I had a driving exam as part of my renewal process. Danny was professional and highly knowledgeable and experienced driving instructor. He took time to point out every little mistake I was making so that I had a chance to correct it before my exam. His instruction really made a difference. I passed my exam with only one minor mistake. Highly recommend! read more

Regent Driving School - Driving Schools Near Me - San Francisco, California

I took advantage of the empty streets during Covid 2020 to teach my daughter how to drive. Instructor Danny Chow, after three 2-hour lessons, enhanced her driving skills by teaching her how to drive the proper "DMV way" so she could pass the driving test at the Daly City location. She passed with ease on her first try! Thank you, Danny, for successfully training both of my daughters...and sorry, I have no other children for you to instruct! I would highly recommend Regent Driving School and ask for Danny Chow. read more

I am a little late into the driving game, living in major cities my whole life, but finally decided to get my license after bajillion years. I researched a lot of schools and they are pretty expensive in SF or have not so great reviews. I found another instructor through Craigslist few years back, but gave up on driving after that because the instructor was nervous all the time and would suddenly yell at me which made me nervous and tense - and I definitely did not learn anything. Thanks to yelp, I found this school and Eric is such a great instructor. He is always prompt and communicative. Even if I made a mistake, he always remained calm and gave constructive feedbacks. I passed my test on my first try after 4 lessons. 3 lessons would have been enough but I just wanted extra practice and lessons parallel parking and freeway which are not part of the test. I highly recommend Eric for all level learners! read more

It was helpful because- well how could 2 hours of intense driving not be helpful? However, my instructor was very very difficult to understand, would forget to tell me where to turn and then get frustrated, randomly decide to turn my wheel when absolutely unnecessary, and unnecessarily used his own brake/gas when everything was running smoothly. Picked me up and dropped me off on time. Car was acceptable, loudest brakes I've ever heard, hurt my ears every time I lightly pressed on them. read more

Danny was excellent with me. Always picking me up on time and dropping me home. on the Behind the Wheel Test he came with me, waited for me to finish the exam and dropping me home! He has been doing this business for over 30 years so he know the city inside out. The reason why i chose him was the price! it is actually not a rip off compare to any other school. Well worth it!!! Thank you Danny and good luck. patricia. read more

At 30 years old, I had tried a few times to get my license but without success. I was determined to learn to drive but didn't want to spend a fortune on lessons. I found Regent driving school through Yelp and requested Eric. He was very patient with me and was flexible with lesson times. I really appreciated his help and suggesting i take the test in Daly City. While I didn't pass on the first try, I passed on the second! I'm so happy to have my license and I plan on calling eric again for more driving practice. thanks! read more

I'm so glad Eric was my driving instructor. I'm a slightly older student. I moved to the city when I was 18 and never got around to obtaining my driver's license. I also had a bit of a hang-up on driving; San Francisco is known for its extremely angry drivers, plus I was less than confident in my ability to navigate the city's narrow and confusing streets. Eric got me through all that. Eric is consistently calm and supportive. I drove with him for more than 3 months, yet never ONCE did he scream or raise his voice at me. (You can't expect that from your own parents or friends!) I made many mistakes during the hard process of learning how to drive, but Eric gently guided me through them. He gave constructive criticism without making me feel bad. He also guided me through the DMV on test day (he knew which lines to wait in, where the bathroom was located, how to get out of there quickly, etc.). He was a great source of moral support as I was waiting for my test to begin - without him there, I don't think I could have passed. Thank you for everything, Eric! I highly recommend this guy. He's patient, reasonably priced (especially compared to other schools in the city), and super easy to make an appointment with. I found my lessons with him to be calm and reassuring - I'll try to remember Eric's easygoing manner when I'm faced with San Francisco traffic in the future! read more

My teenage daughter got her permit, so it was time to find an instructor, but the thought of having her get into a car with a stranger was very unnerving. I took a leap of faith when I saw the yelp review for Regent and am glad I did. Eric has the right demeanor to be a driving instructor (it's not a job for the faint hearted). He's soft spoken, patient and gives good feedback. I was able to give him instructions on where I wanted her to practice because no sense in learning where traffic is light. Although we live in the suburbs, at least twice she drove in San Francisco, through the Sunset, Richmond, and I think almost into downtown. My daughter had her six hours with him, and we supplemented with our lessons (I'm taking credit, but it's really my husband). We paid for him to teach her for an hour before the lesson, and he booked the appointment for us. She passed on her first try! YAY! We're still not letting her drive alone yet, but we will soon. I'm also contemplating on having him go with her for a few more hours. read more

Eric is literally the best driving instructor around. I have trained with other instructors so I can really vouch for how good he is. He is very invested in making you learn all the rules and techniques correctly. At the same time, he is very patient and let's you take control (essential to build that confidence for tough SF roads). I got my license at the very first try with no prior experience in driving and Eric has a big part to play in it. On the day of the test, he also patiently explained the DMV paperwork process and was just around to help me stay calm. read more

Danny Chow taught me and many of my friends how to drive, and I really recommend him as a driving instructor. He is polite, patient, and he knows what's up; he knows the common mistakes that new drivers --and all drivers-- tend to make, and he gives really helpful tips. He explains procedures clearly and knows all the best spots to bring you to practice whatever it is you need to practice (parking, turning, freeway, driving test, etc). He goes by $26/hr and any time that he arrived late, he charged me less. Sure, he makes you drive to the coffee shop and park so he can grab a cuppa, but he has things to do, too right? I think he is very fair and a wonderful instructor! read more

I just moved to SF from Australia. I already had 10+years of driving experience but on the right side of the car. So I took a few hours of lessons and I passed my test in a week. Highly recommended as I got pretty good tips on what the examiner was looking for and I was shown the various potential test route. The price was $55/2hrs and I got picked up and pretty much left off where I needed to be. However be aware that for testing day, it is $95. read more

I was looking for a driving instructor who can teach me how to drive after I got my permit. Fortunately, I came across Regent Driving School and I was able to work Danny. Danny is a great driving instructor who taught me many skills to become a defensive driver! Nothing but wonderful service coming from Danny. He offered free pick up and free drop off considering that I lived across town from where his office was! It was a great and wonderful experience to have Danny as a my instructor from June-December of 2017. I would totally recommend working Danny because you'll can learn a lot from him as a beginner driver! read more

I did some research on driving schools in San Francisco. Most of these schools charge $100 up for a driving session. Then I found Regent Driving School through Yelp. I called up Danny Chow and set up an appointment. He was on time, on schedule. He's pretty nice and knowledgeable about what he's doing; according to him, he's been teaching for over two decades. I think that the best experience with him is when he addresses common mistakes and misconceptions made by drivers, especially newbies. His tips and tricks definitely help a lot! Aside from his teaching experience, he's also pretty familiar with the DMV system. He discusses the score system and what you need to know about it. Overall, Danny Chow is prompt, polite, patient, and friendly. I would definitely recommend him. And oh, btw, I passed my behind-the-wheel test on my first attempt! Yay! read more

I grew up in New York City, so getting a driver's license wasn't a priority in my life until I moved out here. How was I going to get this done here and now? I did some browsing on Yelp and Regent seemed to offer the most reasonable price (at $56/two hours, compared to $120 in many other places) and had instructors who speak fluent English (and Cantonese). My instructor was Eric Wong, and it was a really great match. He was pretty flexible with the schedule and came to pick me up at my address (along w/ drop off). We drove around Daly City where my road test was, and he knew the routes well and was very meticulous with giving feedback. I really appreciate that he's also a calm and chill instructor, so it was not stressful at all. I felt really prepared, and I was! I passed my road test after about a month of preparation (2-3 lessons a week?) and it was in large part due to my lessons with Eric. I practiced only during our lessons and when I went home to NYC for a week, so if you can get some practice (with friends or family) in between lessons, you'd probably do great too. I highly recommend this place! I'm even going to take a couple more lessons to get more comfortable driving on the freeway. read more

I heard about Danny Chow through my parents and cousins. They knew him and he happened to be one of my cousin's friends so he is pretty much like my family friend as well. My mom and cousins said that he is a very good driving instructor. I was thinking about finding him to be my driving instructor, but my dad some knew a friend who also happens to be a driving instructor. His name is Sam Li, he was my driving instructor. read more

Very friendly person, good instructor. He's english was not that good but that should not matter. He knows everybody in the DMV. Great price $120, took me from home and drove me back home in SF, drove 1h in Daily City and took the driving test, including the waiting took total 3h. Didn't give 5 stars only cause hes car was older 10+y old toyota corola read more

I had a quick 'catch up' driving lesson today.. DMV messed up my behind the wheel driving exam - twice (they then booked an appointment at the Oakland office) but with the Bay Bridge closed I really wasn't in the mood. Danny offered to take my papers and sort it all out at the SF office. He did it in about 8 minutes! while I just waited in the car :) AWESOME!!!!!!!! Also, Danny charges very little for an hour, he really should charge more. He seems like a very busy little man - but he gets the job done. 4 stars Mr Chow! read more

I hated the idea of driving, and had to sign up for driving lessons out of necessity. After the first hour with Eric, not only my tension and nervousness started to disappear, but I actually realized that I was enjoying driving. For every subsequent lesson, I started looking forward to the 2 hours of navigating around San Francisco under his guidance. I passed my behind-the-wheel test today, and I'm really happy that I Eric as the instructor. read more

I would highly recommend Eric Wong to anyone in the Bay Area looking for a great driving instructor. Eric is the ideal driving instructor: clear, friendly, and provides helpful, detailed driving feedback in addition to being on-time (if not a few minutes early to each lesson) and easy to schedule lessons with. He also goes through the various potential driving test routes with you so you'll be comfortable on test day as well as aware of any potential 'tricks' that a novice driver might tend to overlook. I took 4 lessons with Eric and felt more than prepared for my driving test. I took it once and passed the first time. Highly recommend, Eric! read more

I've taken 3 classes with Eric and found him to be an extremely prompt, calm, and informative instructor. I got my license 8 years ago in Orange County but didn't drive more than 10 hours before getting it and never considered driving alone given my lack of experience. Essentially - I had zero driving experience. I finally decided to start lessons in the city and found Regent to be really decently priced at $65 for a two hour lesson. Eric was always on time with his Toyota Yaris and let me schedule my appointments via texts which I actually appreciated. His English is very good and he's a super friendly and chill dude while staying very focused on making sure you're driving around safely. Every lesson started with me jumping right into the driver's seat and driving around the various neighborhoods of SF so while I still don't have enough experience to actually drive around the city by myself I at least have the confidence that I can eventually after I get more practice. :) If you've been considering taking lessons I definitely recommend giving Eric at Regent a try! read more

I had few driving lessons with Eric, and I am satisfied. He is good teacher, adequate and nice. He was never late, explained clearly, and price was about $55 per 2 hours, wich is not expensive. But I don't like another school's driver instructor, don't remember his name (I called him when Eric was on vacation). He was so stupid so couldn't arrange our meeting by phone, he asked my adress about 100 times, same thing about time of lesson and reasons I called him etc. I couldn't stand it more than 10 minutes and just called in another school. read more

I have a DL from another country and needed to get ready for the test and get a car for the test. The driving instructor took me on a one hour lesson and showed two possible routes for the driving test + reviewed the form used by the tester. On test day he picked me up 1 hour early so we had time to do some more practicing before the test and I passed! He is professional, affordable, and knows his way around in the DMV which really helps relieve stress. I highly recommend him! read more

To my instructor's apparent surprise, I passed my driving test with flying colors. The reason for his surprise? After the first day of instruction with him, he pretty much did everything you're not supposed to do to any driver of any skill level: He would tap my arm multiple times to give me directions as if his yelling the same word multiple times wasn't enough. This obviously made -for lack of a better term- freak out when I drove with him in the car. I had already driven in the past with a permit, but never got around getting my license, so while I had practiced driving, I wanted to make sure I knew how to drive in SF. Being with him behind the wheel was a seriously stressful situation and always made me leave with a feeling of unpleasantness. He also cancelled and postponed our appointments multiple times which I found annoying, but I guess it helped me save money in the end. I saw him a total of three times. Despite the fact that my experience with him almost made me lose confidence in my driving skills, I decided to just take the behind the wheel test to get it over with. Unlike other reviewers, I wouldn't say that language was a barrier due to the fact that his commands to me were clear in English. read more

After spending over $1200 for 30 hours at the "Uniworld Driving School" ( that clearly wants you to fail) , Regent Driving School was the best solution for me. Pretty good price, don't have to wait for a month for your appointment @ the DMV, plus best, and I mean best attitude, support and instructions. Who cares if the guy is 5 minutes late if he really wants you to pass the exam. I did. This guy really knows what they want to see at the DMV for you to score your best, and he teaches you exactly that. If you have failed your exam before, this is the place to go. read more

Just like many teenagers living in San Francisco, I had no license. But I finally decided to get it after lagging for so long. Before coming to Regent Driving School I had some experience driving but didn't feel completely ready to take my behind the wheel test. Here, I got lessons from Eric. Prices are a steal! 2 hours for $60. Originally, I tried to schedule an appointment online at daly city but the next available time wasn't for a month. However, Eric helped me schedule my behind the wheel test and was able to get me a appointment the following week, yay! Overall the lesson was very straight forward, Eric corrected me on my mistakes and taught me what I would lose points on during the test. Also, he brought me to daly city and showed me the route I would take during my real test. Without this I probably wouldnt have passed on the first try! Thanks Eric! read more

Having failed the driving test twice, I searched for a driving instructor who could point out what was wrong with my driving. I found this place on Yelp, and asked for Eric. I had one two-hour lesson to prepare for my upcoming driving test. He was punctual and gave good driving advice in a calm, professional manner. While I was driving, he had KOIT lite rock on the radio and that helped me be more comfortable behind the wheel (I was a nervous driver at the time). We went over the three possible driving test routes several times over the two-hour lesson and I definitely felt better about my driving at the end. The third time's the charm--- I passed my driving test! At $56/two hours, this is as cheap as you can get without going to an inferior driving school. read more

I was always looking forward to my lessons with Eric. He was easy to make appointments with, patient and knowledgeable. I was driving in busy parts of the city, going up San Francisco hills and flying 60 mph on highways, which made my fear of cars around suddenly vanish and never come back. With Eric's support I knew I was capable of doing all these things already in the process with no time to worry about it in advance. We drove all around Daily city DMV and I got familiar with the main routes, intersections and challenging moments. If I made a mistake Eric would calmly point it out and explain if needed, never raised his voice and was always professional. read more

Since it was summer, I wanted to learn how to drive before I went off to college. My younger brother took lessons from Regent with Danny Chow and he was able to complete his lessons in 6 hours! I called them to see if Danny Chow was available, but fortunately he wasn't avaliable because then I wouldn't have met my great instructor, Eric Wong. He is by far the best driving teacher ever! My previous instructor fell asleep on me, so Eric was way better because he was awake and alert at all times! When he first came to pick me up, he let me in the driver's seat. He explained everything in detail and he would never get annoyed when I asked stupid questions multiple times. Although you may be driving around a block for 1 hour or so, it still seems so fast! The lessons went by really fast and before I knew it, I was done and I got my license! I only took about 5 lessons with him and I was able to get my license in my first try! So it's all thanks to Eric for teaching me all the skills I needed to pass my test! He also knew all the routes of the test, so when i took the test it was just like driving with Eric! Thank you, Eric, for helping my cousin and I! (= The pricing is also really reasonable and cheap! You get more than what you pay for! $56 for 2 hours is really reasonable! I highly recommend Eric if you want to have an instructor or if you need to learn anything! He's very knowledgable too! Calm, Cool, & Collective person! & has a steering wheel that's easy to turn! Thanks again Eric! ^___^ read more

So it had been a few years since I got my driver's license, and I needed a refresher course. Friend recommended David Chan from this driving school. We went through some of the things that I wanted to work on since it had been a while, and overall am quite pleased with how things went in the two hours (drove through busy city streets + freeway, and parallel parking which is something I actually never really did with my last driving instructor a few years ago). He does not waste time (or words), so you'll definitely get your two hours worth. His English isn't that great, so if Cantonese is your preferred language, pick him. read more

I PASSED!!!! All thanks to Eric. All the positive reviews about him are true. I'm glad I went with my guts and scheduled an appointment with him. He is so flexible, always worked with my schedule and always on time. He's super nice, calm, and patient. I'm one of those people who was in a complete hopeless case about driving but as soon as I started driving with him I got over all my fears. Of course I freaked out a few times on my first couple lessons but he helped me stay calm and learn through trial and error but he didnt let me make any critical mistakes. I caused him too much stress on my driving test day because I was so nervous and wanted to back out because I didn't feel confident enough but he pushed me to go for it and I am so very thankful that I did because now I'm a licensed California driver!!! Every single penny was worth it! Thanks again, Eric! Highly highly recommended!!!! read more

Eric is very nice and patient. He is calm and gives you the confidence to drive in the city. Still a five out of five! My sister recently called up this place to learn how to drive and got her license in a jiff. :)

I drove with Danny for about 7 lessons. I started driving in residential areas before in more busier streets. Initially, I found him somewhat annoying; He complained a lot. However, after a few lessons, our communication improved. I corrected a few of my bad driving tendencies and passed the dmv driving test. So I guess it was worth it in the end. read more

I have been driving for many years in France but recently moved to California. I took the one hour lesson followed by the driving test, for $95. I forgot to ask the instructor's name but he was very good. The test was at 9am and he arrived at my house bang on time at 8am. He had me drive to the DMV and then around the three test circuits that they have, all the while gently correcting the bad habits I've picked up over the years. After the lesson I was confident that I knew what to expect in the test, and I passed it without problems. The only mistakes I made were ones that the instructor had warned me about, so I've no-one to blame but myself. My only reason not to give five stars was that it was occasionally a bit hard to understand the instructor's Hong Kong accent. read more
