I've worked with Ken several times. He has tried to prevent his colleagues for doing surgery by trying his level best with non-interventional therapies. It is unfortunate that I had to have several but he was wildly successful on one shot that he has earned his place in my Orthopedic hall of fame book. He tried to prevent surgery or fix the pain on a couple of occasion in my much worked on right shoulder. That damage was too great to be fixed by Prp. He did the best he could but you aren't going to spin out enough growth factors from the blood of a man in his 60's but he did his best and he has a VERY skilled hand at injections. After my third shoulder surgery, I found a tear in my forearm tendons. it was not complete but very deep and very long. He wanted to do another round of PRP but I brought up a different approach. One of the stem cell therapies. I've been in Big Pharma for 30 years and while I am not a Doctor, I know my way around data. Doc was open to the discussion... which was funny as hell with the banter that went between us like two top tennis players volleying back and forth. He decided that I made a decent enough case to give it a shot. Doc decided on Whartons Jelly. I won't go into specifics but Insurance doesn't cover the product and I paid out of pocket. The $1,500 I paid was cheap as hell for the results we had. Six weeks post surgery and with zero PT (my fault) I went back for an eval. It was completely resolved. We both looked and almost shat ourslevess at the results. It was completely resolved. Totally and completely resolved. As I am having deterioration in my left ankle from a previous surgery that was no the surgeon's fault, I am planning on calling Ken next week to get him to inject my left ankle. It hasn't split yet and this might just keep that from happening. You can't go wrong with Dr. Honsik. He will listen and he will achieve by doing his level best to prevent his colleagues from having to cut me open yet again. You? ... You could you do worse for sure. Could you do better? NO. He is the man.

The first time was to fix what someone else…read morehad not done a proper job in 2002 plus I had ongoing overuse injuries combined with an AC break from being in an ocean, in maui off the Four Seasons that I had no business being in and paid the price. His work was excellent and the repairs held for years. However, being the over achiever that I am I snapped the rotator cuff again in 23 (I am hard on my body) and he had to go back in. Long before we did any work, he did try non interventional therapy but my damage was too extensive. The third surgery the damage to my rotator cuff was so great that it could not be reattached. His advice was that I would need a complete replacement where the ball and socket are reversed. BUT, most importantly, he told me to wait at least 5 years. He gave me solid reasons and I have waited and with no pain mind you. Well, as I have taken up blacksmithing, I am at that place where that shoulder will need to be replaced. Let me tell you that I am going BACK to Eppley. I like him, I trust him and he has done thousands of these. You don't want the guy who has done a dozen. You want the guy who has done 25,000. On top of all this he is a nice guy and approachable. His knowledge is impeccable. He is a good Doctor and I am not one to be in awe of Doctors. I have worked with them daily for the last 30 years as a Pharma rep. I can tell the good from the bad and the good from the great. He falls into great. That's why I will be calling him next week to start the evaluation process for my shoulder. You all must understand the surgical outcomes can be affected by many factors. Many of them patient induced or just plain old back luck. Orthos by nature are problem solvers. They see an issue and fix it. If you have bad posture or poor body mechanics or any number of other factors the failure is on you. Discuss and fix that stuff with your PT's and treat PT like a job. I trust Dr. Eppley enough to replace that shoulder and to do it properly. The ultimate outcome will be up to me and how well I follow instructions. Medicine is filled with risk. No two humans are exactly alike. Epply is a guy I trust to work around issues. That's why I am going back to him without hesitation. If an issue arises, him and I will face it together. I have zero hesitation on this one. You should feel the same.

The dr. knew nothing of his medical history or why he was paralyzed, but told me to be quiet, which I did. Hearing the history might have helped him diagnose, but he didn't want to hear it. He then had to take a lengthy break to ask his associate for a "pep talk" (to quote him). When he returned he asked my husband a couple fairly irrelevant questions. He told the dr. to talk with me because I was more familiar with the details as he had been semi comatose for 2 months while in the hospital and it would be more efficient to get the information from me. The dr. replied that there are some patients he just couldn't deal with (??) and we should leave. He added that he just couldn't deal with the "back and forth". Neither of us have any idea what he found so hard to deal with or what "back and forth" he was talking about--other than that each of us had spoken briefly at some point in response to a query from him. I then said it had been quite a long trip to see him and a lot of trouble to bring a wheel chair bound patient and asked him about the Hippocratic oath he had taken. He lied about the contents of the oath (I was referring to his duty to help those who are sick and seek his help) and said the oath told him to tell the truth and he was doing that. I looked it up and it doesn't say anything of the kind. In any case, his behavior was bizarre. He was attempting to gain information, which my husband was supplying, and which I added to briefly, but agreed to be silent when asked, although I could have answered his questions quickly and succinctly so that we could proceed with a diagnosis. No other dr. has objected to this. In fact, I have been routinely complimented on my succinct and accurate presentation of his very complicated medical history, and I was quiet after he silenced me for the one sentence I spoke when my husband couldn't answer the question. Patients are encouraged to bring a family member to help give information and receive information during a dr's visit so I find this dr's reaction, as I said, bizarre. My conclusion, based on his temperamental performance, is that he has severe personality problems that affect his ability to perform professionally. He appeared quite aged and it's likely he's becoming senile and it's time to retire. Or perhaps he needed lunch and wanted to get rid of us so he could hit the hospital cafeteria across the street. We saw him heading that way immediately after our dismissal. He didn't take fluid from my husband's knee, which his ID dr had requested, and left us without an appt. with another dr after waiting a week for this appt. In other words, he left us stranded, on our own, to deal with the pain, with no appt. with another dr., no idea what was going on with the hot, swollen knee, the complicated medical history, recent hospitalization for sepsis, currently on IV antibiotics for 6 weeks, no interest in learning any of this even after reading the ID dr's note requesting fluid and analysis of fluid from knee. He didn't give a rat's ass. He just had his nose out of joint over something and apparently his ego had been injured, which was his only concern. This guy could not have been less professional or less caring.

At my first appointment (on the phone to discuss what was wrong and figure out how to treat it) she warned me that it would probably get worse before it got better, and admittedly the first two appointments were rough. But then it was like a switch flipped. I saw her, and the next day I could function some. Every time I see her the period of functionality afterwards gets longer. I can now go to the gym and walk again. I still need that knee replacement, but I am no longer house bound, and can live my life again. I would recommend her to anyone having joint issues.

I had simply asked to speak to him of an unfortunate morning appt experience where me and another guy-both over 70, who had 10:30 and 10:45 appts, were made to wait while an 11:00 young hispanic man was taken in before us. Woodcox would not even apologize. The 10:30 guy paced back and forth before the recept window and Maria said she "sees him". BTW: we had to listen to her when a hispanic guy came out from his appt and for 10 min she berated him for never learning to speak Spanish. Not office etiquette. When Maria found out that I spoke privately to Woodcox about appt times, she flew into a judgmental rage at me, went into his room and when the two came out she would not make another appt for me but instead said coldly to call her when I got home. It wasn't clear to me at first as she was being vague, sneaky, manipulative that she had gotten Woodcox to drop me as a patient just because I advocated for myself. To do this over such a small issue, the way in which he did it, and to a senior disabled citizen with a workers comp case, ruins my case. There was no care at all for my life and how they were affecting it. He should know better how to end an OWCP case for a person with a partially disabled foot/ankle to get settlement but did not care and just had me hanging on each month coming in so he could collect payment. Now he only sees patients one day a week and paid to be a QME so he has his income set. I should have had partial foot loss settlement, but without his recommendation and exam for that I cant. No matter how many like him, this is also how he is. He really doesn't care about people though he puts on a good act for the money. Too hard to find another OWCP dr for long term injury. Very cruel guy and staff. When they do wrong they turn it on patient.
