Decided between here or bellevue college at the beginning of my 2nd college round in life. Rtc lost because of how unprofessional they handled my application. (5 yrs ago experience). The first issue I had was the phones kept ringing like no one wanted to answer them. Then they complained when they had to answer them. I set up multiple appts to get into a consular only to show up and the person wasn't there. Or because I was a mid 30 yr old at the time requested to leave because they thought I was out of place. After multiple attempts I finally got thru to the consular. They began to belittle my choices of technical degrees and started pushing them like it was a business. I'm sorry but since when do you have say in what I can and can not take? That would be their college pushing classes like a business instead of what the student wants to take. I had tons of credits from a couple other colleges and they said none of them would transfer in and I'd have to start fresh. Another money gimmick grab by the college. I had a clutter fuck mess issue when trying to take the placement test for english/math. I wondered over paid and came over to the testing center and I had set up an appt with them. The rep had belittled me and challenged me for even being there and complained about it. Twice I had to wonder back to the consular to inform them of the issue and he had to come over and yell at her to let me take it. That was another red flag. I had completed thru lvl 250 at bellevue college and their test was so poorly constructed that they said I would need remedial classes because they were not sure. Okay that's a red flag. I completed thru 98 (at the time) for math at bc and they said I'd have to start in remedial classes. I know I scored high on their test but something was fishy about it when they tried to place me in remedial classes. Yea that boosts my confidence as a could be student. As I tried to become an active student by the third red flag issue I decided to go to bellevue college. The rep said I needed to collect a ton of paper work so I did and came back. I repeatedly got requested to leave because my age deemed me "Out of place" and after the second time I told them look I'm trying to apply if you people do not want me here I shall not attend. You lost a could of been student that day. Over the years I have taken certificate classes/courses and never had this much of an issue with their college. But this was also back when it was a technical school not a college. When rtc became a college that's when it all changed into a clutter f* mess. Do not attend here. I price compared with bc and bc is about 30% cheaper than rtc. Don't believe me? Do the math. Parking is a bit of an issue with the campus. There's never enough parking and when I did my technical classes earlier in life parking was always full. I had to neighborhood park at your own risk and walk over or park at far end of camapus and walk over to the class area. read more

The parking was difficult, as there was a motorcycle class that closed off a big chunk of parking. So make sure you arrive early for events on the weekend, otherwise parking will be very far, and takes time to walk over. THe bathrooms are clean, the classroom is clean and has good air circulation if the windows are opened. The size of the rooms are good, and there's also an auditorium in building C as well. read more

Spending 3/4 of my semester (approximately equal to 3 qtr) at RTC learning computer networks. Honestly I did finish my training program but didn't move all the way through graduation. Mediocre counseling as how they crave paths for students. Fewer options for students who had flexibility and cannot attend class 5 days in a row. One thing I love is their library , small but fairly quiet . I am the kind of person who can't stand any noises and needs absolute peace. Glad I had a chance. However parking is very difficult during normal school hours. Only available spaces in the afternoon. Currently dropped off but I will probably going back to RTC to get my Associates Degree read more

I will say as a "professional student" , meaning I have taken class at about every college campus in three counties, this is by far the most difficult school. I will not make this as lengthy as I could, just hear me when I say "PLEASE DON'T!". I'm two quarters into this school and I'm done! I'm not speaking on behalf of the program students, but from the two quarters in the gen. ed. classes I feel like this is a joke. Not so much the teachers (although some are pretty lazy in my book), its the office staff people. From the cashiers to the Dean it sounds like no one is home. I've told my work that I truly believe no one works there...like no one! Every email and voice mail, unanswered. I can call 8 times a week and the kid who answers will just patch me through to a voicemail. Fellow students were dropped from classes because they do not know what to do with financial aid...in the FINANCIAL AID office!!! They bill you inaccurately, plus the fee's here are ridiculous considering this campuses is the poorest looking campus around. Its old, the heaters do not work, they have like one stall bathrooms...its bad. What I'm saying is you will not see where your money is going because you are not paying salaries to the invisible staff, and the appearance looks like it was abandoned awhile ago. Just do yourself a favor, if you are not attending a program here, choose some place else. I know classes are becoming hard to find that are not from 8a-12p, but its worth the search and wait. I'm upset I ever came here just because the amount of frustration I felt with this school. read more

DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL IF YOU WANT TO GRADUATE ANYTIME SOON. There are other school were you can get more for your money and not have to keep retaking a class because the school wants more money. Some of their classes are set up so that students will have to keep retaking the class over and over. The Dean and the Vice President do not do anything to help even though students have complained to them some how they end up loosing the other complaints and if/when you do complain they say "well this is the first time us hearing about this, we have never had this issue before." But the funny thing is you can just ask any student in the common area and you will find at least 5 that have the issue of having to retake their classes over and over again but once you transfer you pass your classes fine. Oh or my favorite when I spoke to the Dean before she even knew who I was and never asked who I was she insulted me and said "maybe you just have a learning disability" didn't even bother to investigate the class/ teacher just insulted me instead. I have been to other schools and transferred to this school because I had moved and have never had soooooooooooooooooooo many issues then I do with this school. Made a big mistake going here. Been trying to get in contact with Cashering to make a payment plan for classes since I'm out of state, nope. I understand they're busy but they don't understand that if 1 person or multiple have been trying the last month to get in contact it's hard. Renton Technical College - Colleges & Universities Near Me - Renton, Washington

The $30 non-refundable application fee ensures that anybody looking at a continuing education class will provide RTC some money even if the classes are canceled. I signed my girlfriend and me up for an evening Knife Skills class in Culinary Arts which amounted to about $520 total. Then I got a call a few weeks later that the class was canceled due to low enrollment, but my money would be refunded. It took about 7 weeks after that phone call for my card to be credited, and it was $60 less due to the application fee. I contested it, but they said it's their policy to charge this fee regardless of whether or not they offer the class(es). I'll be moving out of the neighborhood soon, so no more consideration of continuing ed classes at RTC for me. But they ensured they got their $60 from me with their smooth bait-and-switch class offerings. RTC may be a great school for full-time students in a career field, but if you're looking at continuing ed/evening classes be aware that they'll charge this fee even if you never set foot in a classroom. read more

Racist instructors and administrative staff. Wife (who is minority) attended classes and was continuously singled out for her accent, and the instructor let other students make fun of her speech. Upon complaining to the Tami Rable Associate Dean of Allied Health at Renton Technical College, she just said that it would be investigated but just basically tried to cover the college's ass and buried it. The instructor went so far as to pit other students against my wife, and allow them to bully her, but of course Tami could find no evidence of that occurring. Go figure. If you want to pay 3k for a quarter of the culinary program to teach yourself and have the chefs talk crap to you this is the one for you! If life happens and you have to miss a couple days in a rotation no worries they will fail you for that rotation and you can pay to do it again! This place is great if you're looking to waste a bunch of money to try to learn from chefs that dont know how to teach and dont properly ready you for tests that you have to pay for. This review is for the DENTAL SCHOOL. I'll just put this at the beginning for those who skim. YOUR TEETH ARE A VITAL PART OF YOUR OVERALL WELL-BEING. DO NOT RISK YOUR HEALTH BY GOING TO THE DENTAL SCHOOL. It was recommended by a former student who is now deeply embarrassed and ashamed. The dentists there are either angry misogynists (see Kefgen) or wholly incompetent (creepy Chinese man who wears badly-applied foundation/Chinese woman who wandered around hopelessly, then hid behind a cupboard.) They gave me a crown, which seemed ok, but at a savings of only $100 vs a regular dentist, not worth the time and trouble. (Plan for any procedure to take TRIPLE the regular time. The students are great and they all try their very best, but very thorough and slow. Even a cleaning took three hours and I left before they put on fluoride.) The problem was multiple dentists couldn't get my mouth guard to fit after the crown was put on and they refused to replace it without charging me extra fees. They even borrowed it for a week and supposedly sent it to a lab and it no longer fits. I've only had this mouth guard for two years. I wore my previous one for NINE YEARS. I have FOUR cracked molars because I grind in my sleep and I'm now in danger of losing one that is cracking more every night because the "dentists" there are performing what I can only assume is COURT-MANDATED PUBLIC SERVICE. I am also in A LOT OF PAIN ALL DAY, EVERY DAY and painkillers don't help. I take four Advil at a time: no effect. I am considering suing the school because I have a very solid case and it is only $25 to file. I feel confident I will win. Emails and phone calls with the managers went nowhere and the dean ignored me. YOUR TEETH ARE A VITAL PART OF YOUR OVERALL WELL-BEING. I am actually very pleased with this school so far. Although I am only working on getting my GED this semester. Next semester i will be attending regular classes. The cafeteria is pretty nice. The food is cheap since the students make it. And there is a bakery, which is awesome. The campus is well maintained and the bathrooms are clean and stocked. Hopefully the teachers will be just as great next semester. read more

I can't speak for all of the programs. However, my experience in the Math and Biology department was poor. The Biology class when taught by Sara and Cherl are horrible. The fail rate of both professors are nearly half of the class. Many students end up taking Biology classes 2 to 3 times before they can pass. The Math program is just as bad. All the students regardless of level learn from Kahn university and some online program. The students are completely on their own. If they are having difficulty than they must get tutoring or support from home. Okay, so then why would anyone pay RTC. If you already know the material and just need an official grade then it is good route because you get an 4.0 for completing the class. For those who are learning, it takes 2 to 3 times before they can pass. The Dean also mentioned when the students brought up their concerns that they are Africans. Therefore, they don't understand English. When I personally wrote her, she stated that her program was the most successful in the state. Based on the feedback from other students, I find this hard to believe. read more

I attended this school back in 2005 for Running Start to complete my HS diploma. At that time I enjoyed my time on campus, the school was neat organized and a wholesome learning environment that focused on the program(s) of study and favored responsible adults who were self driven and provided the opportunity to excel. Now after several years I have returned to take a course in Refrigeration Technology which has outstanding instructors, a finely tuned and driven curriculum that not only challenges the mind but ingrains the subject matter of the coursework and skills that will be used on the job. I give the specific program and Instructors of my program 5 stars hands down. For those who are looking into this school here are some factors you should be aware of, main administration faculty staff and employees here are a story of their own. I would give 1 to 2 stars for anything outside of my course of study. If you are in need of financial aid, as many are, start the process to obtain Financial Aid 2-4 months in advance of staring your coursework as the financial aid office is incredible slow and not very efficient at their jobs. Margo and the other lady in office adjacent to her office are the only two in there that seem to have a sense of responsibility and work with a purpose. Onto another caution factor of this school's administration. They do not care about you, they simply want your money. The unethical behavior of the administrators is like a viral disease and has spread throughout the school. At the start of the quarter when I began my coursework we were informed by instructor that there is a new class we are required to take and is completely unrelated to the curriculum of our course of study. Not only were we blindsided by this new course and expected to pay $300+ in tuition but also for books as well which is a $75 text book. The name of this course is college success 101 and is 3 credits. It is a class that is good for kids coming out of High School. That's it. We are foced to take class even if we had prior college experience and degrees. The way this was forced upon the student body was not only unethical but it was illegal. The school added the course at 16:45 (4:45 pm) the day before the quarter started with no kind of heads up for students. The college has a tendancy to make decisions and tell nobody about what they are doing until it's already enacted. The last outrage of this situation was they would not let you have your certificate and/or degree if you didn't complete and pass said course. They held your graduation and Certificate/Degree hostage in other words to force dictatorial control over the students here. Those who give good reviews are likely only speaking of their coursework or were not victim to the attrocious actions of the administration faculty. I give three stars due to the criminal and unethical conduct of the school and not giving students the option to take unrelated courses and also giving them time to financially prepare themselves. If we were talking about the instructors and classwork it would be a 5 star rating. There are a few instructors here that are bad apples, but overall Instructors and coursework are top notch. I have served in the Army and been in managerial position at last job. efore attending here, I know how things are supposed to operate and function properly. There is unethical behavior everywhere, but this level is beyond normal. I would reccomend for the training vocation education and experience but going in understand there is a lot of bull crap you will have to deal with. read more

GRRREAT MASSAGE! I got a massage here in their student massage clinic a couple days ago from Row, and it was amazing! I have to be honest though, the location where i filled out paperwork was very "classroom-y," it didn't look much like a clinic at all. But I was happily surprised after doing my health intake form, when Row took me into the actual clinic space. The massage room was sectioned off by dividers, like those you would see in a hospital. And it had this awesome 'learning environment feel' to it. I walked in understanding that this was going to be a student massage, so it would be a bit noisier and less 'frou-frou' than an actual spa. Which was fine with me. Row made me feel very comfortable and safe and the massage was amazing! I can tell just from her style that the instructors here do a great job at educating their students. I'll definitely be back to see what other styles other students have as well! read more

I really like this school and all the resources/programs thy have! There's a wide variety of programs to take, they really have something for almost everyone. All of the staff that i have encountered have been extremely nice and helpful and have gone out of their way to help me! The teachers that I've had are good and thorough. I went here to get my Nursing Assistant Certification, and their program was the shortest and cheapest out of all the ones in the area that i looked into. I like that the classes were taught by RN's, so i really felt like they knew their information. It was really hands on and it prepared me really well for a real CNA job! read more

Absolutely the worse experience in my college education. Three weeks into class we have spent multiple Days with teachers being pulled out of class for meetings leaving us for hours with no instruction. We can do what we like to study. What????? Then one teacher is pulled two and a half weeks into a 5 weeks program because of classroom #. Then leaving us with no teacher and no instruction. The students are the ones that are being impacted by poor decisions of leadership. We are the ones that may not finish because of this political bull. I will never come back or recommend the program to anyone! read more

This review is for the culinary program- or at least the cafeteria, bakery etc. that the general public can access. We were visiting family in the area and were checking out what there was to see in Renton. We were done at the Jimi Hendrix memorial and I looked on Yelp to see where there was to eat for lunch nearby. Hmmmm, a culinary program at a nearby college... sounds fun. And it was. The fancy place had just shut down, but we managed to grab a tray at the cafeteria. The food was pretty good, or very good for the price. A large plate with meat and veg was in the $5 range. Then we found the bakery. It so happened they had napoleans filled with heavy cream. This is one of my all time favorites, and hard to find (usually they have custard in most bakeries.) I used to get these as a kid from Wilson's Bakery in Santa Clara (now defunct.) in any case they were supposed to be about $1/each but the guy told the cashier half price because they were a little "over cooked." I got half a dozen of them and they were the best I'd had since childhood. We also got a cherry pie- it was cheap too- maybe $8? Wish I lived nearby! read more

Where do I even begin to start? I signed up for school a while ago, to choose a career and help me move forward in my life. I joined the medical office procedures program. I had no idea what to expect and I had heard good things about the school in the past so I figured it would be a safe bet. Let me tell you now............DO NOT ATTEND THIS COLLEGE. all they are out for is the money and how they can get out of you in your time there. The main program teacher when I started there "we were told" was busy helping implement a new system at a hospital nearby and she would be rejoining us in the next few quarters. None of us know exactly what we are going to learn so we figure okay no big deal as long as we get what we pay for. NO. they had substitutes for almost EVERY single class in this program. Only twp of the original teachers were their and one left after the first quarter and gave all her students A plus across the board. One of the substitutes and I quote told me " when you go to an interview rent a designer handbag so you look like you belong." I was almost called cheeky by this same substitute and one of my fellow classmates was called a bitch. I ran into many more substitutes in my 2 year time span in this program, I would show up for an 8 hour day at school and as soon as I walk into class was told "I have nothing for you today go home" , also the same teacher combined a 4 hour class of two different subjects mashed all the work together never told us what any of it was for and never explained anything. come to find out later from the dean that combining classes is illegal. In these classes that we learned nothing we all got straight A's so it appeared at though we were learning something when in fact we were not. All along bringing it up to the dean of the program and basically being patted on the head and told to be quite you payed the money but its up to us if we will give you an education or not. Another sub would fall asleep in front of the class. We finally after the first quarter told the dean of the program we feel like we are not getting what we payed for and signed up for when we entered into school here concerned that we were not learning anything. the dean told us to basically suck it up and come talk to her later if there were more problems. Finally about the fourth quarter the HEAD of the program comes back. We had all heard things about her from the upper class men and knew she would be a tough teacher but figured she would be fair and get us back on track. That did not happen. She was giving us things that we could not figure out and we did not know, and we had nothing to fall back on because our previous teachers would send us home without teaching anything. We basically had a class meeting and told her we cannot do the work you are giving us the people they had in here as subs did not do their job, she graciously decided ok I need to back up with these people and teach them the right way. Now mind you this quarter we had two different classes with her so she decided she would combine the classes, we were very nervous to do this because of what happened previously and we did not learn anything. But we figured she is the head of the program she knows what she is doing lets give this a try. So at the end of the quarter this teacher called a meeting with all the program teachers and the dean of the program with out class, they than informed us since we combined a class we were going to get a Incomplete in one of those classes because we had not addressed the other class fully enough. Now I ask you? is it a students job to tell the teacher when and how to run a classroom and what she should be teaching? Well the head of the program seemed to think so. She even thought it so much that she would go on to yell at three of the students, later that meeting, that if we did not sign the incomplete form and take the I that we wouldn't be able to move forward in the program. I was literally SCREAMED at by a teacher who was threatening me to sign a piece of paper without reading it first. So after this blowout and being yelled at we decided okay the higher ups in the school need to know what exactly is going on in this program it was brought to their attention so we returned for the next quarter being told that the problems had been fixed had been come to. we had no idea their idea of "fixed" meant literally moving our cohort of students to the farthest building away on campus from where our entire program was and we were given a new teacher. We had hope. This hope was quickly stamped out by another quarter of learning ABSOLUTELY nothing. The teacher would have much rather talked about where she grew up, the duck she owned, and animals she wanted to save. At the end we discovered this school LIED about the money we owed them, and stole from finical aid(the government), and tried to tell us we were in the wrong for wanting the education we payed for. Absolute waste of my time. Not only was the career councilor Jane X completely unhelpful, but she showed little to no interest in signing me up for any classes. And she showed it by not taking me into her office to discuss the options, but she didn't bother to ask about my background, any degrees I have, etc. She seemed more interested in discouraging me from trying for the classes I was set on then helping me into them. And, none of the classes I wanted were going to be available until September, of NEXT year. Needless to say, I will be taking my hard earned GI Bill somewhere a bit more interested in furthering my education. read more

Affordable technical school. Teachers are knowledgeable. Class sizes small. Parking is tight if you don't mind walking you can park at the far side of campus.
