They fell a tree the wrong direction in my neighbors yard and took out part of my fence. They said they would be back to fix it and then stopped responding to my voicemails and emails. read more

This company was doing tree removal for neighbors across the street. Their truck struck our mailbox. The company worker was friendly, assured me they would fix it. Took pictures, etc. No follow-up whatsoever. They will not respond to phone calls or emails. They are polite, take a message, then silence. Mailbox will not close and post is leaning. I received a call from Dave more than a month after I had called to get an estimate. He said my information had been misplaced. I accepted their proposal and confirmed a date over a month out for the trimming of 3 trees. Thursday, I called to confirm the 7:30 am Friday morning arrival time. I was told they had an emergency and would be coming in the early afternoon. At 1:00 pm, I called to ask when to expect them and was told ASAP. I called again at 3:00 pm to find out how late they worked and was told they started as late as 6:00 pm. I called back at 5:00 and no one answered the phone. Today is Tuesday and I have not received a call of explanation. read more

To be fair, the work they do is good. It's getting them to actually do it that's hard. I have a branch that's falling down from my oak. It's putting my fence and my neighbor's small kids and their swing set at risk. Over a week ago, I called them for a quote to take it down, do some cutting out of the dead stuff, and fertilize the tree. "No problem, we'll get right on this - I'll mark this urgent/emergency, I'll get the quote done right away, and as soon as you accept the quote, we'll get right out here." Two days later, I had to call them to even get the quote. I accepted immediately. Five days later, I had to call them again to ask if they were ever going to show up. "We'll be there on the 29th." (In two weeks!) I asked about their "urgent/emergency" status. I was told they would call back. They called back. "We'll be there tomorrow." They were not. I called them AGAIN. "We'll get back to you." They did not. I called them. "We'll be there Monday." I am not holding my breath at this point. I have to call my neighbors, explain to them why their kids can't go near their swing set for the fourth time. I'm hoping it doesn't take out my fence. I'm left to hope that they MIGHT show up on Monday. Understand this: I have used this company for years. They have done Landscaping, Sod replacement, Removed a sick tree, even put up my fence that's in danger of coming down. I've given them faithfully and on time Thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars. I believe I've gone through this repeatedly calling them to do the work with every job I have had them do. Again, they actually do really good work. Maybe I don't live in the right zip code. Maybe that's the problem. But I've been a loyal customer for several years and several projects, and this is how they treat me. I doubt I call them again. They should probably reconsider a name change from Reliable. Beware of the Owner Consider this a public service announcement for those who might want to choose this company for your lawn care needs. I don't want you to experience what I have. So be warned. I have been using this company for about 15 years for lawn care (aeration and dethatch, mostly) with one prior unpleasant incident with the owner, Lee Mueller, until he made an estimate visit to my house recently. I needed some heavy-duty Yew bush trimming. He does not want to do what I need done to clear the bush away from the side walk it's blocking and also doesn't want to trim the top evenly because it would expose the wood, look like 'chit' (Yes, he used the brown word) and would probably die. It would tarnish his reputation, according to him. I've had a major cut back done before and the bush is still thriving, so forgive me if have trouble believing his dire prediction. For the first job he did for me about 15 years ago, he estimated some partial hardscape/landscape for my back yard flower bed. He seemed irritated that I didn't know exactly what I wanted but we came to an agreement for low maintenance evergreens through his recommendation. When the work was done, he complained to me because it took 2 men a total of 8 hours to dig out the previous owner's decorative marble rock and vegetation from the bed and that he almost didn't have enough dirt left for planting. I was taken aback and I wondered: How is that my concern? He, evidently, underestimated the job in spite of his vast experience. I wrote the whole thing off as him just having a couple of bad days and said nothing to him, but I made a mental note that resurfaced on his most recent visit. Lee Mueller has to be one of the grumpiest, condescending, impatient and irritable business owners I have ever encountered in all my life. If you want to be insulted, all you need do is ask him a few 'stupid' questions or tell him what you need done even if it goes against his recommendation. He may even patronizingly give you a pat on the back and suggest you get someone else to do the work like he did to me. (OMG! He touched me! Eww!) If the work I need to have done goes against his high standards of bush taming then so be it. I understand. I'll pay someone else to do it. However, what I cannot abide is having an old curmudgeon show up at my house and act like all those adjectives I listed above. If he is so concerned about the reputation of his business, perhaps he should start to repair it by never interfacing with any customer ever again. Perhaps retirement would help. He's ruining his own reputation just by opening his mouth. The look of my bushes would have nothing to do with it. Lee Mueller has successfully ended any present or future business dealings between his company and me. I refuse to allow a sick man like that to further profit from me even though he has excellent employees who do good work that are pleasant to deal with. So the moral of the story is: If the nice lady on the phone tells you that Lee's coming over, beware. If it's his employee, Curt, you'll be treated nicely and respectfully. read more
