Non-functioning air runner with a cone on it for weeks now
Sofia T.

COACHING: 5 stars for most coaches, their energy, and music. 6 stars for Courtney, Safi, Matt, and Amar! PROGRAMMING: 4 stars; I did weight training for a number of years so I feel I am pretty strong, but Tuesdays and Thursdays are focused on shoulders and biceps and the bicep work is excessive for most women. EQUIPMENT: 2 stars. Machines can take weeks to be repaired. Currently, the screen on multiple machines turns on but it doesn't actually track calories or distance. I reset the workout on the screen before I start and some machines will say I am running at a sub 4-minute mile pace. I might be fast but I'm not that fast. SENSE OF COMMUNITY: 1 Star. Simply put, there is no sense of community unless you count putting your first in the air and saying "work!" together after class. I've never been to another fitness studio where there are a dozen people waiting for a class in the lobby and nobody talks or interacts. There are different ways to get folks to talk to one another but that starts with the ownership and how they cultivate that. Be aware of their business model that makes them a ton of money: $99/month is great, but it's $15 for each "late cancellation." Late cancellation is cancelling your class less than 8 hours BEFORE it starts. So if something comes up with work, kids, etc. and you cancel 7 1/2 hours BEFORE your class starts, you are automatically charged $15. This rule is absurd and insensitive to the fact that life happens and people have extenuating circumstances. Renegade invests in a sales team to get you signed up. I was contacted several times within two weeks of visiting. Meanwhile, since I have joined and reached out to them, I get a delayed response or no response at all. Overall, Renegade ownership seems to care most about your money & their reviews. I'd stay for the coaches and workouts most days but I can't support a business that demonstrates (through their "late" cancellation policy and lack of responsiveness) it doesn't care whatsoever about its members.

This is quite honestly the best boutique fitness studio that I have ever discovered after literally trying every single studio in San Diego (that has multiple locations, not stand-alone ones)! I started going to Renegade back in March of this year when I was studio shopping in addition to also going to a regular gym, and 8 months later I'm still going 1-2x a week in addition to my regular routine! This combination of bootcamp style/CrossFit/PT is exactly what I need as I am a skinnier individual and want to get stronger but also want to push my cardiovascular ability which I don't find myself doing as much when I'm doing my regular gym workouts. I started going to Renegade UTC and would come for  Victoria's classes all the time because I worked with her at a previous gym, and she always absolutely killed me in the workouts by making sure I went heavier, bringing me extra weights. I've taken Tyler, Santana and Zander since then and they all have their different styles but always give me an absolute great workout. Now that I've moved down to South SD, I go to North Park now and make it out for Amar's classes, who is a beast! All the instructors are great and know exactly what they're doing. If you're looking for a studio where the instructors truly look and explain like amazing athletes, this place is for you. The WOD is written on the board, so it's easy to follow, they also explain and demo 10 minutes before the workout starts so if you're a beginner, you can rest assured they will teach you. I do have to say that this studio has a population that I think are some of the fittest people I've worked out next to compared to other studios (even F45, Barry's), so I think it speaks volumes to how people are progressing here! If you're new to working out, they definitely come around and fix form, and if you're only a cardio person, find peace that 1/3 of the work out you'll already know how to rock! (13 minutes of cardio on tread/assault bike). The studios themselves are beautiful when you walk in! It's true that the focus really is on the WORKOUT, so there isn't much cutesy front desk items, but I think that is what separates Renegade from other studios - this one is TRULY about fitness and pushing people to see real results, not any of that fluff stuff. Community is also what makes the hour visits so worth it. No other studio I know has members/coaches who I see become close to each other. I'm sad to say I'll be moving to SF soon but will continue being a part of the Renegade fam for as long as I can! (Expand to SF!!!!! ;))

Best gym in SD! Amazing high quality equipment but even better personality. Will definitely come back, kam and ant are really nice!

Legs/Back/Biceps with my girl Angel! Her first time and she killed it!!! Amar is one of my favorite coaches here!

Monday evening with Amar (Legs, Back & Biceps) was KILLER! I consider myself a fitness fanatic & have gone to various workout facilities around San Diego & I always come back to Renegade. I teach dance & fitness myself so truly appreciate the high level of workouts and customer service I receive as a client every time I workout here. The North Park location is by far my favorite for multiple reasons. -Location - Close to 805 freeway on/off ramps. Close to my apt so convenient! -They're on ClassPass!! -It's CLEAN. Plenty of spray bottles, wipes & hand sanitizer around. -Plenty of SPACE! Especially when you're on the Turf section, I don't feel like I'm laying on my back looking up at someone in the Racks. Other locations are super tight & it's fine, BUT I prefer a little more space & NP affords you that. -Every Coach I've taken from has killed me in a good way. I leave feeling stronger. I also appreciate how ONE Coach can cue each section so seamlessly. As an instructor- that's not easy to do. So I applaud them for this!! They know when to push you and challenge you to up your weights or pick up speed in Cardio. Also they all have KILLER PLAYLISTS! I'll find myself bobbing and smiling which helps with these challenging workouts. It's a lot to take it your first time - So I'd go with a friend. I'd also let the coach know so they can help you if needed. Otherwise- RENEGADE is my favorite workout where I push my body to the limits! Bring your own sweat towel and water. FIRST TIMERS COME EARLY & get a feel for the Assault bikes and treadmills if you've never been on one. They're very different from your typical gym equipment. Highly recommend this place to everyone!!!

Great workouts! They kick my ass every time. Equipment is brand new and well maintained, environment is designed to make us focus on what we're doing at that moment and forget about anything else that might be in our minds. Coaches are fun, respectful and encouraging. I just love it! It's usually the best part of my days. Highly recommend it!

This place buzzes with good energy and great workouts! The coaches here are the big difference. Coach Coop and Coach Kat are phenomenal! I thought I was going to pass out about 3 times in my first class, I loved it! It's only been three weeks and I am already seeing a massive physical difference. How it works is they have different stations set up, and you go from station to station with your pod. You do a quick warm up, the work out, and then a cool down. Coach Coop is as motivating as it gets. When he tells you to keep pushing you keep pushing! If you want to feel like Rocky Balboa is in your corner, lace them up and run it!

But with the warm welcome from Coach Matty, I felt empowered to give it a try. The website does not do a great job of explaining the format, so here's what I experienced. The workout is split into three parts. Two strength based areas and one cardio tread. In the strength area, we engaged in things like deadlifts, curls, pull ups, etc. On the tread, we did a variety of intervaled runs with the section half being an option to either Tabata run or use the kettle bell to go between strength and floor core exercises. The coach cues each section and prompts you when to do what. Time flew by as you're constantly moving quickly from one exercise to another. I had a lot of fun and it was a really solid exercise. I left feeling stronger and sweatier! They offer first 3 classes free so you can give it a try!

This gym offers a wide variety of bootcamp like classes with fantastic energy and some truly talented coaches. While there are a few who are overly egotistical and could use a come back to earth reality check and a touch more humility, the majority of the coaching staff is excellent. Two standouts are Gabrielle Y. and Christian Q., who make working out an absolute pleasure. Gabrielle's welcoming demeanor and contagious positivity create a great atmosphere, and Christian's coaching style is equally motivating and supportive. The classes themselves are high-energy, challenging, and adaptable to different fitness levels. What I love most is that each coach brings their unique style and energy to the table. Once you find the coach who resonate with you, it's easy to stick with them and stay consistent. The variety keeps things interesting, and you'll never get bored while working toward your fitness goals. One of the challenges, however, is parking. Since Lazy Acres put up signs claiming what feels like half the lot, finding a spot can be a headache. I've learned not to arrive too early because spots typically free up only once the previous class ends. While it can be frustrating to circle the lot, a little patience and timing go a long way. It's something to keep in mind when planning your visits. The gym itself could benefit from more regular cleaning and maintenance. A deep cleaning is definitely overdue, as dust, hair, and even cobwebs can be seen in corners. Some benches are rusty and could use replacing. While these issues don't take away from the quality of the workouts, they do detract from the overall experience. Many other gyms in the area have weekly professional cleaning services, which could be a great addition here to help maintain a fresher, more polished environment. Despite these minor drawbacks, Renegade remains a fantastic place to work out. The membership is reasonably priced, although ClassPass is still more affordable and offers lower price penalties for late cancellations. Overall, the quality of the classes and the dedication of standout coaches like Gabrielle and Christian make this gym worth checking out. If you're looking for a challenging yet welcoming environment to achieve your fitness goals, Renegade is a solid choice--just plan ahead for parking and connect with the coaches whose energy aligns with yours!

I took myself on a little gym tour, trying to find a good replacement and though all the options were so much better than my former gym, North Park Fitness really stood out to me! The person working there when I came in for a little tour was very kind, I never felt pressured to join, he answered all my questions, and then has continued to recognize me ever since. It just felt very personable! He also took the time to make sure the gym would meet my needs and even offered to ask him any time if I ever needed help using a machine I was unfamiliar with. I love how clean everything is, and I notice how on top of it they are at fixing anything broken. In the year I've gone here, my favorite machine has had a rip in the seat twice and both times it was fixed within a few days of me noticing it. I appreciate that they fix things even when it doesn't affect the mechanics of the machine! They also have a huge variety of equipment, more options than when I was at my former gym that was much bigger. The only complaints I have, in my opinion, are not easy to change with a small, local gym in North Park. North Park Fitness can't change the parking options, that's a North Park problem. It is a bit pricey, but again, that's a North Park problem.
