I had beef neck sous-vide with a lager. The beef was accompanied by a poached egg, bread dumplings, and a dill sauce. I was expecting something heavy, but it wasn't. It was really excellent. So fun to try new foods when traveling.

We ordered the beef cheeks, which were served cold (likely as intended but not what I was expecting). Flavor was fine but not great. The burger was also just okay. For something so standard, it was passable but not likely to order again. Our favorite dishes were 1) the duck and 2) potato and vegetable patties. Duck was crispy, hot, and had pretty good flavor! The vegetable patties were also crispy and balanced, slightly sweet. The beer list was limited but we liked what we ordered. Hate to be a broken record but we've had better while in the city. Wouldn't recommend this place to a friend since it was just average.

During the planning stage of our visit to Prague, I researched restaurants local to our hotel and…read morechose Mincovna in old town. Despite our reservation, the place seemed relatively empty. We are early diners and the only couple near us were also Americans on holiday. Our server spoke excellent English and guided us through the menu choices. After an appetizer of tomatoes and cucumbers in a light dressing, I ordered the sirloin in cream and my wife the trout filet. The food, like the service, was superb. Our server surprised us with a complimentary "shot" of a very strong Czeck liqueur at the end of the meal. we had a grand time and hope you will too!!

Nonetheless, I entered and hope for an escape from the unforgiving sun on that day. The staff seated me at one of the booths and after I requested some information explaining the menu and what's popular, they were more than happy to assist. They even explained some local etiquette and so on which was perfect for a visitor like myself. I decided to try out their Pickled Cheese as an appetizer. The cheese, paired with the onion salad and bagel was great. I really didn't know if I was eating it correctly but still delicious. For the main course, my waiter recommended a Schnitzel with potato salad. Just to get it out of the way, but the potato salad was almost better than anything I've had in the United States. I thought we were doing it right until I spent one day in Prague. The Schnitzel was also delicious. Perfect with the salad, the provided a blend of flavor and substance I desperately needed. All in all, this place was a great experience in Prague. The staff could not have been anymore nicer as I left with an itinerary on what to do during my time in Prague. The food and service were great. Don't be fooled by the location and stop by if you're in Old Square.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Restaurace U Marčanů in Veleslavín with my tour group, and…read moreit was an unforgettable experience! Not only do you get to experience traditional Czech food. You also get to do so while watching a Czech folklore dance show; furthermore, the service was impeccable, and the traditional Czech cuisine they serve is a true celebration of local flavors. We began with Zelníky, a delicious cabbage and ham stuffing. The blend of savory ham and tangy cabbage was a pretty tasty way to start the meal. For the main course, we had Špízy, a grilled chicken shish kabob, which was perfectly grilled and served with zelené fazole, (green beans), francouzské brambory (potatoes au gratin), and fresh chléb bread balls. The layered potato dish was especially delightful, creamy and well-seasoned. Probably my favorite part of the meal. For dessert we indulged in a heavenly palačinka se zmrzlinou, a light and delicate crêpe filled with rich chocolate and topped with smooth ice cream. It was the perfect sweet note to end the meal. And if that wasn't enough, the endless wine (red or white) was the cherry on top! Throughout the evening, our glasses were continuously refilled, and I may or may have left dinner slightly tipsy. Lol The food at Restaurace U Marčanů is truly authentic, and you can tell that a lot of love and care goes into every dish. Our entire group left satisfied, with full bellies and big smiles. If you're looking to experience the best of Czech cuisine, culture, and hospitality in a cozy, traditional setting, this is the place to go! Highly recommend to anyone visiting Veleslavín or the greater Prague area.

Short form: Go for the experience, not for the food. (The food would be a three star: not bad,…read morebut probably not worth the hike from where we were staying) This place is a favorite with large tour groups. In fact, we were the only non-group people in the restaurant, which led to some rather funny interactions with the staff. I'd say be sure to book ahead (we booked it through one of the "Things To Do in Prague" sites). The musicians did a "musical tribute" to each of the groups (US, Australia, India, Canada), though the Canadian music was "This Land is Your Land"... This was just a lot of fun. While I wouldn't make a special trip for the food (which was OK) or the drinks (ditto, but see note), the musicians and dancers were entertaining. They also had free dancing (waltzes and polkas) afterward; the main disappointment here was they didn't teach any of the traditional Czech dances. Food highlights: Czech food seems to be several variations on "meat-in-sauce-with-dumplings", and the food here was no exception; I'd say "solid". Dessert was a crepe with ice cream (pictures). "All you can drink" is included in the price, and while I suspect they'd cut someone off at some point, the wine steward was unstinting, coming around several times refilling the wine. Similarly with the beer. (The only thing they didn't refill automatically was the glass becherovka, a hard liquor that, according to Wikipedia, is about 70 proof with a "secret mix" of herbs...).
