The food was fine, not the most tender ribs I've had but they had a nice flavor. The catfish was good and the sauce was good. The pork belly beans, while very sweet, were also good. Partner stated his chicken was good and his sausage was good, he got the collard greens and said they tasted fine. Collard greens are hard to cook and not everyone's favorite. They had an alright taste to me. The sauces were great, we ended up buying two bottles, one of the pablano and the Michigan cherry to take back home. The waitress couldn't find lids for the bottles but they did their best, I assume a lot of people don't buy the sauce ( possibly because it's 10usd a bottle ). Service was alright; there were long periods of time with no service, no one was in there aside from other table as it was around 12pm. It wasn't an issue really, I'm just used to more attentive waiters. The place was quiet and clean and everything was presented well, no complaints on that. As for coming back, probably the next time we're up there, hopefully by then Greektown will have a street again. read more

This brisket tasted good but it was kinda dry. Definitely needs sauce to eat it. That was kind of my only complaint. The smoked chicken was amazing. The pulled pork was amazing. Not bad, but also not great...I like the fact that they offer a wide variety of meats but I didn't like the fact that they only offered combos with one side. Most people want multiple sides with a dinner. They were also pretty pricey for the serving size you get. I liked that they offer multiple BBQ sauces too. We had a large party and I understand those can be annoying and a lot of work but our waitress could've been a lot friendlier. If you're going to serve a large group, please do so with a smile and a positive attitude...Also, I have to note that I'm a big fan of candied yams but these were too sweet. I didn't think I've ever say that. I'm glad that I tried it out but my guess is I'll visit other places before returning there. read more

Start off by saying some of the best Brisket I have had in a while. Very moist tender and just the right amount of fat on this sandwich. The batender she said this was a very good choice and she was telling the truth. It came with the michigan chery sauce. It was ok but i like a bit of spice in my BBQ so i added the Redsmoke hot and it was a perfect combo. Also had a sweet tea to drink which was perfect. Hard to find good sweet tea these days. Gave this place 2 tries once for delivery and again for dine in both experiences the food was terrible. The jerk wings are burnt with no flavor. The brisket is dry and taste like wood. Came here for dinner, and this place was recommended to us. We had the fried pickles as an appetizer. We expected it to be crunchy, but the batter was so thin it was soggy instead. I mixed the memphis and redsmoke hot and it was very tasty, sweet and spicy. I got a combo of 3 meats(brisket, pulled pork and sausage), my partner had the ribs with pulled pork. The brisket was really dry. We ordered a mix of cuts with fat and lean pieces. The ones with fat were just straight up fat that were not edible. The lean pieces were dry and hard, like rubber. The pulled pork had a gamey taste to it. The sausage had really good flavor, but it was so dry and the casing was so rubbery as well. The ribs also had good flavor, but was very dry. All the meats came cold. I expected them to be freshly cut per order, but it seemed like they were pre cut beforehand. The bread that came with it was also cold and hard, the cornbread was not good either. The coleslaw tasted good and fresh. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating...but aside from the coleslaw and the sauces, this place was definitely not worth it. For the food to be this terrible, I don't understand the mandatory 15% gratuity. I say this with confusion, as I like to tip 20% and above during dinner hours... all in all, I will not be visiting here again. read more

I love smoked beef brisket, however I feel as though this is something lacking big time in detroit specifically. Outside of the city we have great smoked brisket options and within the city we have amazing bbq, pork ribs, pulled pork even chicken and smoked sausage. I have looked at this place a few times and never ended up going. However today I was parked down the street after a client and it was dinner time and decided to pop in and pick up some food. I called and was unable to get through, when I walked in someone was on the line taking an order. Maybe they only have one line? Anyway, I proceeded to order at the bar. Nice looking place clean, polite staff. The prices seem on par for what you're getting. I ordered the brisket platter lean with Mac and cheese which comes on Texas bread and with a jalapeño corn muffin. I was unsure what sauce to get as I don't like extremely spicy. The bartender guided me and I did get three of the four that they had to offer but I'm unsure which is which one of them was really good. I came home to open my carry out to find a decent portion of brisket , trimmed lean as requested. And still warm! I first tasted the brisket without any sauce while I ordered lean the brisket it should not be dry especially if eating fresh . I did find the brisket to be on the dryer side as well as tougher and not melt in your mouth. Though not awful, however I'd probably not order from here again as it didn't meet the flavor and texture I was looking for. It does have a nice flavor of smoke and a nice pink edge as well. The portion was great for a platter for one with about 6 large slices of brisket folded up over the bread and a large corn muffin. I ordered a side of Mac and cheese which was very cheesy and had a nice crunch crust rolled in. I did also find the Mac and cheese lacking some flavor, however the bites with the crust were delicious. I ended up adding a little salt and pepper and that helped. The corn muffin also on the dryer side, was unable to cut clean because it crumbled. I found it to be very sweet especially on top and didn't really pick up on any flavor from the jalapeño, some salted butter may have helped. I will add the wait time was about 10-12 minutes as estimated and the place while big was decently filled for an early week day. (6pm) the bar had a few people dining and drinking and a couple larger groups. Looked like a conference from the hotel was there as well as a few people at the high tops. Overall not awful, however would not return for brisket. Though maybe for wings or something else if I was in the neighborhood. This meal total with a $4 tip came out to $27 which isn't too bad. read more

(Read to the end) Im reviewing as a culinary-trained/college educated hospitality veteran/foodie, Visited 1/4/25 @ 7pm to a fairly dead restaurant with only 6 tables seated for a Saturday Night (flag). Entrance area decor and layout nicely done, which sadly graduates DOWNWARD as you make your way past the bar into an uninspiring, lackluster "dining hall" vibe in the rear with nothing on the walls and ZERO EFFORT of any decor...I do mean ZERO! Staff notably kind but more occupied with congregating amongst themselves at the end of the bar in chat (some seated), as we stood at hostess stand waiting to be seated (sign posted) and congregation at bar-end continued as my water ran dry throughout the meal service. Timing from ordering to the appearance of our paper coated tin plate meal was quick, as one might expect with so few customers...still shocked for a Saturday Night. Notably, waitress was kind but failed to offer any suggestive selling offers/recommendations. FOOD: STAR OF THE SHOW were the four sauces on the table, clearly marked and each strongly flavorful in its own individual way... from sweet to vinegar based medium to spicy hot (that stayed with you and would satisfy the need of any heat lover...all excellent. Plates photographed exceptionally well, but then SURPRISINGLY and SHOCKINGLY FELL TOTALLY FLAT ON FLAVOR ON ITS FACE for a BBQ place. While its the only BBQ restaurant I ever walked into without a hint of the aroma of smoke from the Bbq (flag), such also was lacking in the food. Barely a scent or taste of any smoke on the brisket nor the Ultimate burger ordered. The brisket was medium dry, and near FLAVORLESS...truly flavorless albeit a hint of bbq which, alongside its perfect slices suggested a mechanical deli slicer (not by hand as in most places as one would imagine), suggested a bagged brisket brought in from their wholesaler presliced in a sealed package heated in a waterbath. . It did cause me to be perplexed, as it totally fell short of my expectations of any bbq place, ESPECIALLY one touting "SMOKE" in its namesake. So very sad, especially since we ordered the "fatty brisket" as recommended by our waitress. We all know brisket is the true test of any bbq establishment as well! Thankfully, yet still sadly, the sauce was able to try and rectify what the meat lacked in authentic smoke flavor and seasoning too! Coleslaw/fries were great/excellent....while my chips were shattered as if coming from the bottom of the bbq kettle chip bag, yet notably with more flavor than any meat at our table. Sorry, but true...comparingly, even Cedar Point Amusement Park's "Back Beat BBQ" could offer Redsmoke guidance on flavorful BBQ. While Redsmoke nails the sauce, the actual meat fails. WARNING: This establishments "15% GRATUITY AUTOMATICALLY ADDED TO ALL DINE-IN PURCHASES" rule printed as tiny as possible at the bottom of the menu IS UTTERLY RIDICULOUS FOR A METAL PIE PAN SERVICE BBQ JOINT! My sister had her Day-After-Wedding brunch here today! The staff provided really attentive service. I was surprised there weren't more patrons on a Saturday at 11! The bbq is fantastic. While walking through downtown, I wanted to go somewhere to watch the games, while grab a bite to eat. And, since this place wasn't super busy, I went to check it out. The service was pretty good here, quick, fast and efficient. The food was pretty good as well. The miss for me was their Chili, unfortunately. Which I'm a huge fan of Chili, so that was disappointing. It was hot, called and although the tri-tip in there tried to help, it wasn't enough to save that one for me. But, their Rueben on the other hand was pretty bomb!! I thought it might be too jerky, but, this definitely proved to me they know their BBQ well and their meats are cooked and smoked to perfection. The fresh chips were a nice addition to the meal. And, a scoop of their coleslaw was pretty amazing as well. Which, also is either a hit or a miss for me. There were only a few other parties there on a Tuesday evening so our group got a lot of attention from servers. The wings came out hot crispy. The cripsy wings are plain. Slat and pepper and fried. The jerk wings arent too spicy and pretty good. Not authentic jerk but jerk wings never are lol doesnt matter because it taste good. I had cornbread and coleslaw as my sides. Both were really tasty. Cornbread was of the crumbly texture so make sure you have a beer or cocktail to wet your palate. I thought it would be like a pulled chicken situation but it was a thigh and when I pulled the meat off the bone, there were veins and funky looking things that I personally don't like to eat. My friend said her ribs were decent. We didn't care too much for the sauce choices. The macaroni and cheese and sweet potato fries were the highlights. The macaroni and cheese was creamy and delicious. The service was good. This review is two fold: food and service. FOOD: I went with my standard pulled pork sammi so I can compare to other BBQ joints. This sammi was delicious; the meat was cooked perfectly and had an abundance of flavor. Red Smoke offers four sauce flavors from sweet to spicy. I found that mixing them all was a great combo! The pulled pork sandwich was excellent with no issues. SERVICE: So I came on a Saturday afternoon and I instantly noticed everyone just standing around...which was a bit odd. Then there was no music or anything in the restaurant, which was even more odd as it was awkwardly quiet. With only a few patrons in the establishment, it took quite a while to even get menus....we considered simply leaving...but I was committed to trying the pulled pork. Once we ordered, we waiting much longer than anticipated; I mean, we only ordered one little sandwich and there were less than 4-5 lunch parties in the place. In the end, food was excellent, but the service was below sub-par....not sure if I'll find time to venture back in, but hopefully it was some sort of fluke day. read more

We walked past but the smell of smoked meat, wafting from the open door at Red Smoke, stopped us in our tracks. We had to eat here. We were looking for a quick bite and happy to find they weren't busy. Small place but look up when you walk in - there is more seating upstairs. Fun decor, with logs of wood framing the kitchen. Nice bar area just as you walk in. Large TVs so you don't miss a play but the restroom is downstairs. There was no other option. If there is an elevator, I didn't see it. It was 6pm on a Monday. Most places were pretty dead but RS filled up quickly, after we were seated. I ordered a $6 glass of the House Chardonnay (which was a healthy pour) and was content, but after my husband pointed out the catfish, I had to try it. Nice size dish of catfish bites, that comes with a side of spicy dipping sauce. The bites were maybe a little overcooked but the breading is what makes the fish. Cornmeal and nicely spiced, I would surely order this again. The BBQ sauce selection on the table went well with the catfish too. Memphis Mudd was choice for my hub's pulled pork but Red Smoke sauce was spicy and a perfect replacement for hot sauce with the catfish. Hubs ordered a side of mac n cheese that is extra when ordering just a sandwich. Get it! It's worth it. Their baked mac n cheese is the best I have had in a long time. Oregano oil in the bread crumbs? Sharp cheddar and pecorino? What ever it is, it will keep up talking about it and coming back for more. The three large tables that filled the first floor, along side us, proved that the place can get loud. So this is not somewhere to go if you cannot stand loud and distracting noises. (little kid had a ping pong ball and kept dropping it on the table top) Sounds bounce off the wood and metal. Our waitress was very sweet and quick but when she'd disappear, she'd disappear. We had to ask a gentleman that visited our table, for the check. In and out in under and hour (we hurried to get our orders in before the large tables). Food was fast but very fresh. Excellent pork, even without the BBQ sauce. Good prices too. Two glasses of wine, catfish, pulled pork sandwich, premium side and a soda came to $40. Hit this place next time you are downtown.
