My last cleaning and exam was 9 months ago and they did bite-wing X-rays. The first thing I was told by the hygienist, was that they needed to give me full mouth X-rays. I said I didn't want to do that if my insurance didn't cover it and I really don't want to be exposed to X-rays unnecessarily. Dr. Tobon was obviously either being flagged down by the hygienist or was listening and came in to discuss it. Upon entering the room, he introduced himself and began by saying, "this is my dental practice. I bought it and I own it now and I understand you have some questions." I explained my concerns and then, in a condescending tone and speaking to me like Mr. Rogers does to a child, said that he likes to take X-rays every 6 months. He started telling me stories of how they could miss a cavity and tried to relate stories of the past where people suffered mightily by not having cavities detected. I explained that I haven't had a cavity in 25 years and I would agree to the X-rays if my insurance covered it but I didn't want to do them more than once per year. I further explained that I was being treated for skin cancer and although it's not related, more X-rays instead of less X-rays was not something I wanted. He then went into a long diatribe about how he cares about his patients and was a veteran and other irrelevant information that was supposed to have me let him do whatever he wanted because he is a good guy. He said things like, "I am the professional here." and "We need to have a trust with each other and allow me to do the things I deem necessary because I care about my patients." Further, he was saying if insurance wouldn't cover it, that he would "work with me", as if he wanted me to be put on a payment plan or something to pay for non-covered procedures. Without knowing my situation, background or circumstances, the implication was that I couldn't afford to pay and not that it might be a principle issue of doing no more than what my insurance plan covers or a genuine concern of X-ray exposure. Honestly, he came across as a used car salesman who was trying to get me to succumb to his pushy tactics by making it some melodramatic "trust" issue while basically talking down to me because he is a dentist. (I guess he doesn't get that some people might have more advanced degrees than him) He said "If you think there might be a trust issue between us, maybe you should consider another dentist." Tired of trying to simply get my cleaning, exam, bite wings and the discussion of my crown done, I got up and left. My impression is that he tries to scare people to into procedures and has no understanding of empathy because he is a business owner more than he is a medical professional (as shown by the way he introduced himself).

I have been through several cleaning and maintenance appointments and I start ortho in January. So we have received a good amount of services from them and attended many appointments with them. Everyone is always awesome! The front desk is always friendly and knowledgeable. They are always very on top of paper work and billing procedures. A human answers the phone every time I've ever called (during business hours)!! It amazing. This office gives me the feeling of dentists offices from the past where we weren't patient number blah blah blah.. They've always treated Brian and myself like family and give us the feeling they really care. They know our names and although we typically visit separately because of our schedules, everyone asks "how's Brian?" or "how was the wedding?" Signaling that they've taken the time to remember things about their patients and care about our lives outside of just billing our insurance. This is especially evident in long time employees like Nedra. This woman is amazing. She has a firm but loving way of letting you know what to focus on while not making you feel judged or put down. She relates with empathy while pushing for better from you in regard to your oral hygiene. I so enjoy going here and am very much looking forward to partnering with them on my ortho journey!!

The dentist came in they gave me glasses because the light was advised to be bright, the dentist didn't spend more than 30 seconds looking at me before he said okay you're done, there were not any lights turned on I felt like how could he possibly have done a thorough assessment. I had to schedule a second appointment for a cleaning and I knew I had to take care of a cavity so they told me that if I come in for my cleaning the next day, I can't take care of my cavity because they're tend to work half days on Thursday which I don't know how they can expect that to work for anyone that has a day job. I can't take three consecutive days off just to accommodate the schedule of these dentists. When I explain this to the dentist he promptly said, fine you can go somewhere else. That did not come across as great service and I'm not satisfied with this dentist. I would not recommend going here. Secondly I asked for a quote on my son's wisdom teeth, they printed me a price that was over $3,000. We recalled getting a quote for the same thing 6 months ago and the cost had doubled. I had to ask about this specifically before they realized that they use a different billing code this time and unless I mentioned that the price was different I doubt they would have brought it up. Also if you have a credit with this dentist they will not tell you, unless you ask. This is not a good experience at this dentist. UPDATE: after a comment was made by the business about calling to correct my bad experience, the practice manager advised that she had not read my review and that's her marketing team and they don't have time to read reviews and they don't care about one-star reviews. I questioned everything in my review and there was not any accountability made or apologies for the experience. They said that they only staff one hygienist and if they don't have time, you don't get a cleaning. Don't expect quality service and don't expect accountability from this office for their bad service. UPDATE 2: if you call and give them feedback they will cancel your next appointment without even calling you. They do not want another opportunity to make things right. They ended up deciding they wanted to cancel the relationship with the entire family of three of us in the household that went to this dentist. They didn't care that my wife was halfway through her orthodontic Care. I wanted to give them an opportunity to earn my business back so I kept my appointment but they canceled it without any communication. And then after all of that they text me the same week to ask me about calling their office for scheduling my cleaning.

The doctor was very professional very calm and gentle and very knowledgeable about what he was doing. This dentist office treats a person like family as if they were working on a family member and they just truly truly care about you and want you to have the best experience. And I did have the best experience of my life. I had a few complications with my teeth and gums, but we all worked through it and everything is perfect now thanks to them. They are going to encourage me to come back every six months to get my teeth cleaned, in the past, I would never ever ever consider going back to a dentist to get my teeth cleaned, but this dental company is so good. Dr. Zenner has been great and since I've had so much work done in such a short amount of time I have got to interact with a lot of the staff and everyone is friendly, knowledgeable and seems to be genuinely nice and caring. Plus my teeth look and feel great. I had some pretty bad dental experiences in the past at other dentist offices so I do get a little anxious having to get work done but they have truly made it a great experience it's no longer some daunting scary task I keep pushing off.

Go to the AZ licensing board for Dr Cooke and you'll find the board has taken action against him…read morefor scamming people- filling teeth that had no cavities & giving people too much anesthesia- the board said he gave so much in one case that it could have caused death. Its very frustrating that despite these findings they still allow him to practice- he just got slapped with license restrictions & a requirement to take classes. Be warned and go read the full complaints yourself.
