Updated. They were hacked and all customer info was breached. Google it for the full story. 1 yr…read more of free credit monitoring...yay. Yes, they suck.

SRP has No Security in place to protect my money in my Checking Account. I've complained about…read moretheir practice but nothing changes. Problem every few years they send out new ATM/Debit Cards in the mail. I never pay attention to the yr I'm going to receive a new card. When the card arrives I can immediately start using the card WITHOUT calling a number to activate the new card by putting in a password or going to the ATM Machine putting in my password to activate the card. This is wrong. My neighbor which I get there mail often being delivered by mistake to my address could have taken this card for example to Walmart and bought the most expensive TV by going through Casher Line and then slide my new card in the machine and then get the receipt and walk out of the store with it. In this day and time SRP should protect my account better than this. My other bank Security Federal uses safer practices to protect my money than SRP. I live in North Augusta, SC. I've asked an employee to have the Manager call me about this matter but never get a returned call. My email is: sunrisesandjudy@gmail.com. If you want to tell me you're going to change your unsafe practices. Another thing almost 2 yrs ago I wasted 30 minutes of my time to open up a Estate Acct. Then to be told I could not open it. They said because 30 yrs ago I had opened up all of the accounts in my name and 20 years ago added my husband's name to the accounts that because he wasn't the original account holders name but the one who passed away I could not open up the Estate Acct. So after wasting all that time in the bank I had to go to my other bank Security Federal in North Augusta which was they same situation and open the Estate Account there. SRP this is silly not assisting your long time customers this way. I could give a few other examples of how things are handled at this bank that don't make sense but don't have time for it.

SouthState Bank

SouthState deserves 0 stars, but that is not an option here so they get the minimum 1 star. I don't…read morenormally spend time reviewing a company when their performance is moderately bad, but this bank is exceptional so they get special attention. This review is specific to the mortgage dept. First, funds to dealer. We applied through a dealer, and was approved for a mortgage on a manufactured home. The amortization schedule showed funding to the dealer in two installments. We were given the task of notifying SouthState once the home was set up on site. We called and let the closer know the home was assembled and level, but the remainder of setup (underpinning, porches, electrical, HVAC, & punch list) remained. I assumed 1/2 of the funds were to be distributed upon delivery and the rest when setup was complete. The closer sent all of the mortgage funds to the dealer upon notification of delivery to the site. Fortunately for us, the dealer completed the setup as agreed, Second, online banking deficiencies. I setup online banking at SouthState to make payments and manage our account as we intended to pay the mortgage off after the sale of our house. Even though we applied for and obtained a mortgage, the online setup could not find a "mortgage" associated with the loan number. I had to set up online banking as a personal loan account like an auto loan. I was able to link my checking account, and my intention was to transfer funds when available to pay off the loan. Incredibly, the link only allowed me to see the balance of the linked account - no ability to make payments from, or transfer funds. The link was useless. Third, handling of payments. After funds were available from the sale of our house, I attempted to use BillPay to pay the loan off. Being handicapped, I wanted to avoid trips to the bank and post office, not to mention the hassle and fees associated with obtaining a payoff, wiring funds, or obtaining and mailing a cashier's check. Unfortunately, there was a $9,999.99 limit on a BillPay payment at my credit union. No problem I thought, I would just sent a $9,000 payment every day until the loan was paid off. Unbelievably, SouthState did not post the payments on the delivery dates indicated by BillPay - funds were posted no earlier than 5 business days, and most were 10 or more days later. All other bills I pay with BillPay are credited in a maximum of 3 business days if an EFT is used. A maximum, 5 business days if a check has to be mailed. No EFTs with SouthState. When I called to complain about the delayed payment posting, they said they didn't delay payment credits, and blamed the USPS. However, all pending payments made were suspiciously posted on the day of the call. Payments following the call, however, continued to have delayed postings. Fourth, escrow funds. The amortization schedule showed an escrow withholding from each MONTHLY payment as you would expect. We made 14 payments within a one month period. Escrow was deducted from EVERY payment. After payments were sent sufficient to pay the loan in full, I called and complained requesting they close the escrow account and credit the loan balance. The representative said they would correct the excess withholding and credit the loan balance with any excess escrow. They continued, however, to deduct escrow on each payment when posted. The escrow balance was never credited before the final payment was posted. This left a large (over $1,000) escrow balance to be refunded, and they closed my loan account - not just the escrow account. Fifth and last, incompetence, poor communication, and no refund. We received a voicemail on 11/29/2021 notifying us that our account had been closed and a refund would be mailed to the current address. As of Saturday 1/8/2022, no refund from SouthState. Since they closed our account, I can't go online to see if there has been any activity regarding the escrow or a refund. SouthState is a horrible place to do business.

I really wish I could put 0 stars, If you were ever thinking of finding a new bank and have thought…read moregoing using South State Bank, please do yourself a favor and stay far away from them. I'm usually never the type to waste my time with posting about how bad a company is or has become but the transition from Ga bank&trust up until how they function now has been pretty terrible. 20+ years of dealing with this bank in the Augusta area and my parents even longer, it honestly sucks seeing a company go so down hill after a transition period.
