I think we all…read moreknow how difficult it is to find a new stylist even though you have recommendations from friends; not all are a good fit - right?! It has been very difficult for me, I'd been searching for a few years but was never really happy. I wanted a Pixie but I didn't think any of them REALLY listened to me; that is until I cold called Canyon Salon. I have extremely baby fine hair and over the last few years it has thinned out so I was looking for a haircut that made me look like I had more hair but one my thin fine hair would support. I was then assigned to Taylor Gilday. I was nervous at my 1st appt but my philosophy is "hair grows back"... I showed up and immediately was impressed that Taylor was at the front desk waiting for me! She has the most beautiful red hair and her bubbly, friendly personality was like a whole welcoming committee. I'm thinking, this is a good start.... She seats me down at her station and we talk; she's asking me what my thoughts were and we discuss my hair and what I wanted, the problems I have and my concerns. Let me tell you, I'm almost 70 yrs old so I've had a few stylist in my lifetime and I've NEVER had one that took as much time as Taylor did to get to "know" my hair and what I wanted. It was a shock tbh. My previous tries at a Pixie haven't turned out as what I had envisioned, they were, ummm, in a word - bad. When I went to Taylor, I don't know what I was sporting but it certainly wasn't a Pixie by any stretch of the imagination. I was the poster child for "Don't let this happen to you!" I maybe 70 but I don't want to look like an old lady; I still want style. After our extensive talk I asked Taylor what she ultimately thought, was what I was asking for unattainable? She was very honest with me and advised she would need at least 2 tries to get my vision and asked me to trust her and give her the 2 haircuts. I agreed, I had nothing to lose and like I say, it's hair, it'll grow back. She gave me the 1st cut, targeting the areas I had problems with and I walked out with hope. Eight weeks later I went in for the 2nd haircut and left with the BEST haircut I've had in YEARS! I knew right then and there that Taylor was my new "forever" stylist! Taylor is exceptionally good at conversing with her clients; she listens and understands her clients wants, needs, and concerns like no other stylist I've visited and she is amazing at cutting hair. A.MAZ.ING! Contrary to popular belief, Pixies are not an easy style to cut but believe me when I say Taylor knows how to cut a Pixie. And if she can cut a Pixie, she can cut any precision haircut. She is that good! I cannot recommend Taylor Gilday highly enough; I don't know what I would do without her expertise; she's phenomenal!!!

My depression can also make it difficult for me to advocate for myself or speak up when something is wrong, which is why I've previously just paid for add-ons I didn't receive. I know I need to speak up, but I also wish there were a better system to make sure booked add-ons are actually communicated to the stylist. Each studio is beautifully decorated with top of the line fixtures, is amply sized, and as private as you want it to be. Unfortunately, Frida only colored the top half of my hair, leaving the underneath and lower lengths completely black and untouched, as you can see in my photos -- live photos I took myself. The top was also yellow/brassy after just one wash. Basically, half the job was never done. I went back and gave her the opportunity to fix it. She scheduled an appointment, then canceled it herself and told me to see another stylist. She never responded to my follow-up message. I also contacted the owner, Kylie, hoping for a solution. After following up myself, I was told there would be no new appointment, no correction, and no refund. That was their final decision. I had previously visited this salon three times with Taylor and had always been happy. What a disappointing experience this time. $450 for unfinished work and absolutely no customer care afterward. She applied a spray mixture of conditioner and water and NOTHING else. I will admit she was a good conversationalist to my daughter but I was not paying for conversation. My first review: When I walked into the salon I instantly felt at home. The environment is quiet, inviting, clean, artsy, and relaxing. I had an appointment with Kathleen, who is a very kind, open, and friendly person. She is a very experienced hair dresser having been in this business for 34 years! She took the time both over the phone and at the beginning of my appointment to discuss what I wanted to have done with my hair, and not once did she try to push me in a different direction. I had a cut, condition, partial highlight to touch up my new growth, and a blow-out. I was very pleased that no color or hair bleaching agent touched the ends of my hair, avoiding any breakage. Also, what Kathleen considers a partial highlight covers a lot more of my hair than what some salons consider a partial highlight, so I felt like I got a great value. Most importantly, the entire appointment only took about 90 minutes because Kathleen is so attentive. I have long wavy hair that tangles very easily, and I was very impressed by how easily and quickly she managed my hair! I was her only client, and she gave me her full attention so that I was in and out in a very reasonable time. My hair turned out even better than I expected.
