More times than not the rental car people are rude, seem bothered and generally act like they have the worst job in the world. I shouldn't have even given this a 1 star, but because our car was ready for us when we arrived to…read morethe Erie Airport, that's a positive. We did all the check in process stuff and they just sent us to the parking lot to search for our space number. No one came out to look over the car or show us where to find the car. We got in the car and were instantly greeted with the scent of pot. We don't do drugs, so that was horrible. We figured we would see if the smell would go away overnight, and if not, we were close enough to stop back the next day. We got to our Air B&B and when we got out, we noticed the rims were extremely damaged- not by us. We took pictures to show, and decided to go back the next day. When we arrived, no one was at the counter. We had to ask Enterprise to contact someone. About 20-25 minutes passed and finally someone came in. The man was apologetic and said he would call me or text me that night as another car was coming in. He said I could pick it up either that night or when it was convenient for me the next day. We were visiting for a wedding, so I told him I could get it before noon the next day. Well, I never got a call, text, or email from said employee. Said employee never checked the damaged rims. Seemed like what we were talking about was completely normal, and to us it is not. I drove a crappy car that shouldn't be in the fleet around all weekend. The pot smell was so overwhelming, when we opened the doors everyone could smell it. When we arrived back to the airport to return the car, no one was there. You are supposed to write your info down for mileage, but no pens/pencils are even available. We will never rent from Hertz again, nor recommend the Hertz at the Erie airport. Unreliable. Unprofessional.

It is with dismay that I must take my business elsewhere. I made a recent rental in Erie,…read morePennsylvania only to arrive on an American Airline flight to find no car. I had made the reservation two months earlier. When I called the "Customer Support" number I was told, "Sorry there is nothing we can do for you." When I asked to speak to a supervisor I received the same response. I rent over 40 days a year with National and you could care less that you stranded me and my wife at the airport. I walked to the Avis counter and found myself a car, and while I was there signed up for their preferred program, and will take all of my business to them. It is sad that your "customer service" is not really service at all. It would have been easy for you to arrange a car for me had you cared about the situation you placed me and my wife in. Your lack of caring, your lake of response to multiple phone calls, and your overall lack of customer service has cost you my business. I am only one person, but I suspect there are many more out there that you have shown the same lack of concern towards. In a service industry, customer service should be the focus of what you do; rather you choose to ignore customers who you have put in bad situations. It is for this reason I happily take my business elsewhere.

When I realized…read moreour car was working on a wheel bearing I simply made a reservation with a nearby Enterprise. Immediately I was uncomfortable because there was no way I could find to speak to the local counter. The agent abroad who took my reservation was very nice and answered all my questions, unfortunately what was happening at our local agency on State St. in Erie PA. was not the same as she was telling me. When we arrived they had no car for us, and tried to give our family a truck for our road trip, not acceptable as I didn't know how tight parking would be at the hospital. We left, driving to the next closest rental agency (who had no cars available) before stopping back. While we were gone a car came in, saving the day! So we began the rental process again only to find out they would not be open the following day for our return and we would be destined to pay an additional 3 days because they would be closed for the holiday. By this time we had literally minutes to leave and make our appointment, so I began frantically calling other rental agencies, none of which had a car available due to the holiday. Had I been able to SPEAK TO A LOCAL AGENT IN THE FIRST PLACE I would have simply called another agency and reserved a car ahead of time. We were instead forced to cancel the appointment at the last minute. Speaking to the local agency is a super way to communicate things like the size of vehicle required, and "Oh, by the way, we'll be closed when you come back". This was not my first time with Enterprise, but it will be my last. From now on if I cannot speak to an agent at my local branch I will not make a reservation, and I encourage you to do the same.
