The hospital was originally named the Adelaide Military Hospital and was purpose built back in the 1940's to serve Australia's returning men and women after serving their duty during the war. It also served an army camp located on Springbank Rd for all medical needs. The services extended to family of those who served in the war as everyone had to cope with the trauma of war physically, mentally and emotionally, so they also assisted with psychological therapy as well as physiotherapy. Nowadays, it still continues to play an important part and has also extended its services to the general public. To go there is like going in amongst an army barracks as that was the style it was modelled on, it's all single story for easy access but it is a horizontal maze. The complex also houses a cafe and a gift shop. It basically offers a specialist service for various medical conditions and patients are accepted via a referral from a GP. The referrals are usually for people who do not have private health cover for treatment, and they do have excellent clinic and xray services for outpatients. I once actually managed to get a referral for some physiotherapy but once they learnt I had private health cover (despite the fact I was technically unemployed), I was dismissed from receiving any more treatment. read more
The Repatriation General Hospital Daw Park Adelaide, is an older style hospital with buildings added on, remodelled over the years. Which makes the place a little difficult to find your way around. I have had to attend their Out Patient Department over the past two years and have found the staff most helpful, attentive, and very professional. The Medical staff are highly specialised, giving me great confidence in the treatment I have received. Having a medical background and having visited over the years a large number of hospitals, finding this Hospital a pleasure to visit. read more

My name is Joelene and I am a 32yr old women with a beautiful 15yr old daughter. I have struggled through the last 10yrs with a series of health issues from rare autoimmune syndrome (Goodpastures Syndrome) which caused Kidney failure at just 22 and have been on dialysis since. I've always done my best to be positive and I've always kinda had my own little cheer team, between my family and amazing doctors and nurses. Last year was a rocky one though and to be honest I was ready to give up and let go but thanks to the Amazing team at BIRU, RAH and REPAT I'm proud to say my fighting spirit is back and I'm doing really well. You see April of last year I had a terrible turn on my daughters 15th birthday and ended up in hospital again with a headache like no other and blood pressure through the roof. Few days later I had a Cerebral Hemorrhagic (bleed on the back of my brain) which the doctors thought I would never recover. To top it off I also ended up with meningitis (infection to the brain) causing more brain damage than I already had. After 4mnths in hospital and multiple treatments I define all odds and not only started talking, feeding myself, showering ect which sounds easy but trust me wasn't. In August of last year I was finally ready to go home continuing my rehabilitation at REPAT, I still was using a walking frame being extremely unstable and weak in the legs after losing so much muscle mass. Now we are in March, 2017 and due to my Team of people from REPAT I'm not even using a walking stick. Pretty amazing considering the extent of my condition but of all people the staff at The REPAT team never gave up on me as did a few from RAH and BIRU. They gave me the nudge and support I so desperately needed. I will be forever great full as are my friends and family. Next month is a year from my injury and I will be starting my work up for my Transplant. Without all the support and coaching I really don't think I could of made it. Sincerely greatful for the support all round. read more
