I believe there are tours available on Saturdays, but it was closed upon my excursion. After walking around, taking in the historical aura, I walked into Trinity Park as well as paid a visit to the Will Rogers area. I was so impressed with the informational markers on site, I willl make it a point to come back for a tour. Maybe the guides will be dressed in era appropriate attire. Anyway, don't miss out on learning one of the pillars of Fort Worth.

In driving to the cemetery, I found a beautiful piece of property stretched before me. There were plenty of memorials to peruse. I quickly found what I was looking for and stood in awe and wonder. Before heading out, I milled around for a bit. Utterly fascinating! The cemetery grounds were well-maintained and clean. I would definitely visit again.

If you are heading to Granbury, down 377, it's an easy detour to visit Elizabeth Crockett's, second wife of Davey Crockett (Yes, that Davy Crockett), grave site. You'll come to road # 167, a traffic light, and a sign indicating a left to get to Acton. It's just a few miles down the road, on the right (no further turns required to get there). Once there, the grave is easy to spot, thanks to the large white column, with Mary on top (looking west, waiting for Davy to come home). I didn't have time to explore the whole cemetery, but it might be worth a closer look next time. Looks rather historic. If it's Saturday, between 12 and 3PM, you can check out Revolver Brewing ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/revolver-brewing-granbury ). Tasty beer and a nice venue. There's usually live music and a food truck too! If you are on your way to Granbury, instead of going all the way back to 377, you can make a left in Acton, at the first light, onto Acton Hwy, and that will take you to back to 377. At this intersection is the HEB and Kroger Market Place. Oh, and if you're hungry and wanting BBQ, I'd suggest making a left, where Acton Hwy forks (on my alt route back to 377), and check out the RibShack ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/ribshack-granbury-2 ). It's very good, but closed Sunday and Monday. Bottom line: There's quite a bit of history down 377.

Re: ELLIS County Red Oak Police Department…read more Yesterday, I called the non-emergency hotline to report what I believed was an abandoned car that had been parked in front of my house for three days. An officer came out and informed me that the vehicle belonged to a neighbor. He also stated that they didn't have to move it because it was parked the required distance from the road. When I asked whose car it was, he said he couldn't share that information--which I understand. I had assumed the car was abandoned because it was blocking my driveway and no one had returned to move it in 3 days. While I realize the road is public property, I felt the officer could have at least encouraged the neighbor to be more considerate and move their car as a courtesy. Our road is narrow, and it's difficult to get out of my driveway when cars are parked that way. Since the officer made it clear they didn't have to move the car, I decided to speak with the neighbor myself since this is not acceptable. Fortunately, we were able to resolve the issue directly to have the car moved. Situations like this are exactly why people end up taking matters into their own hands. The interaction with me and my neighbor could have resulted in a situation that could have become volatile. However, this experience left me feeling that calling the police was useless and unhelpful--I don't plan on calling them again. It seems they have quite a few racist complaints but you have to dig for them because they do not allow complaints on google or etc.

Was used after 1854 start of Camp Henderson (named for land owner-townsite donor) for decisive public meetings. In 1867 Camp Henderson became county seat. Then men at 4th of July picnic here named town "Cleburne", for Civil War commander of many local veterans." Cleburne is the seat of Johnson County and it was formally incorporated in 1871. The city was primarily an agricultural center and county seat until the Santa Fe Railroad opened a major facility there in 1898. Isham is a historic six-acre community cemetery established in 1870 and located in east Fort Worth…read more One of the oldest graves dates back to 1885. The following is posted on the historical marker: The Rev. W. Marion Isham (1831-1904) and his family came to Tarrant County from Georgia about 1870. Soon after arriving in the area Isham donated a one-acre plot of land to be used for a community cemetery. The oldest remaining legible grave marker here is that of N. L. Sweet (1824-1870). Although earlier burials are documented by plain sandstone markers. Approximately five acres were added to the graveyard in 1941. Still, in operation as a community burial ground, the historic graveyard is maintained by the Isham Cemetery Association. Info on Rev Isham was taken from the association's website: Reverend Washington Marion Isham was born in 1831 in Everett Springs, Georgia. He fought in the United States Civil War for the Confederate Army in the 65th Regiment of the Georgia Infantry and eventually earned the title of Sergeant. He married Rosamond Brewer on September 2, 1852 in Calhoun, Georgia. After arriving in Texas, he founded the Isham Chapel Methodist Protestant Church which included eleven charter members. W. Marion died in 1904 in Ederville, Texas at the age of 72. The Isham Chapel congregation increased in size over the years and in 1952 was relocated to Hurst, TX. It is now known as the First United Methodist Church of Hurst. Info on burial plots : Spaces are not purchased but are reserved by families with burial eligibility. A right to burial is open exclusively to anyone who has a blood lineage to an immediate family member buried in the cemetery. I mostly come here for some peace and reflection but mostly playing pogo! I can be here alone and just focus on the sounds around me. Across the street from there is a horse farm and you can see the pretty horses galloping in the breeze~ There is a gravel trail that loops around the historical marker where the gym is placed so you never have to leave your car to get the gym signal. The gate is open all the time, I never been where its been closed. Usually, I am the only one in there but maybe twice I seen or encounter other humans visiting or doing some shady business. The older graves are in the middle of the loop and that is where more of the trees are concentrated at. There are other trees further down but no graves are located near them.

Johnson County is named for Middleton T. Johnson (1810-1866), native of South Carolina for 7 terms…read morean Alabama legislator, and a leading Texan after 1840. He served in the 9th Texas Legislature, Texas Rangers, Mexican War, and Civil War. The county was created and organized 1854, from land earlier in counties of Ellis, Hill and Navarro. I spent a week in Cleburne, which the county seat of Johnson County and visited downtown a couple of times. The courthouse here is visible from a good few miles away and this historical marker is located outside the courthouse, which is where I saw it and photographed it. This marker stands in front of the impressive and historic courthouse in downtown Cleburne. It reads, "Organized in 1854, Johnson County located its seat of government in Wardville and Buchanan before moving in 1867 to Camp Henderson, which later became Cleburne. The Buchanan Courthouse was moved to the new county seat and used until 1869, when the county constructed a new two-story brick building. By 1880, that facility had become too small, and three years later a magnificent second empire courthouse, designed by W.C. Dodson, took its place." "Fire destroyed Dodson's 1883 building on April 15, 1912, and the commissioners court chose German-born Otto Lane (1864-1947) and Welshman Frank Witchell (1879-1958) to design their new house of justice. While many firms of the time were designing Beaux Arts or Late Victorian structures, Land and Witchell were fond of the increasingly popular Prairie School style as inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan. Johnson County courthouse drawings are attributed to architect Charles E. Barglebraugh, the project architect for Lang and Witchell who trained under Wright."
