When I was on a hunt for furniture recently, I went into Sofas Direct without even knowing which…read moreshop I was in. After about five minutes though, the store's name would forever be etched in my memory bank because apart from the low quality that was obviously visible in the sofas on the floor, the salesman kept following me around the store. At first I thought it was because he really needed to tell me in-depth information about the features and availability but even after I asked for some time to wander around myself, he persisted on following me around. And as I made my exit, I wondered to myself if perhaps he thought I was going to try and shoplift a sofa and hide it in my little bag. Perhaps theft has happened before and so they are extra careful but I really didn't appreciate being treated that way and his manner really did push me out the door - faster than I could have said goodbye! Needless to say I am not a fan.

The woman working there explained that the factory would make up one in the style and fabrics that we wanted. We liked the style of their sofas; they were almost exactly what we wanted as far as size, shape and style. We put it down on our list as a possible option however in the end we found a sofa at another shop along Church Street that was perfect and at a better price.

I was so excited about ordering my two EKTORP sofa covers in claw-proof velvet. At almost $1200 AUD…read moreit was a big investment but after six months of consideration and examining sample fabrics I decided to go for it. Unfortunately it was quickly apparent that both the size (which was too big on all the cushions and the cover itself was so long that it was draped on the floor) and the colour were not as pictured in reviews - more purple than pink, presuming they had lots of lights on when they did their photoshoot. It was at this point that I realised - to my detriment - that Comfort Works has a ridiculous system designed to take your money. I would have been happy with a 75% refund and to return the goods to the company to sell again, but they (1) will not provide their address to send it back to (2) want you to take numerous photos of your couch, wash it, and spend more money to get it altered to fit (3) are a no refund online company. What was supposed to help me extend the life of my couches and be environmentally friendly has become just the opposite, I have two too-large couch covers that that will likely end up in landfill. Do yourself a favour do not buy from this company, they don't care about the customer, they care about making money, period. AVOID at all costs, literally.

Beyond the vast (and eclectic) range of goods, the service from all staff is exceptional. They are truly willing to go well beyond expectations to make absolutely certain you are happy with your purchase. Having purchased a custom made Salon couch from these folks (that ended up not fitting in the house - long story, but the store is looking after the issue perfectly), I can honestly not sing their praises highly enough. I've read a few reviews from unhappy customers and simply can't understand how their situations arose - you'd really have to try to have a negative experience here.
