After 2 hours in the heat, I was able to obtain the document, But that wasn't enough... they needed the original document, therefore I needed to have the document overnighted. These guys think they are above the law and operate their business as if the law doesn't apply to them. Below are the FL State Laws that apply to when your vehicle is towed. Definitely use them as a reference point when dealing with these crooks to protect your self. The tow company must notify the police within 30 minutes of completing a towing and provide certain information about the vehicle. Fla. Stat. § 715.07(2)(a)(2). If you park and your car is gone when you return to where you originally parked it, contact the local police department or sheriff's office to report the vehicle as missing. Local law enforcement will be able to tell you whether your vehicle has been towed and, if so, which towing company towed the vehicle and where your vehicle is stored. Tow truck companies must provide local law enforcement a complete copy of the current rates to be charged for its services. Fla. Stat. § 715.07(2)(a)(6). They must also post an identical rate schedule at the storage site and on any written contracts with property owners who authorize them to remove vehicles. Id. Towing and Distance of Tow If you return to your vehicle while it is still in the process of being towed, the tow truck driver must agree to lower the vehicle and can only charge you up to one-half of the posted rate for the towing or removal service. Fla. Stat. § 715.07(2)(a)(3). If the tow truck operator does not agree to do this, your vehicle may have been illegally towed. Any towed or removed vehicle must be stored at a site within a 10 to 30 mile radius of the place it was removed. The exact radius depends on the size of the County where the vehicle was removed. Fla. Stat. § 715.07(2)(a). If your vehicle was taken to a storage location that is too far from the location of the tow, your rights may have been violated. Tow Trucks and Tow Yards Tow trucks or other vehicles used in the towing or removal must have the name, address, and telephone number of the company clearly printed in "contrasting colors on the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle." Fla. Stat. § 715.07(2)(a)(7). The name must be in at least 3-inch permanently affixed letters, and the address and telephone number in at least 1-inch permanently affixed letters. Id. The tow yard must be open for vehicle owners to get their vehicles back on any day that the person or firm towing such vehicle or vessel is open for towing purposes, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Fla. Stat. § 715.07(2)(a)(1). When the tow yard is closed, it must prominently post a sign indicating a telephone number where the operator of the site can be reached at all times. Id. Upon receiving a telephoned request to open the site to redeem a vehicle, the operator must return to the site within 1 hour. Id. A towed vehicle must be released to its owner or custodian within one hour after requested. Fla. Stat. § 715.07(2)(a)(9). The vehicle's owner or agent has the right to inspect the vehicle before accepting its return. Id. The tow yard cannot hold your vehicle hostage by requiring you to sign a release or waiver of any kind, which would release their liability for damages noted by the owner or agent at the time of the redemption. Id. Whether requested or not, a detailed, signed receipt showing the legal name of the company towing or removing the vehicle must be given, at the time of payment, to the person paying the charges. Id. Remedies for Vehicle Damage Caused by Towing Tow companies are liable for any damage negligently caused to the vehicle. Fla. Stat. § 715.07(2)(a)(8). Therefore, if your vehicle was damaged in the towing process, you may recover the costs to repair your vehicle. Remedies for Improper Towing in Florida If the towing did not strictly comply with Florida law, vehicle owners are entitled to damages and they can additionally recover their costs and attorney fees. See Fla. Stat. § 715.07(4) ("When a person improperly causes a vehicle or vessel to be removed, such person shall be liable to the owner or lessee of the vehicle or vessel for the cost of removal, transportation, and storage; any damages resulting from the removal, transportation, or storage of the vehicle or vessel; attorney's fees; and court costs."). Literally just had my car towed. I have a rental because my car is in the shop, so I don't have a decal. I caught the driver before he lifted the vehicle, and he told me that he knew it was a rental. I explain to him that this is MY parking spot, so it wasn't as if I just parked randomly on the lot. Today March 23th, 2019 around 1:15 PM. at the exit of the community "Royal Palm Place, located in SW 157th Ave, 33196 I have to experience an incident with a Towing company driver. Towing company: Regulated Towing, located at 13605 SW 149 Ave, Unit 8, Miami, FL 33196. The driver was exiting the community thru the main gate. The truck had a car towed attached. He passed the gate and stopped right after it, not allowing to exit the gate and make a safe left turn. Without even saying anything the driver told me to go around him, but doing so I would have been on the wrong side to make a left turn and the visibility would have been jeopardized by his truck. I had my child in the car at the time. He was taking information from the car he had towed. Information from the front windshield, number plate, things he should have done when he started the towing within the parking space in a safe area. He went to talk to the community guard and left the vehicles unattended. I told him he was blocking the traffic that I would not have made it thru or it was even safe to do so, while other cars were already behind me too, he told me to wait. So I had to wait for him to complete the work while blocking a community exit. This is unacceptable, unsafe and improper. read more

Came to pick up my car that was towed from my own house, the guy said it would be $126. (Hook up and storage fee). When I go to pick it up, the same exact guy I spoke to tells me it's going to be $173. When I told him that he said $126, he just said "no I didn't. It's $173". And then when I kept insisting he threatened to charge me $10 more because he just wanted to. In other words, they do whatever they want. Charge whatever they want. You have to just shut up, and take it or else they can just keep your car if they want to. Treat the people like complete trash and they make it extremely difficult to get your car back. Called the police to file a stolen vehicle report and after a couple hours of figuring out which tow company took my car I was informed Regulated Towing had the car. Spoke to Manuel and he said he'd charge $101 for the whole thing and he'd be there until 8:30am. I wasn't going to go at 2:30am to pick up a car in a tow yard (so sketchy) so I informed him that I'd be there before he left in the morning. I get there and Manuel hands be a carbon copy to sign that states $101 total so I can pick up my car. I sign it. Then he asks for my method of payment, I hand him my credit card. Manuel then says he is charging my card $121. (What?!?!) I replied "But wait, you said just a few hours ago it was $101. It's even written on the paper I just signed." I had a terrible experience this morning. This company is manged by racist and cold hearted people who only care to make $1. We woke up to our car being towed from our own parking space In a gated community, we just moved here from Massachusetts a month ago. We have a temporary plate and a temporary decal. I just got back from the hospital (I gave birth to our daughter) so our temporary decal must have fallen from the dashboard. We explained this to the association, the security guard, and the towing service. We were told we had to pay $121 to get the car because they could not see the decal. My husband took an uber to the regulated towing site, I'm on bed rest because of my csection. They told him they can't give him the car because my name is first on the title, insurance and registration, and his is second. He explains to them why I can't go but that he's a co-owner either way. They start talking in Spanish so my husband calls me to listen on the speaker phone. My husband is black, doesn't speak Spanish, and I'm Dominican they were saying "a el negro este no le den el carro" "don't give this black guy that car". Then they tell him sorry we are keeping the car until you bring your wife. So I called the hammocks police station and reported the incident. My husband called the police directly and waited outside their building. The police went inside and asked what can they do. They said to the police they will accept a copy of my driver's license and a letter to allow my husband to receive the car. It took the police to handle the situation. They could have told my "Black" husband the same thing. My husband co owns everything! We've had the car towed in Massachusetts once never did I have this problem. In Miami beach 2 years ago as well. The encounter i had was extremely sketchy to say the least. After agreeing to a price with the dispatcher, the driver charged me an extra $60 that i'm 100% sure went straight to his pocket. He claimed the up charge was for the manual labor he was going to have to do, after calling the dispatcher again they seemed confused when i mentioned the driver asked for more money.
