They've always been helpful, professional, and pleasant to work with. Unfortunately, the overall living experience has been disappointing.
I've lived in apartments for approximately five years, and this is the first community where I've felt so restricted in my ability to comfortably enjoy my own home.
One of my biggest concerns is the apparent lack of sound insulation between apartments, particularly between floors. Noise seems to travel very easily throughout the building, to the point where everyday activities such as walking around can be heard in neighboring units.
I can regularly hear my upstairs neighbors walking and talking in their apartment. However, I understand that these are a normal part of apartment living. I recognize that the building's construction may contribute to how easily sound travels, and I would never expect my neighbors to stop moving around their own home simply because I can hear them.
Unfortunately, I haven't experienced that same level of understanding from my downstairs neighbor.
On one occasion, I had a guest over for the first time in several months. We weren't hosting a party, blasting music, or engaging in any disruptive activities. We were simply having a conversation in my kitchen when, around midnight, my downstairs neighbor came banging on my door, complaining about hearing our footsteps.
I've also previously received a noise warning for vacuuming around 9 p.m.
Most recently, management sent a community-wide notice reminding residents of quiet hours beginning at 10 p.m., specifically addressing loud conversations, music, and movies.
I completely understand and respect quiet hours, but there needs to be a reasonable distinction between excessive noise and normal everyday living.
I understand that loud parties, blasting music, and genuinely disruptive behavior should not be tolerated. However, when a building has such noticeable sound transmission between units, it seems unreasonable for residents to feel as though they cannot have conversations, watch movies at a reasonable volume, or simply walk around their apartments without worrying about complaints.
I pay over $1,200+ a month in rent, and I believe that comes with a reasonable expectation of being able to comfortably enjoy my home. I should be able to have occasional guests, hold conversations, watch television, and move around my apartment without constantly feeling like I'm doing something wrong.
Unfortunately, a beautiful apartment means very little when you don't feel comfortable simply living in it.
For these reasons, I will not be renewing my lease.
