You didn't specify which one your mother was in. Our encounter was with the assisted living section. If your mom was in assisted living, I am hopeful that my critical online review of my mother's stay at Stratford ALF, and her passing away as a result of their substandard care, resulted in the facility making changes to improve their deficiencies.   Above all, I want to see families' loved ones receive the quality care they rightfully deserve. They helped us in every way to make the atmosphere feel right at home by giving us the ability to make it "her room." I have never found a reason to speak negatively upon how they treated us here at Stratford Court. They give a type of personal attention that made our family rest easier every time we left. I am truly grateful for all the incredible service that they provide and hope that you can see that myself, as well as others, have a positive experience from joining the Stratford residence. The staff--from Abby to Grace and the entire team in every cottage--deserve recognition for their attentiveness, compassion, and support toward both residents and family members. The cottages are consistently clean and well maintained. Meals are nutritious, balanced, and served on time every day. Even when I was away for the summer, I felt confident knowing my mother was in good hands. The staff communicate regularly about residents' health and behavior, sharing both positive updates and any concerns promptly. My only suggestion for improvement would be to ensure better management of personal clothing items, as they were occasionally misplaced or taken by other residents. The director, Dawn Grady, is a horrible human being who only cares about filling the place and residents are dying due to neglect. I regret sending my mother to Pacifica Bellair for the 8 months that she resided there, ending up with a huge hematoma that bled for two weeks. One of the residents, a little old lady that lived in the same cottage than my mother, was sent to the hospital with maggots in her legs and private parts. She died in the hospital. This place SHOULD BE CLOSED and Dawn Grady should not be working with our fragile loved ones.

The…read moreapartments are lovely and unlike some other places, these have a washing machine and dryer in each apartment. The food is excellent, and the activities are fun and entertaining. Other facilities have a common laundry, at one place, two per floor and two washers and two dryers (occasionally non-working) and it is often difficult to get a machine. There is no exorbitant fee you pay at entrance as there is at some other facilities. (Not usually given the name, Entrance Fee, of course.) Coral Oaks requires only monthly rent and that is all that is gone should you choose to move.

This retirement home used to be The Inn on the Pond and was excellent; it was very expensive…read morecompared to other homes in the area, but seemed worth it based on the quality of life its residents enjoyed. Unfortunately, a couple of years ago there was a change of management, and now the place is called The Preserve and is as pricey as ever, but the level of care and service has dropped off significantly. There are still lovely and capable people working there, but the management has cut back on the number of staff, such that for much of the day there's only one person on duty per floor, and if that person is on break, it might mean one staff person might be asked to cover *two* floors' worth of residents. (That's what I observed last time I visited and was shocked.) So if more than one person needs help at the same time, it can mean a lot of waiting. And old people often do need help. My elderly relative fell, and no one responded to her call for help for over half an hour. They also wake up some of the residents at 5:00 a.m. (breakfast is at 8:00 a.m.) because they don't have enough staff to wake everyone up at 6:30 or 7:00. So some people get woken at 5:00 a.m. or 6:00 a.m. and then they sit around waiting for breakfast time. The quality of the food served at meals has also declined dramatically. And I also noticed that some of the group activities that used to all be led by staff members are now being led by residents instead (e.g. song hour). I guess eldercare is a for-profit business. The Preserve has attractive grounds and a very nice building. I have no idea if other places in the area are better run. Having seen this place provide such better service in the past, I can't help finding all these developments really disappointing.

The building has been repainted inside and out, new carpeting, beautiful new furniture, fountains and landscaping front and back, etc. The staff are all very helpful, caring, and personable. The food tastes great and the presentation is pleasant. My one suggestion is that I would like more activities to be offered onsite. Im very happy that my relative is a resident here and quite satisfied that she is being taken care of.

Jeannie walked me through the process, while I was panicking. It was not an easy transition, which is apparently quite common. The location is good, the apartments are two-room, so you feel as if you are living in a real apartment, not a dorm room. The location is excellent, with a lovely outdoor area for sun and fresh air, that overlooks a lake. Now, some months later, we are so glad she is at the Gables. Care givers are lovely and friendly, Mom has made friend with other residents. She's exercising and playing games. She's gone on some of the outings, as well. Dee and Michael are outstanding activities leaders. Lance, Kim, Lisa and the rest of the PT team is fantastic. No, it is not perfect. They have "adequate" staff, which means if your parent needs 2 person transfer, they wait longer. Adequate is not always enough. But, overall, Mom is happy, we're generally happy with her care, the food is not awful (as it was at rehab) and Sheila and the staff genuinely seem to care about residents.
