Never will I forget the bone chilling scream of my son in my wife's arms. Staff was of little assistance. The so-called manager, "Liam" was violently drunk. He was telling me that the supposed assailant had fled the scene, then a moment later, "he was in handcuffs, downstairs". It was evident who actually threw the glass. This particular individual was merely trying to dissimulate the situation. We received no official apology from the establishment. We left feeling sick and confused. The owner(s) were nowhere to be seen, although, reading these reviews it seems that this "Liam" was indeed the owner. Wonderful. How could this happen to us? How could this happen to a child? And how can a person get away with such abhorrent behaviour? These were questions that haunted us and which lead me to write this review. To all potential customers, I would recommend you look elsewhere for an evening pint. I tend to believe that most people would not support this cowardly act. To the James Joyce Pub, I expect an apology. I can be contacted by email, facebook, instagram and whatsApp. There is no excuse. To my son, I apologise that I could not protect you.

My colleagues and I stumbled upon The Smoking Dog and couldn't pass up giving it a try. What a fun place. The interior is just very cool. Got that classic but quirky combination that makes for a great pub. There was a soccer game going on and the patrons were very very into it. That added to the fun atmosphere. We chose this one because we liked the seating and because the boat looked the coolest of all the other boats and barges. The seating is fairly plentiful, even when quite a few people are trying to get a spot in the shade. Ordering is easy but it can be quite a wait if it's busy. We got a few cocktails and they were outstandingly delicious. I didn't know I needed passionfruit cocktails in my life but now I do. The views and the just chill vibe of the surroundings make this a nice respite from sightseeing or whatever activity you may be up to in Lyon.

It is probably the most artistically decorated cafe we encountered in Lyon, short of the great grand Art Deco of Brasserie Georges. This is more intimate and more striking. The motif is lush vegetation, painted on to an olive green background. Green on green. The vegetation swirls in every direction in graceful curls. Cafe Charmant is in a not very charmant neighborhood, the immediate environs of Gare Oullins, a functional boxy modern train station with all the architectural beauty of a highway intersection. The buildings around it are uninspired modern apartments or somewhat industrial looking offices. In this grim suburban setting, Cafe Charmant is an oasis for the eyes and for the soul. My suspicion is that the food is just as good as the decor, But you will have to find that out for yourself.
