I was a customer of Republic Services in the New Windsor area. In the beginning, the service was decent, but over time I discovered multiple hidden fees that were never clearly communicated. My bill increased from about $90 to $230 per quarter without explanation. When I decided to discontinue service, I was told there was a termination fee. I requested proof of an agreement showing that I had consented to the termination fee, but instead of providing documentation, they sent a demand letter stating I must pay or they would send the account to collections. Overall, my experience with Republic Services was disappointing -- unexpected charges, poor communication, and unhelpful customer service. I do not recommend Republic Services. read more

Republic does not tell you about pick up fees upon termination of services until after you have already signed up for services. Had to get the BBB involved to get the fees waved. read more

I was a customer in Westminster since 2007. I was being over charged for years by them. My one neigbor used Hughes and paid $90 quarterly. My other neighbor who uses Republic as well was paying $98 a quarter. His rate went up to $120+. He called in to complain and they gave him his $98 again. I was paying $168 a quarter for trash and recycling. I told them I am leaving unless they can do something. $15 credit is what they offered. Buyer beware. 9/22 I'm going to continue to update this each week that we don't get trash pick up, so every week from now on. We saw the truck go by this morning, picked up the neighbors trash but not ours again. Our trash cans have been out for hours. Will be calling the corporate office again as this is the only way we can get any service as the local office tells us our cans are not out. Sadly I have referred others to Republic Services thinking I had found a decent trash company. Boy was I wrong. Shortly after switching to Republic they began switching drivers around that ended up driving through our neighbors property looking for ours. Then several months in they started billing extra because the lids were up. I call and spoke with a customer service rep which two almost two hours on hold before getting someone. Told them I have NO intention to pay the overage. Still the invoice for the supposed overage comes. Try calling again and you sit on hold forever. They can come get their dumpster and I will go back to Waste Management where I had good service for over 20 years before taking the advice of a neighbor who said Republic was a good company to do business with. read more

This company keeps missing my trash pickups. It is almost once a month. They refuse to credit my bill for missed pickups, and half the time when they are supposed to come back to pick up the trash they do not. Very poor customer service. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

Worst customer service!! Did not pick up recycling from my street and each time I called, I was told "sorry no one is coming today", so my entire neighborhood has full bins outside for a week. Not once did a supervisor call me as I was promised. TERRIBLE SERVICE!! read more

After the situation last time, I was again unable to pay online, my rate was increased again and I finally decided to switch companies. I went with the local J&J and it was a smooth transition. Republic charges almost 2x as much for the same service, has rude customer "care" staff and made me wait for over an hour to cut my service and coordinate drop off for my trash can. read more

I'd give this zero stars if I could! I call to cancel when my bill has gone to 179.21 and 44.17 is fuel recovery? What the hell. Anyway they try to give me a better deal of 20$ off LOL um...NOPE. We have not had a good experience with Republic. We have had the service for about six months. They are more expensive than other companies out there. You are also locked into a 3 month contract at a time, and they will not let you out early if you wish to cancel the service. In the six months we had them, once they left half of the trash still in the can. It's spring, and hot in Maryland. Do I really want trash sitting in my garage for another week? Gross. They also reduced recycling pickup to every other week. This was extremely inconvenient for us as we produce more recycling than trash. When I called to complain, I was reminded that recycling pickup was free. Well, how nice of them to reduce their free service but still lock me in to a contract for trash that they will only remove when they feel like it. When I called to cancel, they asked me if I would stay if they reduced the rate. That is the most sketchy thing I have ever heard of and completely unethical. If you need trash pickup, find another company. read more

I've had issues with the recycling pickup ever since Republic bought out my old trash removal company - Carroll County Waste. I generate more recycling than trash and at least 50% of the time they pass my recycling by when they collect. I've called to report it and have been assured that they would be by to pick it up the next day. NOT! My regular pickup day is Thursday and it's still sitting in my driveway on Monday morning. If I could find another company that provides service on a pay as you throw basis, I'd change in a heartbeat. Buyer beware! read more

Found out for years I have been paying TWICE what my neighbors are paying for comparable, if not better service. In the past few months my containers had not been picked up on the regularly scheduled day and I had to contact them each time to report a missed pick-up. When I called to cancel my service I am told there is a $30 per container fee to pick up the trash and recycling containers I have been overpaying for over 10 years. Wasn't given it as an option, but found out we could take the containers back ourselves and save the charge, we will be doing that. I advise you to shop around if you have other options read more
