I recently had outpatient surgery at this surgical center…read more As to the services provided and the patient care, It is second to none. They were extremely cautious in protecting patients with covid. Only patients were permitted in the building. Patients had to keep masks on pre surgery but not after surgery but each patient was safely secured and very well social distanced This was my 11th surgery and except for the c sections performed to deliver both my children I never went to the same hospital / surgery center twice . First all the nurses were incredibly pleasant, attentive and professional. They really cared about the patient not just their physical but also mental well being. I had an IV line put in my hand, and you absolutely cannot tell I had an IV, no bleeding, no bruising and cannot even tell where it was on my hand the day after surgery. It didn't hurt when they put it in. I was cold so they gave me a heating blanket where they put warm air inside the blanket and it was amazing. Recovery was just as amazing. They were very quick to make sure I had something to drink and snack when I woke up. They were very concerned about pain. Last the communication via text and phone with my husband who was waiting was just as amazing. This was way above and beyond any other surgical experience I have had and would absolutely recommend them

Therefore, I was astonished that I was told at 3 pm on 1/8 that I would be discharged on 1/9 at 1030 am. I was totally not prepared to return to my home (I live alone). I had no special equipment like walker, commode (to go over toilet), and shower chair. They said they could loan me one of their walkers and I could return it later - what? I appealed this discharge to Medicare, but was informed about 3 pm 1/9 that my appeal was denied and so I was discharged on the morning of 1/10. Overall, Encompass was very good for rehab.

After major surgery, my father spent two weeks here. Despite many good reviews, we are less than…read moreimpressed with our experience. While the staff was friendly, there was very little communication, especially from his case manager, and at times the staff seemed overwhelmed. It felt necessary to be there all day every day to advocate for him and his needs. Hygiene issues: My dad wasn't given adequate showers or bathed, despite several staff members telling me he had been, including his case worker. The sanitary wrapping was still on the shower chair by day five. After finally being showered, he went another five days - despite multiple staff ensuring us they do showers "every other day." When we requested a bed bath or shower, we were told the staff didn't have time or that he "wasn't on the schedule." Weekends were the worst. My aunts and I gave him several bed baths because the staff wouldn't/couldn't. He was also left in the same clothes for multiple days. Lack of cleanliness on weekends: During the week, there was someone consistently cleaning the rooms. However, over the weekend, I found a soiled Depends and wet shorts laying on the table in the room after he had had an accident overnight. Medical needs weren't fulfilled: After four days of hallucinations, the nurses and doctors finally listened to us and took him off the medicine that was causing the issues. Compression socks were requested several times over a weekend, and we were told they were out. It's a rehab facility, and he needed them for his known history of blood clots. Despite telling his case worker that he wasn't mentally equipped to ask for pain pills, they were not prescribed. His case worker said she would write it in the notes on his chart to offer pain medicine, but that the nurses were trained to only give them upon request and "some nurses don't read the notes." At which point I asked, isn't that their job? Another nurse tried to shame him for asking for oxycodone. Despite the doctor having a 20-minute conversation with us telling him he needs oxycodone because of the level of pain he's in. If he didn't have the oxycodone, he would be in too much pain to do physical therapy, which is ultimately what happened. One nurse left his pills on the counter in his room when she left, and my father had to remind them he had not been given them. Despite his blood pressure being dangerously low the entire time he was in Encompass, the issue wasn't addressed until two days before he left when he was given medication to try to bring it up. He missed out on multiple days of physical therapy because it was as low as 88/44 upon standing. Poor communication: The family wasn't notified when he was moved from the hospital to the facility - we found out when we showed up at the hospital to see him. After being moved, communication got worse. The case manager did not return four voicemails, ranging from questions on care (including showers) to equipment that failed to show up for discharge. He was admitted on a Saturday, and we finally got to talk to a doctor on Monday. Twice when I called with a question, I was transferred to the nurses station. The phone rang for about four minutes, and then hung up. Issues at discharge: We had requested a wheelchair and bedside commode on Tuesday before his Friday discharge. They finally arrived the following Tuesday after voicemails to several case workers went unreturned. Instead of therapy taking him to the car simulator, our family finally took him ourselves, so we could figure out the best route to get him home. Lack of therapy: We were told he would get "three hours of therapy every day." Over the weekend on a Saturday, he laid in bed for more than 36 hours because he had already "reached his 15 hours of therapy for the week." Attention: After his first physical therapy session, he rolled himself back to his room in his wheelchair unsupervised. It appeared no one was paying attention. While we appreciated the kindness of the nurses and doctors, there are some very glaring issues here. I get more communication and better follow up with my vet's office when I take my cat in for a checkup. I sincerely hope the facility takes these concerns seriously.

I have been a patient of Dr. Brian Wallace's for several years following a torn ACL repair. I…read morerecently made an appointment due to shoulder pain and decreased strength in the gym. Dr. Wallace ordered an MRI which is conveniently located in the Joint Replacement Institute practice. His staff worked with my insurance when they first denied coverage even though it was the last few days of the year and my family had more than met the deductible. The MRI was covered and revealed a 50% torn rotator cuff and Dr. Wallace suggested PRP (Plasma Rich Platelets). Blood is drawn from the patient and spun to produce PRP which contains a mixture of platelets, including cytokines and growth factors, and has anti-inflammatory properties which injected into an injury site can stimulate the healing process. I have truly been more than pleased with the results. I no longer have shoulder pain including when I lay on my side and I am working my way back up to push-ups and heavier weights in the gym. As a surgeon, Dr. Wallace looks for non-surgical remedies when they are an option. Dr. Wallace also has incredible bedside manner that make me know I have been heard and takes his time to ensure that the patient understands all pain relieving options. Dr. Wallace has empathy, knowledge and surgical skills. We are fortunate to have Joint Replacement Institute with skilled surgeons right here in Naples, Florida.
