Unlike most of the other sandwich shops, Henri's Sandwicherie is open until 1830hrs. Half of a fresh, crisp baguette with rost beef and gouda cheese with mayo, pickled onions, pickles, and tomatoes plus a can of Coke Zero Sugar was 6.30 Euros. Awesome deal, makes eating much more affordable when you don't have to spend 20-40 Euro on lunch daily when wandering through Mons. Unfortunately no dedicated seating like the other restaurants on the Grand Place, but you can sit at one of the 6 large circling benches on the plaza and people watch to your heart's content!!!

It's a very "bio" place and of course bio usually means that they will charge you more than if it was non-bio. But for those who have a conscious about destroying the planet and causing tsunamis and earthquakes because of spraying pesticides on crops, well this is the place to go! I do like the place though and it ain't half bad! I remember going to this one last year when meeting a friend there. I ordered a large coffee and it was so large that it was served in what looked more like a cereal bowl than it did a cup. I looked at the menu when there yesterday and that big cuppa set me back 3.60 Euros. But that isn't a bad price. Also on the menu were lots of desserts, which is the places main business since it has "bread" in the name of the cafe. You can get a tartelette of lemon, caramel or strawberry for just under 5 Euro. I ordered a beer, a bio pils for 2.60. It was a local beer, from the town of Silly and the bottle held 25cl. This really isn't too much more than a decent Belgian lager/pils. To eat, I got a "poulet fume" with a bunch of dressing and zuccini on it. It was basically a couple of open faced sandwiches but oh so good. There is virgin olive oil and Atlantic salt and (not sure where from) pepper on the table to douce your food. My girlfriend had a cappuccino and a beef sandwich, pretty similar to the style of mine. The beef was raw mince meat. I know that filet americain is raw beef but this was a new one on me. Before we left, we took a couple pastries to go (and eat in the cinema across the grand place). The total bill came to something like 35 Euro. It sounds pretty expensive for a couple sandwiches, pastries and drinks but I think it was worth it. The place is very clean, cozy and for the ladies, my girlfriend said that they're probably the cleanest toilets that she has found in Belgium!

Stopped by while on vacation in Mons. We were biking around the city and looking for a place to…read moregrab a beer. The tavern is tucked away right by the soccer stadium. It was obviously a popular spot with the locals since there were plenty sitting at the bar. The service was great despite a language barrier. I do try with my French but it only goes so far. We each got a burger with fries and there are tons of sauce choices. I like spicy so I went with the samurai. The wife went straight mayo. Great beer selection at a decent price. For two burgers and 3 beers, it was 28 €.

Like the other few cafes close by, they put out stalls to sell beer to those going to the game. Taverne 44 is also a "friterie" where they serve those famous Belgian fries (with many different sauces including mayonnaise!) and other friterie snacks such as burgers, brochettes, frikandels and so on. Stop by for a beer either on game day or any time.

If you just want a coffee and something to munch, grab a table (inside or outside), then go to the pastry counter, tell the lovely young lady what you want and she'll give you a ticket for it. When the waiter comes to your table, order your coffee (or tea or juice or...) and hand him the ticket. He'll bring the drink and the pastry. As for something more substantial, I'm not sure because I'm a coffee/pastry guy when I go there mostly. They do nice sandwiches though on baguettes or a croque monsieur (toasted ham and cheese sandwich) which comes with a little salad. Of course you can order beer, cocktails, etc with little plates of meats and cheeses. The place is very clean, the food is good and its something of a classy place in a low-keyed kinda way.

I've gotten one of their salad dishes before as well as their steak of salmon dish. Both were great in terms of taste as well as serving size. My personal favorite part about Le Saint Germain are the desserts. As mentioned in another review, they have pastries and chocolates but their menu also includes ice creams, crepes, waffles, milkshakes, and more. Their waffles and crepes are delicious, as are many of the cakes they display in the pastry section when you enter through the main door. Also, they have delicious freshly squeezed orange juice that goes great with a breakfast! :)
