It's quiet since we were the only guests for our last 3 days. We enjoyed the Bohemian Lair suite which had a full kitchen, nice seating area, king bed and huge bathroom with rain shower. There is a community kitchen and large dining area downstairs. The hosts were extremely accommodating since our flight landed in Merida at 8am, we arrived at 9:30am and were able to drop our luggage and headed for brunch. Alyssa texted at 11am and our room was ready! This is definitely a place to stay while in Progreso! Thank you, Alyssa and Christopher, for a wonderful stay. We are planning to return soon!

Phenomenal place!…read more My wife and I stayed here twice in September 2019. We came back because there's nothing better for the price in Progreso and it is SO peaceful and comfortable! My wife had to stay in the local hospital for two nights due to salmonella poisoning that she had gotten in Cancun two weeks earlier. We had already spent three nights here before things went sideways, and there was nowhere better for her to recover than here. Alyssa the host/owner made sure a room was ready for us and had someone meet us at the door for an early check in. The hotel is beautiful and tranquil, and Alyssa speaks perfect English and Spanish. It's almost like she grew up in Southern California. (She did, lol.) There is one large studio apartment style room and several regular rooms. The rooms and grounds are in the style of a large Merida home. The attention to detail is astounding. The entire place is maintained to U.S./Canadian standards. The fixtures, the decor, the inner courtyard, the pool. Plus, it is essentially an art gallery as well, with high quality art done in every medium and decorating everything. And it's all hidden behind an attractive low key building front. What a find! We paid $75US (off-season) through the hotel website. No TV's and no bathtubs. (But bathtubs are virtually nonexistent in Mexico anyway. Shame.) A/C in every bedroom and hot water always available. In this area those two things are NOT guaranteed. The hotel is away from the craziness of downtown Progreso, if that's what you like. No bar and no restaurant. Full access is allowed to the coffee area and kitchen. But restaurants and bars and tiendas, etc., are all within easy walking distance. The beach is one half block away. One more thing: The sounds are part of the stay! Soft classical or jazz or Sinatra is playing indoors, while a fountain tinkles and birdsong is played outside in the courtyard by the pool. (Oh ya, and the landscaping in the courtyard has flowers and plants all meticulously maintained.) Even though most guests are out early and all day exploring everything there is to do around here, if you get stuck like we were, this is the place!

From the very start when you relax in the lobby with a cool beverage, to the spa service itself, to a taste of chocolate to cap things off, everything is great! They have a variety of different services and packages to suit your budget. Pro tip: eat at the hotel restaurant afterwards!

Called the Experiencia Rosas & Xocolate, it was a four hour experience that included a welcome ritual; a chocolate-based exfoliation; a wrap; a cranial massage; a chocolate tasting and some tea; a massage with hot stones; and a facial with cold stone massage. The spa area was lovely, and they really went all out to make the experience special (rose petals and other thoughtful touches). The staff of the spa were so lovely and made the experience really a relaxing treat. It was also easy to reserve and book via WhatsApp. l highly recommend the spa and that particular experience if you want a bit of R&R on your trip to Merida! What a treat.

5: Location 3: Sleep Quality…read more2: Rooms 4: Service 4: Value 5: Cleanliness I would compare this place to a 2-star hotel in the United States in many ways, but then there is the fact that it appears that they clean practically every single inch of the hotel on a daily basis, the lobby is much nicer and even the terrace and corridors as well. When we first arrived, I was cursing at myself for making such a terrible selection for our stay in Mérida. The room was tiny, barely big enough for the two double beds in it, and the bathroom was tiny with a toilet that had a shower wall sitting so close to it, you couldn't sit down with your legs directly in front of you, unless you didn't have legs. Then I realized, that due to our specifications of having a room with a balcony (for the smoker), we just so happened to be put in the room that seemed like an afterthought or an extension of the hotel, only for people they didn't want to come back. (Ha!) The other rooms I had chances to peak in during the daytime, looked much more logical (no walls in front of toilets), spacious and enticing. I slept okay (not great). I'm not sure if it was the snoring bear in the room, or the level of comfort. Maybe the next reviewer will be the judge. I've got my eyes on some other options for next time... Good luck and happy travels, wherever you end up!

No matter where you're from, this is three star hotel at best ......there was was mold all on the ceiling and the walls of the bathroom and we had the "top of the line" Superior Deluxe room. Right, sigh. There's no fan, vent or windows in the bathroom so that's probably why, but it's visible black mold and a lot of it. You'd think they would try to clean the surface and paint over it but nah they want you to know your shacking it up with mold. The furniture was visibly scuffed up and unappealing- If you care. They had a flat screen TV and there's chairs outside of each room door and the rooms were massive so yay for space to do a cartwheel and burpees The pillows were nice, the fan and aircon worked there was a mini fridge and a safe, meh. We were here for three nights..too many imo. The front desk was nice and housekeeping request were fulfilled fast. Assuming you stay out of the rooms this place is a gem, the fountains and the pool are lovely but once you include the molding underwhelming guest rooms this place is in the three star hotel category.

My review of this place won't be able to offer anymore than all the other excellent reviews for this place but Here are my two cents... Jan and Rita are lovely people who greeted us with a smile; and after a red eye flight and a long drive from Cancun, it was really nice to be greeted by them. We walked into the lobby where Jan brought us something to drink and explained all the places of interest in-and-around Merida. We were then shown to our room which was very clean and had all the amenities you can ask for. In the evening we got meet Ramon who was a wonderful chef and took the time to explain the origin and the thought process behind each of the yucatacan dish we ate -- he is also a very fun loving guy with a good sense of humor. Our dinner was excellent and we enjoyed the "happy hour" from 1830-1930. The water from the swimming pool was very clean and refreshing. Just when we thought things couldn't get much better, Ramon once again surprised us with delicious breakfast the next morning. Overall this was a fantastic place -- I would give it more stars if I could. Thank you Jan, Rita, and Ramon for making our stay so enjoyable. We look forward to see you all the next time around. P.S. Be on the look out for Gio, the adorable pup that follows Jan around.

This is for Johannes restaurant specifically, not the hotel because we haven't stayed there…read more We first visited Johannes about 5 years ago.The food was AMAZING with an ambiance to match. We returned one year later and the food was not bad; different from the first time but we attributed it to maybe an "off day" by the chef. We visited this morning (8/24/26) and I am sad to say the food was downright disappointing. I ordered the huevos motuleños, the same dish I have ordered every single time, and it was such a disappointment! The yolks were hard (not "runny," as I had asked the server). The beans on top of the tortillas were cold and dry. The entire dish was served room-temperature, which is not what I would have expected, particularly since my husband and I were the only customers at the restaurant at the time they opened. I don't understand why the food was served room-temperature. I appreciate the fact that they cook everything to order -- that's part of the appeal of this place, but lukewarm?? Even if it had been boiling hot, the huevos motuleños were painfully lacking in flavor. Had I not experienced great food here previously, I would have assumed that's just how they do things here but I have had great food here previously and I know they can do MUCH better.
