We were impressed enough to get on their waiting list for the future. The grounds are impressive for those people who enjoy recreating outdoors. The interior of what we call the "4 plexes", which are independent living, are absolutely beautiful and spacious. We have not yet tried their cuisine but have heard it's terrific. As a continuing care community, WB operates differently than most other senior housing places, so it's up to us to check out all the differences. They no longer offer skilled nursing or rehab as of this date, though they have a close relationship to a nearby rehab location. Despite being operated by a church organization WB appears to be welcoming to all. I checked out their Board of Directors and was really impressed with the depth of experience it represented. A friend and I have been touring a lot of senior housing complexes over the past several years and WB really stands out.

My mom's care could have been covered by Medicaid. I asked for a discount on the remaining balance given the wrong info that was provided by their new marketing person. This was refused. This is not a nursing home with nurses on site 24/7. As a result, we experienced delays in medication changes. This was not disclosed or explained. As a retired RN, I advocated for my mom. At times, this was met with resistance. However, ultimately, the communication and care improved during my mom's last days before her death.

The food is terrible (it is left out for hours and hours-so there is little or no food safety) and there is little to no engagement for the residents. They are told to go to bed when they ask for help or are confused. I have seen the residents mocked when they are having an episode. The owner is very caring and sweet to the residents but she is rarely around and trusts that the place is being well taken care of in her absence but because the caregivers often work 24 hours a day, for weeks at a time, they are burned out and resentful of the residents. They get angry when the residents have accidental bowel movements and one of the caregivers said to the resident "everyone knows when they have to poop, maybe you shouldn't eat so much if you can't control your poop." The caregivers seem to resent their jobs and are put out when they have to help the residents, complaining about how hard the job is. My mom was even given double her dose of medication and it is a very strong, dangerous medication. Luckily my mom was fine. The caregivers do not get along with each other and have had screaming fights in front of the residents and their family. I had my mom in residence for about 6 months before I moved her home. I would absolutely not recommend this adult family home.

First, I have only visited this GenCare location twice in the past month - haven't lived there…read more(yet). However, the residents I talked to while visiting have lived there in some cases for ten years so obviously they were pleased. The staff are all very nice and helpful, particularly Sue and Roxie who both gave us tours and answered my many questions. They have 62 rooms, so it's not one of the larger places. I've visited over ten other senior housing locations north of Everett, many quite nice, but this one is top of the list at this point. Their rates are below every other place I've visited, though possibly not the lowest in the region. They are currently upgrading rooms as they are vacated with new laminate flooring and granite countertops. Other upgrades to the common areas are in the works. The rooms, even the studios which seem like one bedrooms (they have one bedrooms and just 7 two bedrooms), are much larger than any other location. Ditto on the amount of storage in the rooms. Place is really clean. They are most accommodating regarding pets and would allow guinea pigs whereas other places stick to the dog/cat thing and often have more restrictions. There is a fitness trainer (and equipment) for no extra charge and she works with various PTs from outside. Lots of other plusses which you'll need to see on their website. Granite Falls is still a very small town but has most of the amenities anyone would require and is around 10 miles from two hospitals. I guess the only aspect of this place that's still uncertain is the routine quality of the food. We attended an open house brunch so I suspect some of the food needed to be prepared ahead of time. It needed to be hotter. Eggs were good, they had quality gluten free toast, home fries were good but needed to be crisped up, coffee was excellent. We skipped the Mimosas. My husband's bacon was sad and floppy and he'd asked for it crispy, which might have been too much to ask for a large event. Service was top notch. This is the only place that offers gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and a couple of other special diet menus. Too soon to really judge their food fairly but we received a free return visit meal voucher so I may check it out. This place is worth adding to your visit list if you are interested in independent or assisted senior living. They also work with residents who have more advanced issues, though don't have a true memory care wing.
