Wanted an espresso pick me up after lunch at nearby Finnigan's Wake. Rena Marie's was within walking distance, so I decided to try it out. There was only 1 person working the register, taking orders, and making drinks, so a bit of a line had accumulated. They have a nice big menu board on the wall, so I perused and speculated what I wanted while I waited. The wait to order was only about 10 minutes which felt reasonable. I decided to customize an iced latte and make it white chocolate raspberry. The coffee was really good! But here is my thing... The service was just not super friendly. I never heard her call my name or my order so I just kind of went back up there to check periodically. All while taking my order, it was strictly business, not too much on the pleasantries. I always base my Yelp ratings on how a business compares to other like businesses. It's not fair to compare a fast food joint to a fine dining establishment. However, if I eat at McDonald's and it was the best McDonald's I've ever been to - it's earned 5 stars. There are so many coffee shops in Winston-Salem with amazing coffee. I love that Rena Marie's also offers boba/bubble teas, but the lackluster service sadly doesn't give it an edge over many of the other great coffee shops in Winston. The coffee was great, but service and atmosphere have to check the boxes as well to hold up against other competitors in town. She accidentally spilled the coffee on the counter while grabbing it from the chick and the woman had a sour attitude for her doing so. Located on Trade St in downtown Winston-Salem is this coffee/tea house. I was in need of caffeine for the drive home so got an iced latte. They have no sugar free flavors and public restroom was apparently unavailable. The barista took my order, never asking what size I wanted. Not even sure if they offer different sizes. Ok I've been coming to this place for awhile and I have always been greeted with a smile and friendly conversation by the man there but this evening was totally different. Upon entering the door, the guy looked as if he didn't want to be there and did not greet me with a smile at all. I gave him my punch cards (1 free bobo tea) and while he was ringing me up for 3 bobo teas, I asked him how his dog was doing and he said good, with no eye contact. This guy has always been friendly towards me in the past....not sure if he was having a bad day but customer service should always be the number one priority! I had the original milk tea and it was really weak, I did t even finish it. The frappe was super sweet. The place was eclectic and run by one person so the wait was long. It was just so it must be good- maybe we just didn't get a great drink. It's the only place in Winston I k ow if that has bubble tea- prob go to Greensboro or high point for it next time. read more

I'm so upset. I just left this place having spent 6 dollars on a bubble tea only to realize after driving away and taking three sips that my drink is predominantly composed of ice and the bubbles are caught up in it. This is a cute small cafe on Liberty street in the heart of Downtown Winston Salem. They have all the usual cafe menu, but I go here for their bubble tea. They have a wide variety of selection available. My favorites are taro and honeydew. One room for improvement would be that the service here has always been very slow every time I visited. They do not handle well when a large crowd comes in. Also, the bubble tea is slightly more than what I pay for at other bubble tea places, but it is the only place that you can get bubbletea in downtown winston salem. Inside has an interesting vibe and interior design. Cool table tops. Overall, a nice place for coffee/drinks/bubble tea and to chat with friends! I recommend this place! read more

This place is... disappointing. I was really excited to find out there's a bubble tea place in Winston-Salem. My first visit there I got the honey dew bubble tea (made from powder in slushy form), and it was fine--tastes like any other slushy bubble teas in NC. However, at my second visit, I ordered a milk tea ($5.25) with no ice, and I was told it's an extra 2.50 if I want it with no ice. That's almost 8 dollars for a milk tea! Not worth it. Might as well just buy a mix from amazon and make it yourself. read more

Rena Marie's definitely has some of the best boba tea in Winston-Salem, but it comes with a catch: the staff do not wear their masks! I have been multiple times over the course of the pandemic, and asked them to put on a mask, but they refused, claiming they had a medical exemption. This may be true, it may not be true, but either way they will be making your tea for you to drink with no mask on. It doesn't matter what medical exemption they say they have; this is obviously very unsafe for everyone involved, considering the literal pandemic consuming the globe right now. I won't be returning here for a long long time because of this and wanted to write this review to make the community aware of this fairly important issue. read more

My friend and I really love boba tea we usually go to Charlotte or Greensboro but came here after work and it was just...bland. I tried the Thai tea and she got the taro they both tasted mostly like water. If you're limited to Winston and want some sweeter boba I suggest Kernol's donuts. read more

Went there to try the bubble tea. I've had this in NYC and loved it. Tried the Teanado... It was just OK. It wasn't as sweet as I'm used to and the tapioca balls had a strange after taste. I have tried this place a few times now both in the mall and in the downtown location. The wait is always a little longer then necessary. The coffee is ok, but always seems to have a bitter aftertaste. They have a punch card system like Camino, Twin City Hive, etc. but they have one for straight coffee and the other for specialty. There are many other coffee places in the downtown area that offer better service than this. read more
