When the pneumatic height adjustment finally gave out on my last chair (after 15 years!), I gave serious thought to investing in Herman Miller's Aeron chair. When the chair went on sale, I went into DWR to sit in the chair, see how it felt and play with the adjustments. The saleswoman who helped me seemed nice enough at the start and was able to answer many of my questions. Then, I told her I have an Eames desk and would like to roll the chair over to one so I could see if the chair could be adjusted high enough to allow me to comfortably work with my keyboard on the desk's surface. The woman had no idea what desk I was talking about, and when I tried to describe it to her, she told me I don't have an Eames desk and took me over to a different desk and said that's the desk I have. Uh, no it isn't. We went back and forth on this until I convinced her to look up my desk on her computer. When she found it, she said they don't have it in the store and offered no apology for her rudeness. We then focused on the chair, she took me through the different adjustments, it was everything I wanted and needed, we proceeded with the sale, she walked me through the next steps, and that was that. Overall, this chair has been a great investment. It's everything I needed and wanted, and I was very happy to get it on sale for 20% off. I was also very happy to walk out of the store and leave that saleswoman behind.

But we did not have the adapter to plug it into a wall - so it was basically lacking the ability to recline electronically. We had no luck sourcing a power charger on Amazon, so we came to the store in Mission Valley, San Diego. The store manager Daniel Varona patiently explained to us that they actually no longer made or made adapters for that type of couch due to its age. I explained my issue with the charger, and he was able to link me up with Modani customer service and we successfully sourced me an older backstock charger! We purchased the Oxford TV Stand on 8/30 with an estimated 2 to 3-week timeline as per Daniel Varona, but after a month without a single update--despite paying a $159 delivery fee--we had to repeatedly chase down basic information ourselves. It is ridiculous to charge a hefty delivery fee and then fail to provide any delivery service updates whatsoever; how can a furniture business expect to survive if they cannot actually get furniture to their customers? When we finally received an update, we were informed the item wouldn't even ship until 10/12 (six weeks post-purchase) and that they refused to waive the delivery fee, leaving us no choice but to cancel. This is looks to be common as evidenced by so many other reviews of customers facing the same issues. Update: our refund was processed at least.

We went into the store in San Marcos, one of many furniture dealers we visited in the North County area, with the intention to develop a sense of what we were looking for. It was nice to have guidance on the products fit into our vision and our designer/sales rep Patty was incredibly responsive and helpful in answering our questions. She was also very patient as we returned multiple times over a number of weeks. As a business owner I like to be a judicious buyer so we didn't want to rush into any big decisions especially in this economy. We found a couple of items at various places that we liked but our experience with Basset Furniture was so positive that we returned there to make our purchase. The final enticement being a 0% interest rate for 36 months which worked out great to spread the cost out over time - and allow us to indulge more than originally planned. We ordered a BDI media center, a BDI bar, an oversize stuffed chair (on floor/clearance), and a Himolla Stratus loveseat. the stuffed chair was a Bassett product which was on clearance. I was not totally sure about the stuffed chair when we impulse bought it off the floor but it is just amazing. It is like a small couch for two people and so darn comfortable. The entertainment center and the bar came from the same company (BDI) and we are very pleased with the look of it as well as the quality. Basset is still getting us a replacement for a misalignment on our bar and I will update this review once that comes. They were very responsive to this issue. The delivery of our power loveseat had a couple of complications (not unexpected for a product being shipped from Germany) but Basset was able to assist us in resolving this over a few months of back and forth. The final product is the beautiful living room of our dreams. Tiffany was an incredible resource on the back end assisting us with any issues and overall our experience with the San Marcos Bassett furniture store has been excellent. Once this first 20k in furniture is paid off we plan to purchase many more items in coming years and will be visiting this store first when making big purchases. Hopefully Patty and Tiffany are still there in the coming years to provide the amazing service we have experienced this time around.

The $214.43 is more than their stated restocking fee as I bought the item on sale. I wrote customer service the following: Subject: Urgent: Refund Request for Damaged Caspian Chairside Table - Order/Transaction #W0036174 Dear Bassett Furniture Co. Customer Service, I am writing to request a full refund for a Caspian Chairside Table 6S24-0643 that I purchased for $949.00 during a sale. The table arrived at your San Marcos store damaged, and upon inspection, Debbie, a representative at the San Marcos store, informed me that a perfect, undamaged replacement could not be secured. Due to the item arriving damaged, I requested a refund. I was subsequently charged a significant amount, with $214.43 being withheld from my refund. I firmly believe that a restocking fee should not apply in this situation, as the table was damaged upon arrival and was never delivered to my home; I inspected it at your showroom. Even if a restocking fee were applicable, your standard 15% restocking fee on the purchase price of $949.00 would amount to $142.35. The $214.43 that was withheld significantly exceeds this amount, representing more than the stated 15%. Therefore, I am requesting a full refund of the $214.43 that was withheld. This amount represents the difference between the full purchase price and the refund I received. Alternatively, if a full refund of the withheld amount is not possible despite the table arriving damaged and no undamaged replacement being available, I request that the restocking fee be adjusted to the stated 15% of the purchase price, which is $142.35. This would mean I am owed an additional $72.08 ($214.43 - $142.35). I expect a fair resolution to this matter. Please process the refund of $214.43 or, at a minimum, the $72.08 difference to adhere to your stated restocking fee policy for damaged goods. I look forward to your prompt response and a resolution to this issue. You can reach me at ***-***-**** or ******@gmail.com

Overall, I'm ok with the quality of the furniture, but I was unhappy about the way I was treated by Mr. Seymor Weksler, who I believe is the owner, so I'd like to share my experience. First, I want to say the price is reasonable and the quality is consistent with the price tag. Although Seymor assured me that the furniture is made of solid wood when we were making the purchase decision, some parts of it are not, such as the drawers (see picture). But I can understand given the price. I also want to say the staff who helped me throughout are in general friendly and professional. But I ran into two big issues. The first one is that the chest is simply broken when we receive it. The problem is very obvious, so the seller replaced it for me and returned the broken piece to their supplier, American Furniture. It was not a pleasant experience and I was treated well. The second issue is what angers me. We ordered a King-size bed, but Seymore mistakenly thought it was California King. In the store, Seymore and I did talk about California King as a possible choice and he suggested that since I'm not very tall, a normal King-size bed would be better, so I ended up choosing King instead of Cal-King. My family and I vividly remembered this conversation. On the order sheet, Seymore wrote down "CK" and at the time I didn't pay much attention to it because I thought it was some internal code. Then we went to a mattress store and picked up a King-size mattress. It is highly unlikely for the four of us to make such a mistake. We didn't realize this issue until we assembled the bed and found that the mattress didn't fit. I immediately called Seymore and when he first received my call, he thought I was calling to thank him for replacing the chest (and I did). When I started to talk about the real problem, he suddenly changed his tone and refused to admit any possibility that he had made a mistake. And after one minute, he simply hung up on me. I was being very calm and reasonable throughout the process. Till today, after almost a month, he never called me back and asked me whether my problem has been solved. Because I don't have proof that it is the store's mistake - it is his words against ours -- we were left with few options. In the end, I talked to the mattress store and asked them whether they could help me replace the King-size mattress we originally ordered with a Cal-King that fit into the bed frame. Fortunately, they were willing to do so and the problem was solved - we can live with a Cal-King although we wanted to buy a King-size bed. The reason I wrote the review is that I was surprised by the sudden change of tones and by the fact that he simply refused to talk to me to find a solution. I teach at a university, and I can understand the business logic: if the chest is broken, it's on the supplier and the store bears no cost when replacing it; however, if they admit that they have made a mistake in ordering, they will incur some cost. I get that, but I don't think it is the right way to treat their customers when there's a problem. A tip for future customers: make sure that you get everything right on paper because it is likely that they will not help you out if your matter will incur some cost on their part. Be aware.
