The food is divine and if you like a slower, relaxed, delicious meal while you're chatting along with your company, nice almost unnoticeable music in the background, a romantic atmosphere then this is the place to be. John is the best front of house and Joyce is a fantastic chef. I would recommend you book up well in advance especially if it's a special occasion, just to be secure, as it's a very popular restaurant. Normally my fiancé and I have a 3 course meal, a bottle of white sauvignon (Old Coach road, amazing) and the bill is around £90. Would recommend to everyone!

Without a doubt, I have to say this is my favourite restaurant. Although I live in Bristol (a good…read morehour and a half away), my wife and I regularly travel to Minehead, just to have a meal at Sashes. Sashes is a unique and wonderful dining experience like no other. John and Joyce (the owners, and team which run the restaurant single handedly) run a fine ship. John runs front of house, and Joyce cooks the delicious food. Why do I like Sashes? I've been going for years, with good reason. My wife and I are always warmly greeted and served delicious food. The steak always comes cooked to perfection, along with any other dish I have ever ordered at Sashes. If you ever wondered if actually liked a particular food, or have just had a badly cooked version, simply try it at Sashes, as you'll never experience it cooked better. Service is prompt and polite. The food is great. The atmosphere is lovely and unique; whilst the max seating in the restaurant is 12, without a doubt, each time, the tables always end up in conversation together at some point or another; you just don't get that at other places. Sashes only does one seating a night, so your table is yours for the evening. The menu changes regularly with the season, so I always see and taste something fresh when I go. Honestly, I couldn't recommend Sashes highly enough. I don't have a bad word to say about it, and I'm very picky on where I go to eat.

This has got to be one of the oldest pubs in South Wales, it's medieval and dates from 1380. This is one of those places that reminds you how small we used to be - I'm only 5ft 7 and I stoop through the worn wooden doors. I havn't eaten here, but there is also a well respected restaurant upstairs offering a good selection of seafood dishes. Dishes include: Brixham Crab Cake with baby leaves and lemon butter sauce (£5.25); Plaice Goujons with paprika and a sweet red pepper tartar sauce (£4.95); Roasted Fillet of Hake with a chorizo and roasted red pepper risotto ith tomato, garlic and orange sauce for £13.95 For the vegetarians on the day I visited there was: Tomato Fondue, Wild Mushroom and Aubergine Bake, finished with garlic crumb and poached egg (£4.95) and Rosemary and Truffle Arancini Risotto with a tomato, red onion and spring onion salsa ( £4.95). The restaurant opening times are Monday to Saturday from 7pm to 9.30pm. They also offer bar meals between 12 and 2 pm Mondays to Saturdays and evening meals Monday to Friday from 6 to 8 pm.

The only other downside was the staff could do with being a little happier too! That being said, the food and the venue were fantastic. We ordered their afternoon cream tea and it was delicious! See the pics for proof. The venue was stunning and albeit needing cleaning, the setup with the back garden and the gorgeous interior was fantastic! It's well worth a visit to Tessa's if you are in the area and it can be very easily reached from Dunster Castle, just a minute away from the National Trust parking lot.

Tessa and Paul specialise in organic fare - but also provide a really impressive range of gluten/dairy free cakes, savoury tarts and pies. They also happily provided soya milk as soon as we asked. Usually finding one gluten free offering on a menu is a bonus, but to find at least half a dozen was absolutely amazing! If only I had reason to visit Dunster more often...
