little bit on the harder side, but that is typical in Kazimierz due to the somewhat narrow streets and crowded sidewalks. Upon entering the restaurant you're welcomed directly to the chefs working swiftly behind the bar. It may seem a bit crowded, but this may be due to the need for social distancing standards in place due to COVID-19. Our group arrived for our reservation at 18:30 (Making reservations is highly recommended!) consisting of two meat eaters and one vegetarian. We ordered the dinnertime tasting menu for 100zł and one 40zł menu for our vegetarian friend. The tasting menu was made in front of us at the bar by a very friendly chef who explained everything he was preparing for us and even explained to us their in-house rules on how rice cannot sit for more than 3 hours or it will not be used, or how there is never frozen fish and only fresh fish is brought in daily. Fresh fish definitely makes sushi. The sushi was fresh tasting and vibrant, there was no need for soy sauce or wasabi ever, even the vegetarian sushi prepared was delicious. I highly recommend Youmiko for its quality food and the entertainment supplied by the chefs.

When making the reservation, I wanted to have a nice table, and be sure that I was expected right after opening. The restaurant is tiny. With four small tables at the ground level, and a small room in the basement next to the restroom, it could be a crowded dining experience. The bar is too narrow with uncomfortable-looking seats to be an attractive option, at least for me. I was on time. I immediately noticed that the server had an attitude. She was nonchalant, and not particularly friendly. It was the opposite of any experience I'd had in any Japanese restaurant before. I chose the omakase, which has fourteen pieces / 7 courses. As I sipped a Sapporo beer, I was excited to sample what this place had to offer. The clubbing background tune wasn't the best choice for an early, hot and lazy afternoon. The first bite was the 'European Sea Bass Nigiri'. It was served with way too warm rice. When I picked it up it fell apart. Right after that I got a 'Seared Salmon Belly Nigiri', and again, I didn't like the rice at all. 'The Spicy Tuna Gunkan Maki' was tasty and refreshing. I also thought the 'Salmon Cake' was delightful. The 'Eggplant and Avocado', could be an excellent vegan choice. Next, three pieces of 'Salmon with Passion Fruit Hosomaki' were just fine. The last six pieces were 'Shrimp Tempura Futomaki'. It was very good, but I wouldn't expect that with any omakase. It was just too ordinary and nothing special, plus not what I would order in the first place. Perhaps my expectations were too high and anything other than omakase on the menu would have been more satisfying. Also their rice was a failure. I assume, coming right after opening wasn't the best idea. The price I paid was rather high considering Polish realities. Plus the quality of service didn't help to feel good about the whole experience. I tipped, but didn't hear even a little 'thank you' or anything when I was leaving the restaurant. I'm not planning to return anytime soon.

Nicely garnished on the dishes, then on the palate eventually!!! Actually quite sophisticated taste for the foodies!! Bon appetite! Let me tell you the dishes i tried were; as starters, hot soup (based on beef stock called yook-gae-jang (not the same spelling they have)), ma-gu-ro sashimi ( tuna sashimi), for sushi, soft shell crab was very tasty n we added a couple of pieces of fish eggs nigiro more, and if you like pan fried or sautéed sliced pork meat in spicy sauce with vegetables, you might taste je-yook-bok-um (the severs will help you). And there are jap-che like korean style pasta like made of sweet potato noodle, it is savory! Taste bul-go-gi sautéed thinly sliced marinated beef in a very tasty sauce based on soy sauce with garlic and lots of seasonings!! Bon voyage for the foodies in krakow. There is one more genji across from jagillenion university museum. And it is not that expensive ~ coz there are lots of choices you can afford.

A nice place to eat sushi…read more The restaurant is placed in Kazimierz in Kraków which is an interesting district of the city. When I firstly walked in I saw very little of space but then waitress took me to the "basement" which looked more like a wine cellar, first thing that got my attention was the smell, the smell of bricks, it wasn't so nice but the more time I spent there the less I could smell it so eventually it wasn't that bad. Although in my opinion interior style didn't fit well to Korean themes. Anyway, I felt good in there, tables were big which is a plus because me and my friends had enough place for our meals and drinks. A good idea was electronic bell placed on a table which you could use to call the waitress. If it was just a bit more discreet with the sound it would be great. Sushi that we had was "Genji big sushi set". It was served on a wooden boat. The set itself was pretty tasty, but rolls were too big I wasn't able to eat them on one bite and it was hard for me to dip them in the soy sauce. Speaking more about the taste of rolls, the ones in tempura were yummy af. Even though I'm an experienced chopstick user sometimes sushi was just falling apart. However I have to say, plum teas that we got were delicious.

The new interior looked beautiful in the photos, and I knew I had to check it out. It was a Sunday evening. Spontaneously, without any reservations, I decided to drop by Hana Sushi for a bite to eat and a drink. Well, the table I was offered was in one of the two back rooms, and there was nothing available in the renovated main dining area. It was a shame, because when I entered and left, I didn't see many customers. I craved a combo of 'roll & beer'. The expectations were high. Come on! It's a place recognized by Michelin Guide for six years. Finally, the food. The Rainbow Roll didn't impress. My local place serves better, also less expensive. Possibly, I just didn't like the taste of mayo and wished for thicker cuts of fish, or even slightly more rice (I can't believe I wrote that :). Besides, the presentation could have been more creative. Kirin Ichiban, a Japanese beer that turned out to be brewed in Germany, helped the whole experience along. It was light and refreshing, yet had a pleasant kick. Not sure what more to add right now. The restaurant felt very tidy and clean, kind of stiff. The choice of background techno music didn't help. Plus, I had to listen not so much to a conversation as to the monologue of a guy at the next table, who was trying hard to persuade two teenagers to talk to him. It was strange and awkward. He even commented on me taking photos, as if he thought I couldn't hear him, or that it wasn't bad style to interfere in other people's business :). The "patio room" is just a small glass cube. I'm sure Hana Sushi offers solid, great quality food, but I don't think I would be back soon to check this out. I just wasn't hooked.

The pad thai on the other hand was rather disappointing. The noodle was cooked in a wok that obviously lacks the necessary firepower. It failed to caramelize the sugar in the sauce, so the dish didn't acquire the characteristic taste. On the plus side the portion was large. Despite being unimpressed by the food, I had a positive experience at Tao overall. Firstly, that's because I got to drink a beer on a swing. Second, the beer showed up accompanied by a big bowl of wasabi peas--and I love wasabi peas. Third, there were bunnies in the garden. I'll definitely come back again another time and try something else on the menu. The ramen looks pretty good.

Inside I tend to sit (or rather kneel) at the low table in a nice little curtained-off "booth" overlooked by a buddha. The whole place is beautifully decorated and the calming music and efficient service will ensure you leave the restaurant calm and having achieved inner peace with yourself. The sushi here is fantastic. I usually opt for the 26 piece samurai set (there are cheaper lunchtime deals at an even more reasonable price). Desserts are nice. There is a green theme going on here, you can order such delights as green tiramisu, green creme brulee and green lemonade. If you're not into sushi there are other options, I quite enjoyed the ramen burger, a normal burger but with a bun made of noodles instead of bread. To sum up, I love this place.
