In fact, getting bad ones feel so much worse than getting none at all. I'd concede that the best place to get a massage in Manila is in The Spa. You would have a hard time disputing that. It's ridiculously expensive, though. For a budget option, you can set your sights on D.Tuazon where there are a lot of massage places. The one we frequent most is Bali Palace. The massages you get here are decent and if you luck out on the masseuse, really good. The trick is to remember your masseuse's name if you think they're good (or if you think they suck) so that you can request for them the next time, ensuring consistency in the quality of massages you get each time.

Bali Palace is responsible for breaking my massage parlor cherry. I've never have gotten a massage…read morebefore, so my girlfriend treated me to one. She recommended that I get a massage here, because the ambiance is very calm and peaceful, and the masseuses are well trained. First off, they'll ask you to take your shoes off, and they'll have you dip your feet in a bowl of water. The attendants will wash your feet and give you slippers to borrow for the massage session. Then, they take you to a room where they leave you for a few minutes to get changed. After that, the masseuse starts the wonderful experience of getting a massage. The oils they use are very fragrant, but I didn't mind so much. I guess the masseuse noticed that my muscles were pretty tensed up, so she really used all her strength, to a point where it hurt a bit. Regardless, the feeling after was indescribable; like I was rejuvenated for the first time. After the entire session, you'll get a complementary cup of tea, which puts the cherry on top. I really enjoyed my first time at Bali Palace, and I think I'll be open to more different types of massages from now on.

On one lazy Sunday afternoon, my…read moregirlfriend and I saw a big sign outside the Nu Living, "P180 for 1 hour massage, All Day Every Day". This was much cheaper than the typical massage price of P250 an hour, and we immediately had to test this out. In the reception area, there was small chatter from the guests waiting their turn, and from their conversations we figured out the following: 1. The place has been open for more than a year. 2. The promo price of P180 never changed. 3. Their clientele are mostly older people. 4. The products they sell are really good gifts to your in-laws. 5. The lavander oil is better than green tea oil. 6. The staff are very professional and they give excellent massages. And after our one hour massage, we concluded that everything we heard earlier was probably right.

I went ahead and availed of the 1 hour Thai Massage (P300) w/oil (P50). I'm no expert on Thai massage practices but the oil was scarcely used during this session so I recommend you don't avail of it like I did. Rookie mistake but didn't really detract from the great massage experience I had waiting for me. A lot happens within an hour's time. There was never a dull moment in the massage. From stretching, to twisting, to your body being slightly contorted around. After just an hour of massage, my body felt so loose and relaxed. I'm a late sleeper but within an hour or so of arriving home i couldn't help but call it a night. I slept like a baby and woke up feeling rejuvenated and my body completely free of the soreness I was previously experiencing. If you're in the Morato area and having trouble deciding where to get a massage (there's a lot of places in this area) I definitely recommend you give Nuat Thai a try. Pros -Clean and accommodating facility. There's even an upstair area with more rooms if they're a bit slammed. -Affordable services. -Many branches located all over the Metro. -Open late, until 3AM. Last call is around 1:50AM. Cons -Might have to wait a bit for a masseuse during peak times.

But the thing with Nuat Thai is you get what you pay for. Because it's a lot cheaper than other massage places, it tends to get a little crowded, especially during the weekends or holidays. The branch in BF Homes on Aguirre Street has horrible ambiance. Most of the time, the worst of the noise comes from the staff members themselves - you can hear them laughing loudly or talking to each other. The branch along Makati Ave is quieter, although a tiny bit more expensive. If all you want is a quick and cheap massage, then Nuat Thai will do. Their massages aren't bad at all, and if you're very lucky with your masseuse, you'll get rest and relaxation that feels a lot more than you paid for.

You'd have to pass through Classica Tower to get to the other side, and that's where the Nuat Thai entrance is. (To make it easier for you, it's just right beside Gino's Brick Oven in Salcedo village. So why not have a massage before dinner??? Haha, the ultimate way to relax and unwind! Massage and good food.) Anyway, Nuat Thai's prices range from 300 for their normal massages, to 550 for the aromatherapy and hot oil massages. This particular branch is a bit more cramped than what I'm used to, but stepping inside, your nose is assaulted with calming aromatics and you don't even notice how small the place is. Before your massage, you're led towards a dimly lit foot massage area where the masseuse washes your feet first. Afterwards, you're led to a narrow room that is curtained off from other massage beds (or more like, massage mattress, cause they're all on the ground). You're also given some clothing to wear, so as not to soil your clothes with massage oil. Nuat Thai's massages left me feeling loose limbed, and ready to sleep, which I feel like is the best indicator of a good massage!

But this has become quite of a turn-off for me. Hipster kasi ako eh, gusto ko yung mga lugar na konti lang. Hahaha. Kidding! But it did turn me off a little that they had way too many branches I can count. I was afraid their service wouldn't measure up to my hole-in-the-wall massage spas. But I'm glad I was wrong. When Pau and I desperately needed a massage one Sunday afternoon, we had no choice but to go to Nuat Thai in Libis. We were originally planning to go to Mont Albo in Hypermart since we were in Eastwood but unfortunately, they were packed. So I called up Nuat Thai, got us reservations and headed there after 30 mins or so. The service, surprisingly, was pretty good! I wasn't expecting it as I've already told you but I was happy I didn't have high expectations going in. We both got the 1-hour Swedish massage (350 pesos) although their specialty was of course Thai. I'm just not a fan of dry massages so I opted for the Swedish. Pau just followed suit. Hahaha. We were then taken to a foot washing area and then preceded to our conjoined rooms. Relax, there was a curtain in between. Hahaha! The actual massage was okay although my masseuse put in a bit too much weight on my back. I had to remind her from time to time to take it easy. Pag nagpapamasahe kasi ako, I really prefer medium intensity lang. No to hard! Hahaha. She followed naman when I asked her to take it a bit lighter. I didn't fall asleep, which is my ultimate approval that the massage was perfect. But I did feel pretty relaxed afterwards and nabawasan naman mga lamig ko sa likod. They offered some hot towels to wipe off the oil and some hot tea afterwards. It was a nice experience and I'm definitely open to coming back. I'll probably give their Thai foot massage a shot when I return.
