I like my cafes, and have tried to go to as many as I can in the Brighton area. This whole area is teeming with them, and I almost feel like I could copy any of the reviews I've written about the Preston Road cafes in Relax's case. There's just nothing special about Relax in particular, and there's much more great stuff in the area: just go a little further afield to find some really excellent little places. This is just a sandwich and coffee place: if that's all you want, go ahead.
In terms of decor and design, Relax does do slightly better than most of the cafes in the area: instead of having nowhere to sit and having to deal with chequered tablecloths, the design is a bit more old-school. There's a lot of wood and the like, and there's a bit more effort been put in here than necessarily needed to be: a plus point!
Otherwise, the selection here is what you'd expect: various forms of sandwich, tea and coffee, and little else. Nothing here particularly appeals to me, it's just a little bit dull compared to some of the places a little closer to town. Still,. if you're in the area, and you need a bite to eat, you could do worse than Relax, just don't expect more than what's on the tin. read more
