Redwood Theater in Brookings, Oregon is a nice older theater that show many different venues of films. The theater was updated recently and offers food and drink choices beyond a basic theater. One thing that Redwood Theater offers is a "tree house" experience. It is a room that seats approximately 10 people and can be rented for parties and special viewings. read more

Small theater compared to what I was used to. I watched a movie in the smallest of their theaters. The place was very clean. The ticket and food prices were reasonable. I recommend this theater and if we support this business maybe they will continue to bring top of the line movies. I urge everyone to consider this for a date night. read more

Don't pay attention to any bad reviews. This place is amazing. Just like taking a trip back in time. All the commercials before the movie advertised for the town and local businesses which my husband and I appreciated so much, as it shows the beauty, support, and unity of such a special place. Out of towners here. Saw that 'Solo' was opening the weekend we were passing through. We had a great experience! Not sure if movie would sell out before we arrived (from Gold Beach), we reserved tickets online. Did not have to pay for them until we arrived. Great popcorn, and theater was clean! My husband and I enjoyed the love seats, (two-seaters) in the back row. We would def go back! Oh and an adorable Italian restaurant next door, we stopped in for a drink before the movie, had already eaten dinner, but the menu looked amazing. Black Trumpet Bistro. read more

We love this little theater! For one, it sells *real* popcorn with--get this--*real* butter! For another, we can watch a matinee with *real* popcorn and *real* butter--for $17! For a third, it's not owned by a huge, faceless corporation. I find that generally remarkable, as Brookings is a hotbed of corporation-loving tea party fanatics and other idiots. But Redwood Cinema is locally owned. Astonishing, given the brownshirt proclivities of the community. It smells of ... aged wood. And its pre-movie business ads and PSAs are ridiculous and obviously produced by someone--another local almost certainly--who has no friggin' idea what he or she is doing. They're hilarious to watch: we try to spot all the grammar errors and bad font use and silly production errors and clunky shots. They're almost worth the price of admission themselves! The bathrooms are clean--another plus. And the second, smaller theater is absolutely precious. It's like watching a private viewing, it's so small. You really can't lose. Another plus: premieres of feature flicks are always accessible. You're not left to rot in the plaza of some ginormous corporate mall in some ginormous line. Wonderful. I pray this establishment stays open, and free of corporate control. It's truly awesome, an untouched and unblemished fragment of joy from the days when corporations didn't own and control virtually everything, when Ma and Pa businesses were still allowed to exist. read more

These people really don't have thier act together, and all I can say is you presentation is POOR, Hollywood has higher moral standards than these people have for thier presentations, and Hollywood cares more about how much you enjoy your theatrical experience than this theatre does, that's for certain. So we went to see a movie, does it matter which one? OK I'll tell you, it was HP7b, Opening weekend, Saturday night. - So they have already run this movie at least 4 times. First they show a Dolby tag, but the theatre dosen't have Dolby Sound. I've been overlooking this for a while, but what happened next is so unexcusable that I'm thinking a call to Dolby is in order, after all, they don't want their good name involved with this kind of behavior - as well as being Fasle Advertising. Anyway, Dolby Tag comes on a a decent volume, then we get two commercials at an almost negative volume. Full auditorium, everyone straining to hear these stupid commercials. Did we want to see commercials? No, of course not, but if it's on your screen, you better make sure your patrons can hear what's going on. So I went out to say something, and there is the owner/manager.... Me: You really need to turn up the volume. Her: It's just commercials. Me: It's really a poor presentation to leave your audiece straining to hear the audio. Her: The movie will be louder. Me: Have you gone into the auditorium to check the sound? Her: I don't have time to keep adjusting the volume. Me: You should really check what it sounds like in the auditorium... She went back to chatting with some yokle over popcorn. She didn't have time to make sure she was putting on a good show. After refreshing myself in the Privy, back in the lobby, she's still standing there talking about buying new tires for her car or something. She sees me: Her: It's louder now because the previews are on. Me: Does your theatre actually have Dolby sound? Because running that tag when you don't is a LIE. Sje got really flustered at this, and stuttered some before finally getting out :If you don't like it, you don't have to come here. Me: So you don't have Dolby? She wouldn't answer, which was a pretty obvious answer. Me: I guess I won't be back. So Long story short: Dolby tag, normal volume. Commercials, negative volume. Previews, twice volume, Feature, almost good volume. It's a shame really, it's a sweet venue, but every experience there is more and more disappointing. I've watched them remodel and refurbish, but it dosen't matter what the building looks like, if the rest of the experience sucks. read more

Gotta love Redwood cinema.... Walking in for the first time, it's obvious that this is a family run business, and the family couldn't be nicer. From the real butter ladled on your popcorn to the local ads before the film, this place oozes charm. ....it also has a funky vibe that, although I love, may not be shared by out of towners used to their local megaplex. From the ceiling tiles barely hanging on to the floor moving whenever someone walks on it, this is a true communal movie going experience with the locals. The prices are reasonable too! We went Elysium (sci fi movie of the year) at this cinema. Had no idea that the screen we would be viewing it on would be 18' x 12' (approximately). Not much bigger than a premium home theater. And, the screen was made of canvas which was heavily textured and showed in the background of solid colors in the movie (i.e. white walls and stuff). Sadly disappointed. Went to see anchorman 2 and it was sold out, because the Hobbit 2 (in its second week) was occupying the larger theaters). Even though it was the premier week for the Anchorman 2. Unfortunately, we live in this town. So not much choice in never going there again, unless we want to drive to Crescent City (40 mile drive each way). read more

Now with 2 screens, the main one being one of the largest left in Oregon, this theater has great popcorn offering varied toppings for free, first run movies, THX sound system (contrary to previous reviewer, volume is just fine), and really comfy seats - some rocking - some double. I wish I could enjoy the theater. They always over butter the popcorn, have the volume too low, and never play good films. To start, I went to see the movie Finding Dory. I was discombobulated when I found a nice helping of manure incrusted in my loafer. Clean your facility, and make sure little tally wackers wipe their feet. read more

I'm a fan because I support our local businesses, unless you have done me wrong in some way. Redwood theater is our small town, local theater. I understand that it is disappointing to people from a larger area when you compare it to a bigger city theater, but it is a great small town theater, not to mention all we have. They do try, they always hire young kids to help them gain work experience, they always try to offer the most recent movies, but they only have 2 theaters, so they cannot offer them all. They have $2 movies whenever it's a no school day (The kids AND parents love this as an inexpensive way to spend a no school day. The also rent the theater out for parties. We had a birthday here and it was a great value! We invited tons of kids and they got popcorn & a drink, we handed out candies and brought cupcakes for after the movie. They made my child feel like a star! Put his name on the Marquee, gave him a special birthday present and a Redwood Theater t-shirt and cleaned up for us! They recently upgraded to digital and their price went up, but not a lot, and they are still cheaper for admission and snacks than the closest theater to us. I am glad we have a theater in our small town, and hope they only continue to grow! :D read more

Redwood Theater is one of the highlights of Brookings. Large main theater (the 2nd one is tiny...more like a screening room). Clean, comfy seats, good sound, well run, reasonably priced. Great popcorn with real butter. Seldom crowded. Movies like they used to be! read more

It's now fall of 2012 and we STILL CAN"T HEAR THE MOVIES!!! If someone coughs, whispers, or moves their candy wrappers you will miss some of the audio......Why hasn't this changed since the very first review was written you might ask yourself? Because they don't have to fix it. The owners know the residents and tourists will keep coming back since it's the only theater around the entire area. I've seen 2 films here in a total of 3 1/2 years of living in this area, and the poor sound quality has NOT improved a bit. We are investing in a home theater system for this exact reason. Do yourself a favor and wait for the rentals since there's a good chance you'll miss some of the audio. If you aren't there extra early you may end up sitting in one of their folding metal chairs in the back LOL! read more

Small and nice little, little movie theater....but, as usual with Brookings, there is no parking...this town was poooooorly planned....no where to park, hard to slow down and peek down the side streets to see if there's a space....who's in charge of town planning? I would go often, but it's not worth the trouble to get a place to park and then hike to the theater...so, I don't even bother....see movies out of town. read more

having recently moved from the s.f. bay area, it had been a long while since we'd been in an old time theater. we watched 'martian.' the seats were comfortable, it wasn't crowded, and i thought everything was fine. however, hubby commented about the non-state-of-the-art audio and video. but then he tasted his popcorn...and found something to really complain about. we arrived 30 min before the first showing, promptly ordered our popcorn, which had obviously been made much earlier in the day. read more

Love this theater. The place is so clean especially the bathrooms. They do have Dolby Digital sound as advertises. The popcorn is the best. Very fresh and they use real butter unlike most theaters that use flavored oil. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The prices are very reasonable. Two people can go to movies, get popcorn and soda for under $20.00. Great date night that won't break the bank. read more
