Spilled sour old milk (damn you messy room mate, who doesn't empty milk cartons before throwing…read morethem away!), whilst kindly taking out the thrash, all over a wool and leather coat. Solution? Getting it dry cleaned at the nearest possible place. Seemed like I had a very special coat that needed very special attention to be cleaned properly (have later lost all patience and ability to get it dry-cleaned again and washed and shrunk it in the machine at home), so the nice lady at the dry-cleaners told me they had to send it away to a special place. I thought I was already at that special place, but didn't argue. I was told to come get my coat in three weeks (!). This seemed excessive to me, but was ok. When I came to get my coat after three weeks, I had lost my ticket (I'm a mess) and they couldn't find the coat. I was told to look for it myself in-between a thousand other coats, which was kind of a mess too, but at least I got to try the thing you put your foot on that makes the coats spin on a merry-go-round like thing. Kinda fun. Anyway, they were closing and I was told to come back. Having lost all hope of ever getting my coat back, they had luckily found it when I returned the next day. It was clean, but the leathery parts were very stiff. An ok result, I guess. The price was a bit steep, at 350-something DKK, so I might try a different dry-cleaner the next time I spill something... But then again, my coat is very special.

After grabbing some pastries to go at Juno, we stopped my the cafe for some food. It was starting to rain, so this stop came at a perfect time! The cafe has plenty of seating outside, with a long bench and small tables and chairs. The cafe puts out blankets to make sitting there more enjoyable. We ended up sitting inside just because of the rain, even though the outdoor portion does have a bit of a cover from the awning. Inside, there are more tables than you would think! We chose one by an open window to have a bit of a breeze. The menu is stocked with everything you would need. Service was quick, too. We also thought it was neat that the cafe functions as an actual laundromat, as well. There are 3 sets of washer/dryers in the back near the 2 restrooms. Also, there is free WiFi, making this a cute WFH spot. As for the food, it was pretty good! No complaints from me there. The pancakes were unique with the bacon, banana, and peanut butter.

We were surprised to learn that this is both a laundromat and a cafe; they have some laundry machines in the back of the cafe by the restrooms! The decor inside is cute with lots of posters and books and quirky items around. The outdoor seating has blankets to make you more comfortable, as well. We ordered some coffees, orange juice, yogurt, avocado toast, spinach omelette, and Elvis pancakes. Everything was excellent and very tasty. The peanut butter on the pancakes was a great addition, the yogurt was full of fruit and granola, the omelette had a good amount of pesto, and the avocado toast was piled high with ingredients. The orange juice was fresh and tasted great. I'm so happy we walked by this place! Definitely recommend it if you're in the area looking for a meal.

Has anybody here seen Can't Buy Me Love? You know the part where Cindy Mancini goes to that party…read morewearing the perfect silk outfit she "borrowed" from her mom and then some douchebag spills wine on it and the dry cleaner says it's going to cost a thousand dollars to get the stain out? My experience at Alaska Vask & Rens was nothing like that. Except for the stain part. And the silk part. Here's how it went. Had a party to celebrate my 30th birthday. Had this killer silk dress on (yes, it had pockets). Went to wash a couple dishes. Kitchen faucet had unpredictable water pressure and BAM, just like that, grease stains all over my awesome silk dress. Happy Birthday Indeed. I get a discount on dry cleaning through my company if I am willing to abandon my belongings in the basement of our building and trust they'll come back eventually. I simply was not willing to take the risk this time. And so I found myself standing in Alaska Vask & Rens, justifying that it must be good if it's named after a state as beautiful as Alaska, probably with a pretty pathetic look of desperation on my face. I begged for them to try hard to remove the stains, and then bid godspeed to my silk and hoped for the best. Listen you guys. Not only did the brave strong men of Alaska Vask & Rens get rid of the grease stains, they also got rid of some discoloration that had happened after a moisture incident while traveling in my suitcase a couple months ago. How thrilled am I? Pretty freakin' thrilled. Moral of the story? I realize people rarely travel out of their way for dry cleaning. I don't either. But if you live in the area, and have some stained shirts or something, I HIGHLY recommend these guys.

We stumbled past the storefront while walking on a food tour or Reykjavik (something you MUST try), and the exterior was so inviting that we made a note that we needed to return. The inside is fun and vibrant. The ROYGBIV bookshelf bar counter is pleasing to the eyes, and the jet red chairs and chairs and lamp shades give a vibe of a cozy yet trendy coffee shop. The food was incredible and was affordable. You should definitely try one of the local beers. I'm not lying when I say, Iceland Beer is some of the best beer I have ever had, and I'm bummed you can't find it in the states. Viking beer was my absolute favorite. This location was very welcoming and the staff extremely hospitable. It's also located in the heart of Reykjavik. It's a must try place if you find yourself in the land of Fire & Ice! Cheers!!

I get extremely paranoid when traveling about running out of clean clothes. So a few days into our stay in Scandinavia, I was already looking to clean some clothes. After some research on "montvask " places in Copenhagen, I found the Laundromat cafe. The guy was nice to instruct on the use of the machine. It only takes 10 DKK coins and the soap comes out of the machine so I was relieved because I did not bring any detergent. The cashier was nice to give me change. The wash is 50 DKK and the dry cycle was 10 DKK for 7 minutes. I had a small load and it is a huge dryer so it took my clothes only 7 minutes to dry anyways. While waiting for the laundry to finish, you can sit inside and enjoy the free internet. Or you can eat in the cafe. We did not try the food as I wanted to try next door's food which I bookmarked via Yelp. There are also boutique shops to peruse while waiting for your laundry.
