So instead of refunding my one dollar- not really that big a deal but a pain in the butt- they told me they're not "reliable" for it and said they would call someone if there was no number on the machine. there was no number on the machine so I went back inside and the girl said she would call them in a minute after she finished doing whatever it was she was doing and proceeded to count down a cash drawer and say sorry you're having a bad day. Not until now is what I told her as I waited some more. By now I'm getting a little perturbed and asked the name of the place as I get out my iPhone to report this on yelp. Suddenly, one of the other ladies hands me a dollar refund and says she'll deal with it later. No sign on the non-working 1$ machine for two weeks??? Makes you wonder about this place. I got my usual flight of 4 beers which consisted of a DIPA, hazy IPA, Dunkel and Kristalweizen. All were solid with the DIPA being my favorite. For lunch I got a chef's salad. Yes, I was made fun of relentlessly by my fellow fat boys, but I needed something semi healthy before a 3-day weekend of debauchery. I was certainly jealous when I saw their burgers and wings come out. The place is large, lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The tap list was also plentiful, and the food menu was perfect for a brewery. ETX was a solid start to our trip.

I had the distinct pleasure of visiting a little jewel of a winery in West Texas today...Valle…read moredella Pace!!! I arrived hungry and they offered me 5 different options of Italian style pizza in keeping with their Italian style wines. It was larger than a flatbread and smaller than a typical Napolitano pie and it was rectangular versus circular and I polished the whole thing off while tasting through 4 of their delightful and unique wines. I started with the owner's suggestion of Blondie, their Blanc du Noir. What you immediately notice is the balance of acidity and fruit in this very affordable wine, as are all of their wines. I then tasted their Albariño, a bottle I'm taking home on the plane back to the Napa Valley. Next the owner's Son, Josh, suggested the RAM Shiraz which reminded me a bit of a California Pinot due to the color but wasn't as dry or fruit forward as Pinots often are. I finished with their Cabernet Sauvigon -Whiskey Barrel. Talk about a Cab you never tasted before. There was a hint of Whiskey on the nose and more than a hint of Whiskey on the palate...the barrel definitely infused its personality into the wine. Finally I had to have their Cheescake and as you can see in the pic it was drizzled in chocolate. That's Dr Don, the Owner posing with dessert. Their wines are average at best, but you have to give them an "A" for effort. If you're in the area, I'd suggest stopping by just to get a flavor of wine from this part of Texas. However, I wouldn't make a special trip because you'll be disappointed. I suggest trying their reds over their whites.
